<DIV>I enjoy the paladin class very much, but one thing i dislike is soloing. We seem to take forever to kill mobs. Does this speed up any in later levels, or does my Call of Qeynos always get to refresh during fights (*sarcasm*) <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Seriously, I would just like some feedback from some of our higher-level bretheren on this subject. Anything at all would be greatly appreciated. Even if it doesn't speed up, i still enjoy playing the class.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thanks</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Riane</DIV>

well, what level are you?  just so we know what we are comparing to.  at 50, i find soloing goes quite quickly for even-con solo mobs.  if you are trying to solo something at the edge of your abilities though, it does turn into: get the shield out, go into tank mode, keep healing while you wear him down slowly ... <div></div>

I guess it depends on your perception of time...lol Anything white or lower solo con, I can normally take out fast depending on what class... mage/priest the fastest of course. The fighters even or lower cons, do take a little bit longer, but you shouldn't get hit much from pure melee mobs. Anything green or blue heroic, I can normally take out but it will be a little slower.  Really depends on how much damage they can do to me, if they are a caster it gets close, but if they are a fighter using our ward helps out normally. Anything White or higher heroic....well I normally never try this much since my winning % is like 2%...lol These I leave for duo's with a healer <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> <div></div>

<P>As another poster asked what level are you? I have solo'd a lot as a Paladin and I find we kill mobs fine. Now the occasional GROUP mobs that we can solo, they have <EM>significantly</EM> more HP's that solo mobs so yes they will die slowly (or kill you). But that is becaue your killling something made for 3+ people to bang on so it has more hit points.</P> <P>But then I almost always took the direct damage related 'training' additions when I leveled up at my tens and adept 3'd my other combat arts so that all my attacks were adept II or III. It certainly has worked VERY well for me to enable me to cut through solo mobs like a hot knife through butter. Our paladinly resilience and armor just made it all the better.</P>

<P>Against even con or lower mobs soloing goes pretty fast.</P> <P>With Refusal of Grace, Sworn Strike, Implacable Wrath, and 4 other attacks you can kill a mob quickly but use up a lot of power doing it. What I do is use T5 food and drink and the manastone to trade hit points for power since you don't take much damage against solo mobs.</P> <P> </P>

there are basically three types of mobs when you are soloing. 1)   those that you can burn down before you oop, and don't hit hard enough to kill you in that time. (fast) 2)   those you can dps, and sprinkle in heals as needed.  between emergency heals and mana regen, you can keep up with their damage once you oop. (somewhat fast) 3)   those that you have to conserve mana to kill. (very slow). <div></div>

<DIV>You'll have to excuse me, for I thoght I posted my level earlier in my post. Anywho, I am currently level 24. I realize that at this level it might be too early asking this type of question, but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway.</DIV>

I can empathize with the OP.  I have just started playing my Paladin again, as a break from my Ranger main.  Granted, I am somewhat jaded as far as DPS goes, because the Ranger kills pretty quickly, but at level 23, it does seem to take a bit of time soloing.  Then again, I have been soloing AQ5 and AQ6 mobs most recently, most of which are orange cons.  Tho' I prefer groups to solo, I'm holding out hope that it does get a bit easier with a couple levels for those times (like recently) when its a little tough to find someone looking to kill the same targets as me.  Good luck!

remember ... one of the things they are trying to address in the combat changes is that lv 20 mobs are MUCH more powerful than lv 19 mobs because they have finished their subclass quest <span>:smileywink:</span>.  unfortunately at the moment, it seems the mobs get more of a boost at 20 than players do and you kinda have to tough it out for a couple of levels ... <div></div>

<DIV>In the upper-30s it still isn't quick to kill anything solo white or above, and that is using HOs constantly and with Oath Strike at Adept III. It's not a horrible timesink, though. I'd say it's in line with what I would expect, and unless I take on heroic mobs, I can take down yellows without using a heal, and oranges with one, maybe two doses of blessed aid.</DIV>

<P>I'm just barely L23, and I've been working on L25 yellow-conned giants lately. I don't get the impression that it takes a long time to kill them. Seems about typical. I end up using a shield and one or two heals. </P> <P>Yellow-conned Amazon Archers seem to go down pretty quick. Of course that's only if you get them alone without their angry orange-conned buddies to back them up.</P> <P>I've also been working on blue-conned groups of four or five gnolls, but not if they have two diviners. With only one diviner, taking the diviner down first is real easy--he drops fast, then picking off the other three is also straightforward but a bit of a grind because of all the HP you have to eat through. If they have two diviners, though, I find it really tough going because they support-heal each other, or double-heal on the non-diviner I'm trying to pick out for a writ. In that case I'm eating through their power I'm sure, but that doesn't help because I'm eating through mine just as fast.</P> <DIV>What I really like doing, though, is hiking over to the Commonlands to work on Hunter of Orcs and pulling twelve L16 grays around me and mowing them down. That does take some time and isn't entirely without risk because of their numbers.</DIV>

<DIV>From my experience ive notice that my play style only affects how I solo by about 25%. The rest comes purely from my equipment. At 35 I upgraded all my armor and my weapon and noticed a significant increase in how fast I killed and how much power I had to use on healing myself in combat. By the time I hit 39, one level from my next upgrade it all evened out and my kills were just a bit slower since my Mit, Avoid and damage stayed almost the same.</DIV>

Early 20's you are about as weak, dps to mob hps speaking, as you will ever be. You're still using tons of weapon-based CAs that are pretty pitiful, for example. At 45, the only weapon-based CAs I still use are Arem's and Condemnation, and I only use the latter for its debuff. I ran my parser for the first time in many levels last night as I was soloing the Upper Tunnels on difficult- very difficult is easy enough but I was trying for some adepts a bit closer to my level- and found that I was running from 90-115dps using sword and board on yellow con groups, which is fine by me. And that's without a single adept 3/Master damage spell/CA to my name. However, in six weeks the revamp will be out, and there's no telling where we will stand after that. Just have to wait and see. <div></div>

At the moment I am soloing at level 25 near RoV in TS, killing the skeletons. Anyone else got any suggestions? <div></div>

<div></div>I have found that it is much more enjoyable to pick up some quests and work on them, even as solo instead of trying to find some mobs to grind. You'll get xp when you fight the mobs needed for the quest and you also get some additional xp and in some cases even item rewards when you complete the quests. Beginning at level 25 I started the the chain of quests from Jacques (?) by the entrance to Antonica. Most of it should be soloable if I remember correctly. I went to a couple of solo dungeon instances in TS also related to a couple of quests, and yet another quest took me to Nektulos where a whole lot of more quests awaited me. I also explored Splitpaw some. Then it was EL's turn when I reached 30/31. So, I really recommend that if your play style is solo instead of trying to find some set of mob to grind xp. For me the levels just went by without my paying too much attention to it. I went from 25 to 36 in about 5 weeks.<p>Message Edited by Thormiel on <span class=date_text>08-19-2005</span> <span class=time_text>12:09 AM</span>

Something to remember..as a soloer your needs for newer, better, upgraded gear never diminish. As a soloer, when meddin..forage,learn all harvesting in all levels.1 rare a week will keep you well armed and armored.Learn areas, mobs, tactics, tricks.Always find the best exp and drops for your time spent there.always keep all weapon skills up,you never know when that awesome 2hb will drop and you always used 2hs.learn what potions are useful to carry..invis,sow etc.learn to use pathing to your advantage, sometimes running up a hill and down again will toss your mob way behind you, specially if he had designs on you for dinner. Now,on to your basic post..Pally is very flexible..there are just a few places in this game I have not been to.other than that..i've had a blast with this class..its alot of work..but very rewarding. Not to brag, just to give you an idea..have very good gear, some fabled, and have 40 plat saved for new expansion.all due to soloing and foraging.enjoy..lvl 50 old war dog soloer
