View Full Version : Help with Armor

I have a question about Armor. I know I don't have the best set of gear, but they aren't bad either. But here lately I am getting owned by mobs. Level 52, and the healer in the group was having a hard time and had to chain heal me in clefts.

If you want to check out my char he is Quda on the butherblock server.

Does it matter which Tier the armor is as long as it matches or betters what is available? Example my chest piece is a little better in Mit than Pristine Cobalt Armor.

Any ideas as to why my tanking abilties have decreased?

Cobalt is a great starting point for level 52, especially if you got some before LU24 with the different stats and (iirc) better mitigation.

The level of the armor DOES matter. A level 40 peice of armor with 400 mitigation will not protect you as well as a level 50 peice of armor with 375 mitigation (just making up numbers, i'm at work lol). You have to look at your mitigation % by mousing over your mitigation number in your persona window to get a clear idea of what peice of armor is "better".

I don't remember what level the mobs are in Cleft, so I don't know if that has any bearing on it. I don't recall tanking there myself until 54, but I kinda blew through my levels so I can't really remember. I know Shimmering Citadel (do the access so you can get the mirror and port a whole group there) and Living Tombs is GREAT experience in lower 50s.

just get a full set of cobalt armor and throw away your other stuff and you should be fine

Thanks guys. The mobs in clefts are about 54-55 heroic ^^^.

I would like to get all cobalt gear, but the bank won't let me withdraw what is needed. On my sever they are going for 7pp for each item.

Now I know that the level does matter on the equipment that will help me out, I wish it wasn't that way.

Thanks again.

WOW don't buy them pre-made! Buy the cobalt clusters or go out and harvest them, and find an armorer to make you the peices. You should be able to find the clusters for 1-1.5p and an armorer that will do the combines for 15-20g a combine. At least thats about average on my server. Ask about getting a discount for a full set.

With a price of 7p, it SHOULD be the pre-nerf stuff anyway. Since it cannot be made ever again, it will most certainly be expensive.

After they change things some more and i saw a fellow guildee linking armor, i went right back to armoring and have to say the removal of subs changed my outlook on chainmail for the good... Old Subs crafting, i use to charge more on chainmail versus vanguard, being as it was at least 30% more timesink and costlier than vanguard. Now i find that i have alot of customers lost and confused to some degree on armor, with myself relearning the the benefits of the suits. EQ2IDB has helped when you want to link armor options for customers that are not sure what stats they want or just want to know the difference. If i had one wish now it would be to have the ability to imbue all 7 suit types of the chest and legs instead of only one plate and one chainmail type. I am not sure the prices on the OP's server but here on crushbone, cobalt and xegonite are priced quite nicely since the node changes...

I have a question on the other side of the Cobalt debate.First, let me detail my situation: I have a full set of pre-nerf (i.e. pre-LU#24) Cobalt. I'm currently level 59 and will probably hit 60 sometime next week. I mostly play as a single group MT or solo (the occasional pickup raid, but not enough to really matter, and not as MT).The stats on the T6 crafted Legendary armor sets were cited by Beghn as one of the reasons for the LU#24 mastercrafted 'adjustment' , so I know that what I have is pretty good. How long can I reasonably expect to wear it? Through most of the 60's? Mid-60s? Replace it ASAP? What is the general consensus (right, like there's going to be consensus on any topic here on the forums )?

The pre-LU24 cobalt armor is good into your low to mid 60's, I guess. It's mostly a matter of what all you want to take on. Raid mobs in T7 will chew through it, but it's sufficient for many of the 1 group instances.

I don't think you have to necessarily go out on a seek-and-destroy mission to get it upgraded, as there are a plethora of chances for legendary T7 armor from the 1 group instances that will get you upgraded fairly nicely.

~Sir Hawke Holyblayde, Hero of Maj'Dul

That'll get you all kinds of nice armor, and you'll level quickly as well. The stuff droppped is alot better what you have now, and its free. Just a thought, hope you have fun on the quests, I know I am.
I've started the Claymore series (half way through Burglars Afoot) ... probably won't be able to finish the whole series (my guild is tiny ... have trouble fielding even a full group, so a raid is just out of the question unless it's a pickup, and that's tough to do well. ) but still should be able to advance it enough to get some of the decent gear. It's good to know that there is decent T7 gear as quest rewards/drops in the single group heroic areas though. What other single group questlines / areas to you recommend for the low 60's? Any "must have" Pally pieces in the low 60s? You know, the sort of gear you don't mind camping and repeatedly killing the same named for weeks and weeks (and sometimes weeks ) just to get? Thanks again,

It's decent xp too, while there are mobs to kill. Respawn takes a little bit, so after each dragon kill you have a few minutes for afks for food/drink/bio.

Also the Curiass of Protection drops in a heroic instance - Blackscale Sepulchur. That instance is quite cake IMO as far as T7 heroic instances go, and is one of the best BPs in the game, even though it's legendary. (This is a point of frustration for many high end raiders, as it's thought that the fabled BPs should be far better in comparison). Bottom line on this BP is it doesn't add stats to str/sta/wis/int or agi, but gives hella AC, and resists to all magic types. (Read: Most excellant for tanking).

Don't forget to check out the Den of the Devourer a little bit later, for a shot at some really great rings, the dark and light chitin ones. dark ones give the stats, light ones give resists.

That should get you pretty nicely decked out all the way to 70 for any heroic group encounters. If you start raiding the T7 stuff, you'll of course want to upgrade to better equipment.

Hope that helps.

PS - If all of your group are about 60, some of these things might be hard to do yet. However, if you have a few people higher in level, it will go a long way in getting you through some of these places.

~Sir Hawke Holyblayde, Hero of Maj'Dul

Message Edited by Wulfborne on 07-18-2006 02:15 PM
