The stats are better than I expected, just what my character needed for tier6. Strength, agility and stamina. I also like the new look. Now if they could just give cobalt armor a new look. I got about a 1% increase in avoidance from it. Unfortunately, that avoidance increase came only from the AGI. Shield factor does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, all that matters is the quality (legendary/fabled/etc).

Why bother? >

I wish the shield factor mattered more. I just tried it out against some 49-52 heroic^^^ in the sinking sands and it is a definite improvement over the cedar.
I parsed it against the SBS (same Shield Factor and avoidance as cedar) and saw no meaningful difference. Did you parse it at all, or are you just going on feel?
Message Edited by WAPCE on 10-18-2005 09:28 AM

Severed Ironwood was the first rare I harvested in DoF and this shield was the first thing I had whipped up. Using all the same gear and weapon to me it *felt* better over my cedar, the stats are great. I'm not a parser but have played enough games to know when something feels better

It's possible that tier matters, even if shield factor doesn't.

Too bad it drops my avoidance by 2%, but man was I tired of looking at my Totemic kite shield for the past 6 months.

i can tell you this much. t5 fabled is better than t6 legendary.

i have Zalaks kite shield of dominion and a ironwood. the difference on avoid on those two are 2.3 in favor of Zalaks. its not alot but id rather use zalaks for sure. also tested it with my kite shield of the king and rubicite kite shield, both t5 fabled and both better in avoid than t6 legendary.

well ... there's a raging debate on the forums about whether the upgrade path should be: t5 legendary > t5 fabled > t6 legendary > t6 fabled or t5 legendary > t6 legendary > t5 fabled > t6 fabled ...

Block % quality level Fabled: 16% Legendary: 14% Treasured: 12% Handcrafted: 11% Common: 10% (not sure about common/handcrafted/treasured % but shouldnt be far) Avoidance modifier AGI: 1 = 0.03% Parry: 1 = 0.3% Defense: 1 = 0.2% Pretty easy now to find an upgrade path to your shield :smileyhappy:

There is a really nice kite shield that drops off the names in The Roost instance.

I forget the name, but the shield factor was around 920ish+ with some very nice stats.

Decent look, but I like the look of the ironwood more.

Pyk uses kite shield of the king and the stats on that, along with the reduced downtime between fights will make me keep it unless I see a real significant difference between that and some of the new ones.

Can't buy a Kite SHield of the King on Guk for love nor money anymore! I very much regret not buying the rather cheap one I saw just before the CU - power regen between fights would mean roleplaying as a lawnmower of mobs =)

so basicaly for avoidance purposes a t1 or t2 fabled kite shield will give you just as much avoidance as a tier 6 lol and if the teir 1 shield has 1 agi and the tier 6 doesnt the t1 fabled will give you more avoidance lol

It should be fine until then. I think that technically it still works when its gray, just not very well. I have found that tier6 gear works better than tier5 gear against tier6 mobs.

So yeah I'm a 58 pally.. still have T5 fabled pants, boots, shield and a sword in my inventory, and nothing is gray And still gives me the same stats as before, and I still tank as well, mitigate the same amount of damage. Strange isn't it?

And yes T6 legendary works better than T5 fabled because it IS better (in most cases anyway).

And to answer the question of the other person. Yes for avoidance purposes a T1 fabled shield will be as good as a T6 fabled shield, only that the T6 shield would usually have much higher stats on them but shield factor doesn't make a difference.
