Well after a year and a half off I started playing around on EQ2 again. Now the first thing that strikes me is the difficulty I have been having with mobs. Have all mobs gotten buffed or have paladins been nurffed? I am currently a lvl 33 Dwarf pally /34 Armourer and I'm kinda lost on where to go or what to do. How have things changed since I have been away? Is there a known line of lvl/gear progression I could follow? I feel like a utter n00b here and any help would be very much appreciated. The last time I played splitpaw was all the rave....now where to?

Message Edited by Alinon79 on 09-12-2006 02:04 PM

Ok I'll read the updates and try to figure things out. Now another question...is there a good Pally board out there? I was part of Paladins of Norrath and it was a good EQ1/EQ2 Pally resource. Where have all the good current, up to date resource sites gone? ohh and another quick question. What is this respec thing I keep hearing about?
Message Edited by Alinon79 on 09-13-2006 08:58 AM

Yeah, no point spending 24AAs when you can just hit 'c'

if you get feared your already fighting, so i hope your not trying to pull again already engaged in an epic contest...

plus if your tanking, i hope your not tanking in a wide open area.. i usually back in a corner and tank there, but i dont main tank in raids ,i'm main assist so that makes a difference..

I've been feared one time ever, deep in Labs, and i was crouched and in a corner so i didnt go anywhere.. i would rather have my brimstone critting at 1400 per target or better, and my heals critting every other time if not more.. and my ca's also..

Have all mobs gotten buffed or have paladins been nurffed? I am currently a lvl 33 Dwarf pally /34 Armourer and I'm kinda lost on where to go or what to do.

Yes the fighting styles have changed drastically, so has the way gear conned to you as a player. You used to have to get new gear every 3 lvls or so way back in the day, but now you can get gear (generally) at lvls 20, 30, 40, 50 that will get you thru most if not all of your next 10 levels. As some of the other posters have already stated, the game has become very very gear oriented.

Also, Paladins used to be a much better soloing class before LU13 since they could actually DPS pretty good back then...now we are the worst of all the fighter, scouts, and mages DPS wise...a good fury could give a paladin a good run for their money DPS wise. What does this mean, it means we suck at soloing pretty much, even with good gear. I have nearly all fabled armor, weapons, and jewerly and it takes me still forever to kill something...and even then it sucks a ton of power from me. I would strongly recommend you level your armorer to lvl 39 at least and craft yourself all legendary feysteel armor to get your pally to lvl 40. Thats one big thing that will help you survive soloing. Another thing is player crafted imbued weapons...for a paladin they can be a life saver because its extra much needed DPS that doesn't cost you any power to use.

Is there a known line of lvl/gear progression I could follow?

Yes, if you are a quest hound there are some items you could go for, but honestly with the advent of player crafted imbued items....all the heritage reward quest items are pretty much worthless when compared to them. There are a lot of zones that drop some gear which would be useful to you...theres a nice chest that drops in Ruins of Varsoon from one of the enraged skelly encounters (lvl 32 required) and another nice chest that drops in Runnyeye (lvl 39 required) from the mess sergeant named I believe. Quest wise theres no gear really worth your time until you get close to lvl 60 and you can finally start working on the clayedmore quest line which rewards players with some awesome tanking gear rewards. Basically stick with player crafted and learn the zones where items can and can't drop.

How have things changed since I have been away?

Basically before LU 13 the paladin was the worst tank in the game...kinda laughable really. A paladin couldn't hold aggro against anyone even if they wanted to. They had nice DPS capabilities and while not the best had good group utilities with some of their buffs. Since the LU 13 change we have become more defensively oriented with better heals and much better aggro control techniques. A DPS class can still pull aggro on mobs from a paladin...but a skilled paladin now has all the tools they need to maintain aggro in a fight even against determined DPSers. Spell quality and level now also play a more important role then before...with mobs resisting spells more often. Also a big change is something called spell crits...this can increase the damage done by you or a mob on an attack or spell signifigantly.

Lastly, int wasn't a huge factor before LU 13 but since then it factors into how much damage half your spells do. Now crusaders (like bards) must look for gear that balances ALL stats versus typical warriors that can ignore int and go straight for STR.

The last time I played splitpaw was all the rave....now where to?

Well, obviously 2 expansion packs came out since you left...so those have gotten a lot of popularity. Also they reworked a ton of zones to make it more interesting and cool to fight there (lots more masters drop from named in those zones). Level up and explore a little.
