At two points along the way of a paladin's career we have the option of chosing to either increase our health pool by 5% or by increasing our health regen during combat by 5.What do you consider to be the best option and why? Once a choice has been made, is it possible to go back and change it? Thanks!

I am pretty sure I chose the plus to power regen both times. If I recall correctly, you could choose between both power and health options.

I thought it was +2.5% to total health or power, or +10 to health or power regen...

I have chosen power regen on all of my fighters after respeccing. I had initially chosen the bonus to total health, but found it did nto fit my playstyle. Rather than convince you to take the same route, I'll try to offer a reason to chose any of the four choices:

Total health - You pvp a lot and are melee focused. Along with maximizing your mitigations, you want to have the highest health pool possible to stay on your feet during fast pvp engagements where regen is not much of a factor.

Total power - You pvp a lot. You love using offensive spells, wards, and heals to confound your enemies who expect you to focus on melee when fighting them. Having that extra bit of power allows you to let loose that last killing spell or desperate heal to keep you on your feet longer than the other guy (or gal ). Once again, in quick pvp fights, regen has minmal impact.

Health regen - You're a tank through and through, and you love long grueling efforts like fighting underconned boss mobs and raiding situations. That extra bit of health regen per tick may not do much for you in a short fight, but, over time in a prolonged encounter, it takes some pressure off of your healers so they can be more economical with their power usage. This also helps you when you are soloing lower con heroics as these fights tend to drag out forever, and if you run out of power, this trickle of extra health regen can be the difference between victory and rez sickness.

Power regen - You love raiding and other long encounters. When tanking, this trickle of extra power sets you up for those important taunts at the end of the encounter that you may not have gotten in otherwise. Likewise, while off tanking/dpsing, those make-or break spells come a lot faster with extra power regen. Finally, during difficult solo encounters, having that extra bit of regen gives you some flexibility when the fight goes on longer than you intended.

In short, every choice has a strong point depending your play style. I never pvp, so the two regens are most attractive to me. Out of those, power regen was the most attractive since i prefer to offtank/dps in groups and go after tough solo challenges. Also, I am sure other people can point out different pros and cons to each choice - these are just how I see them.

Depending on how old your character is, you may have a 'respec' available. These are a one-time reset of all your class and racial traits.

Another point to consider when looking at health vs. power. As a paladin, if you have power, it can be converted into health (by healing) if necessary. Health doesn't convert so easily back into power.

I took health every time. Not power, and no regens. I primarily group, and raid occasionally. I MT a lot. Power hasn't been an issue for me and I have others to heal me. They need as many HP to work with as they can get.

if your an MT a lot you should be taking +2.5% health, if you just goof around a lot and dont do a lot of MTing, go for power regen.

The choice is actually 2.5% health, or 5 / tick health regen, and 2.5% power or 5/tick power regen... I belive? And you get the choice twice. So depending on the order you might be dealing with compound interest on the absolute health or power...

If you choose the power line, I would say go with the regen because power is harder to restore, and mana drain abilities can knock off your power pool no matter what size.... but if you regen, that power is renewable.

If you chose HP line, go with the absolute health total. The regen is inferior in fights lasting less than about 2 minutes... depending on the duration of a tick, which i forget. From 2-3 the difference is negligible either way. Only in long fights will the health regen be noticeably better, and it still won't save your from spike damage.

Between health and power, I would say health. Simply because 0 power = alive. 0 health = dead.

Hakanek

Message Edited by Hakanek on 05-27-2006 09:01 PM
