One of the reasons I enjoy playing a paladin is the various roles we play.

My question today, however, is limited and involves the lvl 70 paladin on a raid (assume he is not the MA).

What AAs would be best for doing the maximum dps?

I finally went with Str 4/4/8 and now Sta 4/3 and will fill out Sta to 4/4/8 and then move to Int. Is this the best path to do the maximum DPS for the raid (when I am not doing other stuff we paladins do).

Thanks and good hunting.

Justinious

lvl 70, Oasis Server

Alternate Eclipse

I went down STA and STR. But from talking to my fellow pallies on my server who raid (but not MT all the time), they said INT is the best line if you want to have high DPS in raids. Again, I am going with what I heard, not from my own experience. Hope that helps.

Probably STR instead of INT becuase about 1/3 of our total dps is from auto attack and that happens close to every second. We just don't have enough spells to really go with INT and do enough dps to be worth it.

One aspect to consider is resistability to AOE's. If you are able to resist them then you don' thave to back away in nasty fights and thus can utilize spells and auto attacks. (Presuming you are talking about off tanking)

I'm fully through on Stamina and almost through Wisdom. I've found that I can do some pretty good damage on auto attack with the right group. (Coercer in grp helps)

Wisdom lines also buffs grp attacks so total grp dps is higher.

If ya want to max dps then aye str/int. Despite the fact that some think we have a low number of spells..the int line still affects our procs, consecrate, etc. And I hate the wis line lol but thats just me.

As a DPS Raid Paladin the INT line would be my priority. Maxed you achieve 85% increase to spell crit, which is almost constantly. The increase through the STR is not as signifigant, so personally that would be my second priority.

As a raid paladin who has MTed, MAed, and just been there, sta/int is a awesome combo. Sta for the hp, melee crits, Hammer ground rules, love DA. Int for the Heal crits and spell crits. We DO have a HUGE amounts of spells at our disposal. Also, don't forget the thermal shocker, bone clasped girdle, any other items that adds procs to you, also any other class that adds a proc to you as well. you can seriously get a lot of procs going, spell crits also work on dmg shields. Any magical effect it will crit on. Also Heroic Opps, seriously, int is the BEST thing that ever happened to us. I've been max AAs for a long while now, i've tested out a lot of things. Str is interested if you have a real good two hander and wanna keep putting haste on yourself for auto attack. Thing is, we paladins don't do the most dmg from auto attack, we are a hybrid, and we do an INSANE amount of dps through our spells. Examine your combat abilities, the ones that say they do divine dmg, all of those are considered spells. Devout strike starts out melee, the dot effect is a spell. Seriously, I don't know why anyone once you have the taste of int, would go any other way.

At 4 points and spell crit it yields a nice 34% proc, at 4 points in heal crit it is 31% proc, and hammer ground is one of my most useful abilities from the stamina line. Will be doing more testing as i go thru the wisdom line but with the 3 rd rank down in wisdom increasing our skills, that will reduce fizzle rates and increase our chance at hitting yellow and orange mobs, so looking forward to that one. I wish i had a 100 points to spend sometimes...
For melee dps the str line is pretty cool. The constant haste is nice and the axe attack has become my favorite CA. I thought it looked weak at first, but it probably does more damage more effciently than any other spell or art we have, not including aes. The end of the line AA for str is also very nice. It's basically a flat 10% increase in spell/CA damage, with a 10% increase in power coast of course, but only if you choose to go all out. Keep in mind though it reduces the cast and recast times of everything you have, so you can use your more efficient spells more often and ignore the less efficient ones thus doing the same amount of damage, or healing, with less power. And the slightly shorter casting times will decrease the amount of dps you lose while casting and slightly reduce the probability of interrupt.

My choices:

Str 4/4/8 Haste Maxed Out (Even better if i could get my hands on a nice 2 hand axe)

Sta 4/5/8 Melee Crits Maxed Out and Hammer Ground is nice

Int 4/4/8 Spell Crits Maxed Out.

I feel for pure dps output this is the best route you could take, which is what the OP was asking about.

I would stress the INT spell crits as well, I have mine maxed. You throw on some nice caster cloth armor it maxes my INT out. With my INT maxed out in offensive stance my dps increases by 33%, add the INT AA spell crit I've seen some amazing number fly above my head 68% of the time:

Refusal: 1800-2450

Convicition (I think the name has changed... I can't remember what the T7 spell is called) AOE: 700-1000+ per target

Decree: 800-1000+ per target

Consecrate: 280-300+ per target
