<DIV>i was in a group in Runnyeye cit. last night.  We got to the butcher and droped him rather easily.  We looted from his chest the 2 handed sword, Gorehorn blade of butchery.  a 2 handed legendary sword.  adds to str, int and wisdom.after the roll (which i got the lowest on) the person who won it asked if there was anyone that needed it.  when i stated I could use the sword, since i needed a better 2 hander for solo work, the iskar (think he was the healer) proptly stated that 'paladins dont use 2h swords' ..which brought out a chuckle from the rest of the group.  after the run was over, i checked the broker and found the persons name, beside the very same sword.....</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>i have just come back from a break playing this game.  when i left..noone would think twice if a paladin asked for a 2h sword from a boss loot (especially in this case, since there were no other fighters in the group who could use it).  hell, our paladin quest reward WAS A 2 HANDED SWORD!</DIV> <DIV>I come back from quitting WOW over crap exactly like this, now i find out this flawed, self serving loot 'distribution' ethic at play here.</DIV> <DIV>has anyone else encountered this kind of sheer stupidity on their groups part?</DIV>

i do and if your tanking you should have a shield not a two hander. a pallys strength in solo is the fact we can take a beating. i solo all the time and i never have a two hander i only use a two haNDER if im on a raid and not tanking.but remember just lose aggro for awhile and let them die. or do what i did last time it happened i was in an instance zone with the lockout timer engaged. i told them that if i did not get what i should have a pally master spell very rare i would leave.i counted from 10 and when i got to 2 the trade window opened. i got the master told them all that lootwhoring is wrong enagaged the next named and zoned out <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

<P>In my experience, situations like these are the exception to the rule, not the standard. More often than not, Need before Greed is taken seriously amongst the players, and strongly discouraged. I wouldn't let a random jerk get to you</P> <P>Although you will find, as you advance in levels (I take it that you are somewhere in your 30's, due to your being in RE) that your 2-hander becomes less and less important as the xp gain from soloing pitters off. By the time you hit 50, soloing is all but a lost cause. You will need to be getting in groups to gain any sort of decent xp, and that means being a tank, and that means utilizing a shield to maximize your mitigation.</P>

I am actually doing better soloing than I am grouping because of [Removed for Content] not knowing how to play and trying to tell everyone else how to play.

I group tank with a 2h, it just depends on your setup....with 2 healers there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to tank with a 2h.  With better gear you can do it with 1 healer, or none in some instances, but in a normal XP group of 2 healers you can 2h tank.<div></div>

personally, the only time I ever use a 2h is when my symbol and 1h are both broken. I went down the INT line for the dps, and so I use the symbol in 2h and I've been able to pump some pretty nice numbers cause of it...like Phov said, if you've got 2 healers in a group theres no reason really to use a shield/1h but the fact remains that in soloing you're technically supposed to run with a 1h and a sheld unless the mob ur going on is easy or easily warded from attacks

<DIV>There is no "right" way to play your paladin.  I laugh when i see some people post that say that you are not playing right unless you have a sword and shield.  Maybe that is all you want to play your paladin as but there is numerous gear setups that can make apaladin effective.  Saturday night a fellow guildee of mine won:   aITEM -1824581657 1598228238:Rak'leklo, Runeblade of the Doomflight/a in the Labs run and he is doing great DPS and able to tank fine with his mit gear on.  Myself, i am a adamantine doomhammer and doomsworn shield guy, but i recently went thru the infiltrating the sanctum questline and picked up the aITEM -323604427 -1223572989:Spiritise Censer/a which is pretty fun to use.  I have modified my hotbars so i have a link to my shield and a link to the censer and every 3 minutes swap quickly to use the censer.   From what i can tell on testing it can crit just like a spell and the crit increases the power tap to around 340 power from the mob and around 260 power to me.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I still break out the 2 handers, especially when soloing or being in a backup/utility role, i switch between the aITEM 1072365589 -1265664632:Maul of the Warden's Fist/a , aITEM -2087308974 -438778436<img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />oomwing Dragon Katana/a , aITEM 639774158 445061802:Formed Wurmslayer/a (havent completed the heritage yet).  There are others i use including the godking weapon in halbard mode, but i like to stick to hammer/great hammer to use the hammer ground AOE stun.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Another friend likes to go the Axe route on weapons and max out his str aa line.  He uses aITEM 3275271195 1742887316:Ascendant/a when tanking, aITEM -1556817848 -560489460:Frostwrath/a when utility/ assisting, and when he doesnt care about getting hit he uses aITEM -1006696633 2080869909:The Helmsplitter/a .</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Just play the way you feel best in the game and make sure your gear/spells are upgraded.  We have 4 paladins in our guild, and i would be willing to bet that none of the are similar on playing styles.  Does that make them subpar, with a resound NO to that question.</DIV>

<DIV>Of course paladins use 2h swords. This is clearly an NBG issue and you should settle it with the party involved. I have found that what sometimes works is if the other party is unrelenting in his greed, to advise other players on your server of said person (not on the eq2 boards, that is against the posting policies). That not only warns other players that said person is not willing to roll NBG but often gets the other party to yield to NBG (most ppl eventually realize it is in their best interests to play fair).</DIV>

<P>I don't get PUGs very often but when I do I am usually surprised by their courtesy when it comes to NBG. I don't know if I am just lucky or what but twice recently I've gotten nice Legendary items that dropped because the group thought it would go best on a Paladin. I extend the same courtesy, refusing items that are really not an upgrade to me.</P> <P>But if someone is a jerk about NBG just vote with your feet. Get to know people on your server and try to group with them as much as possible.</P>

There's awlays idiots.I was in a 4 man group in SoS recently, me another pally, necro and some healer. Necro 68 master drops, and the other pally rolls for it because he had a necro alt. Luckily the necro won. We reformed to a 3 man group and left the greedy little expletive to fend for himself. Reputation travels fast <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

Personally i feel being the main tank in a group without a shield is just WRONG by like EVERY stretch. as a Pally a big part of your avoidance and thus the avoidance of being dealt damage, is with your shield, second, we only get so many taunts, and again, one of our taunts requires the use of a shield to use. so without a shield you make the healers job more difficult, and conversly use more of the healers power to keep you up. In many situations this isnt a problem, but in those tough "we may get wiped here" situations, it makes the difference.HOWEVER, that said, having a 2 hander for Off tanking is a HUGE benefit, and I carry one just for that. However if youre a Main tank, you should be using your shield, pallys already have a tougher time holding aggro as it is( compared to a Guard and even Zerker), giving up one of your taunts and losing about 25% of your mitigation of damage, isnt what I would be doing.<div></div>

<P>How many raid paladins out there don't have at least 4-5 fabled 2h weapons? It's a big part of what many of us do in the end game. I know I personally have 6 fabled 2h weapons. Crushing, piercing, and slashing all covered.</P> <P>Some idiot saying that paladins don't use a 2h has never been in a raiding guild. How can someone say that a paladin can't use a certain item when it clearly states on the weapon itself what classes can use it.</P>

The best 1h Axe in the game is the Planar Axe of Destruction from the 3 Princes....the Shadow Axe is decent, but not near the PAoD in terms of Dps.<div></div>

I use a 2h when soloing for the added DPS and sword and board the rest of the time.

<P>I also use a 2h all the time while soloing, only switching to 1h and shield while tanking in a group. the added dps benefit from using 2h's compared to 1h's (disclaimer- in most situations) more than makes up for loss of mitigation. Quicker kills, quicker experiemce while soloing</P> <P>Jhalen Wright 70 Paladin - Unrest</P> <P>Maleck Ariakas 68 Shadowknight - Unrest</P><p>Message Edited by Maleck on <span class=date_text>10-23-2006</span> <span class=time_text>10:14 PM</span>

Yeah soloing I normally use Prides Edge (raid dropped from Gnome in DT) or the lifetap 2h from Labs when I am going against higher level heroics or named....I combine that with Harla Dar's Breastplate for the heal proc, and normally do very well.  Granted these are raid dropped, but Harla and the Doomblade should be pretty easy to get with a pickup raid, if someone knows what they are doing.<div></div>

<DIV>More on the NBG...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>With my main I group with a set of friends... we've got our set of rules for loot and it works well.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>That said... with my alts I have noticed the same... NBG is not always the norm.  If you're in a group of people you don't know it's wise to clarify the rules from the get go so it's understood.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>For me: Lotto for it... if someone can use it then give it to them... pretty simple.  It's also wise to establish the "alt" clause... which for me is "alts" don't count... period.  I have no idea whether you have X toon as an alt and I know there are people out there who take advantage of people's generousity and I'll see the item up for sale on the broker at the end of the night.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Whatever the rules are... if they are clarified at the get go then people... including myself... have no right to get upset :smileyvery-happy:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As a side note: What are other people's thoughts on alts when it comes to loot??</DIV>
