<DIV>I currently have a lvl 32 monk, and I love the fact that I can solo ^^^ names 4-6 lvls below me. One thing I really hate is the trashy armor we wear(leather), it honestly looks like crap. So I decided to make a plate wearing alt. I made a SK and he's 13 now, great solo capabilities, but I hate FP. I was thinking whether I should stick out with my SK or make a pally alt, but I don't really know if they par the same with ^^^ names.</DIV> <DIV>I always thought SK's were the plate kings of soloing, but this morning I saw a lvl 31 pally soloing 26-28^^^ giants in TS. I mean sure my monk can take them np, but the pally was barely trying. Her power pool was about 65% after every fight. Her gear was decent, a few legendary pieces along with 1 fable, and the rest uncommon.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Would love to get some real answers by veteran pallys.</DIV> <DIV>Thx</DIV>

to sum up soloing: slow but safe. and find a dou partner from a dps class and you're taking down a river of evens np.<div></div>

<DIV>Yeah, I can solo well, if slower than a DPS'ing class. As far as heroic content - I personally prefer to fight the heroic groups of mobs... where you have 3-5 or so mobs in a single heroic encounter. Our aoe's work them over quite well, so you get better bang for the buck over hitting single heroic ^^^ mobs.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Anyway, to answer your question, I can solo green ^^^ mobs rather easily as long as I pay attention. Timing wards and stuns well go a loooong way in being able to do this. I have solo'd blue ^^^ mobs before, but they're far more difficult (for me) and I prefer going the safer route.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>To the suggestion above about duoing with a DPS class... I wholeheartedly agree. Actually, I duo'd every single group encounter in PoA with a monk (including named) while working through my claymore quest, so once you find a good partner you can really tear it up.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>~Sir Hawke Holyblayde, Hero of Maj'Dul</DIV>

With all Mastercrafted/Fabled gear and Master/Adept 3 spells I soloed Opalla (lvl 40^^^) at level 42 (had to use LoH). Soloed all of Foomby's quest at 47 yesterday, Chomper (37^^^) and Baz'rog (40^^^) didn't even look like they had a chance :p. Soloed Everling at level 45, Varsoon at level 44, most RoV named while they were still green. Granted, for named mobs some are weak, but gives you an idea.Note that I used defensive in most situations, and that's basically how we are able to solo such tough encounters - long and drawn out (incidentally I also have Master defensive stance). As other have said, duo we rock.

<DIV>How about compared to an SK and a monk? I would like to find as mich info as possible since I really don't have the time to lvl both classes.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>^ To the above poster: Very impressive</DIV>

<DIV>I agree with the previous posters, Pallys can solo really hard encounters, but only if you take it slow and carefully.</DIV> <DIV>I have no experience of a higher level monk, but have played an SK as well as a Pally and I don't think the SK's solo abilities are close to the Pallys, this may be down to my playstyle, as I found the Sk did better when trying for the quicker kill, rather than the longer approach that works with the pally.</DIV> <DIV>In a group situation I also found the SK was not as effective a tank. But, again, this may be down to my playstyle.</DIV>

I'm a shadowknight, and it does come down to playstyle and equipment. I know I can handle white ^^^'s, and some yellows. The slow approach doesn't work so well at the high end, because enemy damage scales quicker than wards and heals, so you won't be able to maintain steady heals, wards, stuns, and DPS throughout. For a shadowknight, the idea is to cycle stuns and generate as much burst DPS as possible to kill a foe quickly.Paladins do duo about as well as we do, though.<div></div>
<P>I've solo'd yellow ^^^ about 1 level above me as a paladin, aswell as I have as a SK. As the previous posters have said, paladins are great at fighting encounters slow and steady, using wards, stuns, def stance etc to minimize damage. As a Shadowknight, by debuffing the mobs, using 4 dots as well as life taps and reactive wards and offensive stance, I can take down a mob fast. Both work well in groups, but I seemed to find groups quicker with my Paladin. </P> <P>If you want to go all out and kill 'em quick style, go for the Shadowknight, if you prefer the longer but safer fights go the Paladin route. Again it's all on playstyle.</P> <P>Sir Jhalen Wright - 66 Paladin - Unrest</P> <P>Maleck Ariakas - 68 Shadowknight - Unrest</P>

I soloed all the way to 70 with no trouble at all. Stick to killing undead mobs if possible because we have great DPS against them and, naturally, they die much faster thus earning a lot more exp per hour!

The monk also can hold aggro very, very well against single target encounters. Their large avoidance numbers help them to get missed a lot of the time in melee combat. However, it's when the mobs connect that problems start. Due to their lower mitigation (leather armor), when the mob does connect, it tends to hit like a Mack truck. So, often times when a monk is tanking, they appear to take "spike" damage (miss, miss, miss, BAM, miss, BAM, BAM) and so they can be difficult to keep alive for some healers. Monks tank more effectively when backed up by healers that can ward, or have reactive heals on him/her. This helps to make the 'spike damage' less pronounced, and thus easier to predict appropriate heal patterns to keep them alive.</P> <P>Keep in mind, I don't actually play a monk - I'm just passing on what my monk friend passed to me after we tested out different group make-ups. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P> <P>Hope that helps,</P> <P>~Sir Hawke Holyblayde, Hero of Maj'Dul</P>

<P>Thx for all the replies guys. I decided to make both toons to see both sides. So far I have a 17 SK and a 13 paladin. They're both pretty fun to play and can solo pretty well.</P> <P> I really wish SOE would bring back the instant 70's on test server so I could really see how SK's par versus pally's.</P>
