I see so many Barb pallys and begin to wonder maybe I should have gone with more str/sta? It seems wis is useless to pallys except for resists so the dwarf isn't that great an option, but humans have even less str and wis than a dwarf. I went human because I love the idea of a noble human paladin...but I don't want to be [Removed for Content] later on. At lvl 41 I have a fabled helm, fabled gloves, all legendaries except for two pieces of jewlery, fabled 2h axe, and fabled 1hs yet still I see a lot of barb guards/zerks with a lot more hp than me. My fableds are all lvl 40 min lvl btw. Legendaries range from 33-40.

Play what you think is fun. Don't look at the other side of the fence all the time :smileyhappy:

MUCH better in hobbit homes!)It's not HP that matters - it's MIT for a tank. HP helps, but make sure that your equipment boosts MIT or has +crushing, +piercing, +slashing etc. bonuses. Also, you can get Hex Dolls to boost various stats... shop around and see if you can boost a stat or two using jewelry and hex dolls, and see how you perform. If it helps, use it, if not, look at other stats. I worry about MIT, then WIS (mana), then INT (crits).

Since I am a Barbarian I cant speak knowledgeably on the matter - but I believe that humans have the most balance in stats of any race - and since Paladins are really a balanced archetype - needing to draw from many stat pools - you may end up with an advantage that a few of us have not seen yet. It does tend to all even out as you age - but bringing a balanced race to a balanced class is definitely not a mistake - take advantage of it - and use equipment and accessories to balance what you feel are your racial deficincies.

Strikkeer Steelblade

70th Paladin

Ascension Officer

Lucan D'Lere

Message Edited by Obfw Striker on 04-28-2006 02:05 PM

As others have said, the choice is pretty much cosmetic. The stats really are cosmetic. By L70 you'll hit a few caps anyway, and have items with +20 or more to stats. The odd +5 or even +10 here and there isn't going to make any difference.Humans do get the +5 defence option, as do most 'tanking races', but again the importance of defence is less than it was, and there's other ways to raise this (e.g. +5 defence gloves).I am a human pally, but if I rerolled I'd probably try something less common for fun, maybe even a Ratonga It matters that little. But visually I like the human pally. Looks very good on a horse too (compared to a little squeaky rat on a tiny pony!).

I'm a gnome paladin... as stated, as you level, initial stats mean nothing... its all the gear!Racial traditions can be nice, I believe one of the gnomish ones is innate power regen. I'm a regen junky. One of the things I love about T7 is the amount of good dropped gear with Flowing Thought on it.Besides, what is sexier than a gnome wearing a sardine can and wielding a toothpick lance?

I am a human paladin and have *never* thought I should have been a different race. Once gear and aa's are tossed into the mix, race is just 'for looks'. I've seen some of my str/sta stats well above random ogre guardians I've come across in my travels... and I've seen gnomes have better stats than my own. It's all in what you want to play.~Sir Hawke Holyblayde, Paragon of Truth

I chose a troll paladin, and never regreted the choice. And I got a lot of funny looks in my early lvls hehe. Haven't seen any other troll paladins on befallen either. Str and power bonuses are cool but its true, all in how ye play.

Aamadex

Holy Defender of Trolldom

Speaking from the point of view of a High Elf paladin, Str is a total non-issue with me. I'm easily capping that stat and have actually found the small +Int bonuses help me more at higher levels because so little gear actually increases it.

Yea I've never ran out for a pickup group in Kos and get there and they said Oh no your only human. I've seen lvl 70 tanks get taken down the first 5 secs of a fight becasue the are still using ebon armor. If a barbarian has the exact same gear as you, same hex dolls, same AA's everything then yes he might have 5 more STR and STA than you. I've yet to see any class have the exact same gear than me at one time.

No worries Strider, i am a dwarf pallie that is wider than he is taller and definetly do not feel gimped in the least, play the race you like the looks of and everything fits into place. I like to keep a stock of bones and use the race eyes to change my guy at different times, one battle a ogre, another a troll, another a droag, another a barbarian. For me the whole dwarven armorer/paladin was a good roleplay and i went with it.

The only reason I chose my pally to be a barb was for roleplaying reason, otherwise i think i would have picked human for the looks. Like everyone keeps saying, racial stat differences dont make much of a difference later on so just play what you like the look of
