View Full Version : Need tips on how to get my neglected crushing skill advanced

At the very start I was rather diligent about making sure I advanced both my slashing and crushing equally. However as time went on and I got slack I let the crushing kind of slide and it is now languishing at around half the skill of my slashing at level 42. Now trying to use crushing is of course hilarious and my weapon just bounces off those green con lizards *boing*. To me a Paladin and a sword just go so well together but obviously resistances of mobs dictate otherwise - and of course I can't even begin to test the theory like this! Whats the best/most effective way to get it trained up? Should I be smacking grey cons that are of a level equivalent to my current crushing skill? I realise whatever it is will be a time sink but if I didn't expect that I wouldn't play MMORPG's Any tips from other lazy Pally's who have been through the same ringer would be appreciated.

Any barely grey double up arrow will do nicely. More hit points, less running around trying to find more. Thankfully it's not nearly as hard to do as it was in EQ1... At 42, I might suggest Stormhold and those skellies when you zone in to kill Chesgard. There are alot of them in a small area and they respawn quickly.

Message Edited by Pathin Merrithay on 07-22-2005 12:28 AM

As the posters above suggested, take very grey double-up mob. Buy a low damage weapon for a few silver, for instance a cheap iron mace without stats from an NPC vendor. The less damage, the better. Dual wield if possible. It won't make a considerable damage, which is good, as the same mob will last longer. Skill-ups come regardless of that. Since the mob can't hit you either, it's fairly safe just to auto-attack and watch a movie.

Harclave's is probably the best place to work on weapon skills.:smileyvery-happy:

The haste buff you get in there is crazy, and you swing non stop. You wont be feeling like you are gimping a group if they need you at 100% since it is a solo zone, and you can still get awesome exp and nice coin/loot while skilling up.

Message Edited by KBern on 07-22-2005 09:36 AM

I concur with Harclave. I personally did this the other day. I wanted to start using a feysteel maul I had as i didn't have any good 2handers. Well, it's a maul so it uses crushing. I used my 1hs until I got the buff and killed the first two heroic mobs right below the ark. After that, switched to the maul and let me damage shield do most of the work. At level 37, when the maul finally started hitting I was doing like 250-300+ dps off the maul alone. In one run through Harclave I gained about 30 skill points in crushing, maxing it out. And it's easy! Press auto attack.. go get a drink, use the bathroom, etc. When you come back, you still haven't killed anything, but your crushing is going up and the mobs are all at half health from your damage shield

I'm in the process of gaining my crushing skill... and yes it is extremly dull. One tip I found was unequip your 1H (keep your shield) turn off your procs (swap armour if need be) and go to town on a grey^^ just using your fists. I pounded away at a giant in TS for 30min (during which time I was chatting on MSN and brousing the web checking back every so often)... the giant never died in fact it despawned and I'm now up to crushing 60 ... with fists and no procs it would take HOURS to kill anything.

Message Edited by boli on 07-22-2005 10:38 PM

You want an easy way to increase crushing skill? Here's the easiest way. Remove your weapons. Your fists count as crushing. Find a nice ^^ mob that is grey and don't hit ya for much. Just leave yourself on autoattack and go surf the net... mow the yard.. etc.

Fistgar

50 gnome pally

Permafrost server

Iconoclast

Thank you all so much for the advice its very much appreciated =) I have to kill greys for quite a few Heritage quests so if I combine that with the fist approach at least it won't be SO boring! I may have to take my pants off - don't want that nasty sanguine imbue killing them hehe. So if you are on Guk and you see a pantless blonde high elf Paladin smacking greys with her little fists - its just me I also do a couple of Har's runs every level now just because its the best fun ever and the thought of having that gorgeous buff and going pugilistic seems like fun! Thanks again (Paladins are the nicest people I swear)

Remember if you have the live "event" quests going..those assassins can pop anytime. So your wacking greys on auto attack, relaxing and one pops while your mowing the lawn :smileyvery-happy:

Other than the options provided, you may just want to run into the fray with a good weapon if it's crushing. It may be a drain on your group with your slightly lowered dps, but crushing does go faster on higher level mobs (no matter if they are grey or not, I found). I had my crushing skill at about 140, and it raised to about 220 (the max for me at that time) on yellows and oranges in Permafrost. (I figured the imbued cedar club I was using, even with my lower skill, was a better option than my then green Ghoulbane.)

Gee Blackweb - your grasp of the situation is astounding, thanks so much for taking time out of your busy lifestyle for your most erudite and thought provoking advice =D Well, I was tooling around Feerrott today and was getting a little tired so I found a nice level 36 grey con marsh fly beastie, unequipped weapons and shield and proccing leg thingies - and went at it (you hit a beastie for 1 point of crushing damage!). Actually my char went at it and I laid down in bed to have a read. It took 3 of them to gain about 110 points of crushing skill - and quite a few chapters of my book Thanks again for the advice!
