<DIV>My Paladin is level 30, and I find myself rarely using this skill because of the pathetic damage and excessively long recast timer... it is the only dot in the game that I have seen that works the way it does.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>All the classes I have have at least one dot, and all of those dots have recast timers that refresh by the time the duration of the dot is over, allowing you to refresh the dot without having to wait 40 seconds...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So, does this skill and its line ever get worth using?</DIV>

According to my parser and my own calculations, in the right conditions the oath strike line does pretty decent damage for a CA.  The main problem with it, indeed with all DOTs, is that mobs often die before it finishes ticking.  In the end it doesn't really stand out like it did pre LU-13, but it's not bad per se, just average.  <div></div>

Few points supporting Oath Strike - It's a good one to cast stright after your AoE taunt (and divine debuff), because of the DoT aspect of it you cna almost think of it as a taunt. With your debuff it is about 25% damange more - You're not relaly seeing the true damage of oath strike indeed any of your spell like abilities as by in large your INT will be quite low... if this was capped it woudl certinaly be a large improvement (100 int at lvl 70 is about 13.5% damage increase, unsure about lower levels) - Between increasing your INT and debuffing the mob you can easily double its damage - and finally... I like to cast this DoT when the mob reaches critical hit points (1, 2 or 3 depending on mob) and switch to the next target allowing your DoT (and others if grouped) to finish the mob off and you're already staring taunting your next... this allows no downtime betwene mobs and a very handy trick Compared to Pre LU13 yeah it is a bit of a let down even though it now costs half the power and does more damage per power points its recast lets it down. A true paladin skill... long drawn out damage that keeps coming... and coming... and coming... and coming... <div></div>

<DIV>my beef is taht oath strike pre-LU 13 was good-it put the paladin on the map in both tanking and dpsing-but the fact of it is that while now the oath strike line is a DoT--it ticks every 4 seconds which sucks-and it lasts for only 20sec so at the lv 70 oath strike its at about 150-250 a tick-which in retrospect is only approx 1000 dmg over the course of 20 secs-easily overdone by just auto attacking/using other spells/CAs in that matter of time</DIV> <DIV>Nuff said</DIV>

<DIV>I'm just saying that the recast on Oath Strike should be in line with every other dot in the game... you should be able to use it again as soon as it stops ticking, that way you can keep is up as long as you want. (Hell, even the bruiser dot works like this)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Also, this spell should be a useful spell to those of us who don't raid and there for are not able to to max our INT... max stats should be a bonus, not a needed thing to do respectable dps.</DIV>

I think I'd sum up the issue with Oath Strike, it's upgrades, and the SK equivalents by saying it's an example of how SOE decides to make a change.  Rather than finding a balanced medium, the devs seem to just go to the opposite extreme, and, if we're lucky eventually work back to a happy medium.<div></div>
