<DIV>I broke down and got an imbued cobalt great spear (2h) and an imbued cobalt spear (1h).   Both are very nice weapons.   I started with 45 piercing skill and have brought it up to about 211 over the past 2 days.   Piercing weapons work great on some mobs and not well at all on others.   Djinn are completely immune to piercing, at least the ones in the Shimmering Citadel.  Crushing works quite well on them.   So far, I really like using spears, both the 1h and 2h.    The stats on the 2h are very good.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have had one problem developing my piercing skill.   Today I mentored a level 22 in Stormhold, mainly to develop my piercing skill.   Unfortunately, it did not go up at all, not in 2 hours.   Apparently the skill reduction for mentoring is the reason.    I think this should be changed.   IMHO should be able to develop weak skills while mentoring.</DIV>

What I did was went into Harclave used my normal weapon to get to the arc then once I got the Spirit of Harclave I changed to my spear.  I only used heals and wards to let the fights last longer.  Most of the time the mobs were getting killed off by the DS you get but I would hit from time to time and after a while it started going up a bit faster. I currently have my skill maxed and when I level I rotate between my Prismatic LS, RGF, and Spear (I think DeathKnell is the name of it was a quest item)  In about 20 minutes from when I level I normally have all 3 skills maxed again. <div></div>

<DIV>I heard if we take your skill and divide it by 5 those are the lvl of mobs you need to be fighting to lvl it up ... is this true ?  so for instance i have lvl 30 piercing <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />  then id have to fight lvl 6 mobs ?  if not ill go into harclave and try that .. not to big on the mentoring IDEA ... thanks</DIV>

No, you can raise it on anything. Harclave's is very good for that. When mages got their weapon skills uncapped with the expansion, I spent some time in Harclave's raising my illusionist's crushing and piercing. One way to do it is buy a cheap, fast piercer from an NPC merchant, like in Qeynos Harbor. The faster swings will help, and the crappiness of the weapon means you'll kill them slower. If you don't want to do it in Harclave's, another option is to find heroic ^^^ mobs that are low level enough that they can't really hurt you, but high enough level that they have a lot of hitpoints. <div></div>

<DIV>When the patch first came out for us to use piercing, I bought the worst piercing weapon I could off broker.  Took off armor that had any damage procs, took off all damage buffs, and went afk for hours with auto attack on  a ^^^ golem.  Had the skill maxed when I got back from the movies.</DIV>

I used a carbonite spear (non imbued) and removed all proc buffs. After that I went to zek and soloed the epic x 2 orcs.... It took me about 30 minutes to kill one...and i got lots of skillups <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> <div></div>

I have found that at level 58, the stronger and higher level the mob, the faster my piercing goes up.   The weaker and lower the mob, the slower it goes up if at all <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

I have noticed that you have a better chance to skill up if you hit the mob.  So if you take the mob levelx5 then subtract 25 (5 levels below mob) If your skill is at this or higher then you should get more skill up than if it was below this.  I think you get fewer skill up on grey mobs as well. <div></div>

I skilled up with a weapon from an npc blacksmith.  It was a DW piercer, did like 8-15 damage and had a 1.5 delay iirc.  Took several hours over the course of a day to go from nothing to max.  <div></div>
