View Full Version : Taunt Effectiveness

<DIV>Have any of you noticed that our taunts seem to be generating more hate? I am not sure if this is just me, or If it due to me mixing in the new taunt out of SP, or if it is some other factor such as a different weapon or potion I am using. what ever the X-factor is, I deff have more hate during battles. I will be the firt to say that paladins taunts have been all but worthless since somewhere in the mid 20's, but there is something up. I have ad3 and masters for all my taunts and have for some time but they have never worked like they are now. I can actually steal aggro sometimes from our guard now and that has never happened before. I am just wondering if Sony is tinkering with our taunts for the upcoming (adjustments,nerfing,whatever).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Please let me know if I am crazy or if you are seeing a difference also</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Knickknac</DIV> <DIV>Permafrost</DIV>

our taunts do seem to be working a little better.. but i haven't noticed it much since i hardly ever lose aggro in the first place. <div></div>

<DIV>The reason you may see an issue with taunt effectiveness is due to pre-nukers or pre-attackers. Our taunts are nothing more than an initial attention getter. After the initial agro grab your agro transferance and your defense buff(knights stance/shining beacon/Benediction) kick in. Remember a paldin truely manages agro rather than just generate agro. I have no problems gaining or holding agro.

<P>I have heard a lot of people complain about Pally taunts in the past. Honestly, it hasn't been a problem for me at all. Most single group fights I have to taunt 1 time, then focus on DPS. Recently, I had a chance to tank on raids. What a blast. By the way, Pallys can do a good job being the MT pallys. So far I have been lucky enought to sucessfully tank,</P> <P>King D, Vox, The Angler, and the Shard Drakotas</P> <P>Guards still probably have an edge on us, but not nearly as big everyone thinks. In fact, I have grouped with level 49 and 50 guards and have been able to hold aggro better. The single biggest thing to taunt well is to have someone in your group generating a lot of hate, and then use Theron's Call of Hope. I cast that after the fight starts. That transfers 10% of the groups hate to you. I also use my ward a lot, Zealous Preaching. The last couple times I tanked a raid mob, I didn't even use Courageous Dash that much because it uses so much power. I just wish our taunts had a longer range. <P>For taunt problem I don't knwo or the higher lvl. But at low lvl. I just cast a ward if I do really have an aggro problem.</P> <P> </P> <DIV>My taunt were not ale to stole the aggro to the dam guardian that were keeping using his taunt (I was main tank bcuz I had betther stats) But 1 ward and bingo. Our taunts however are now where near the class of guardians .. guardian taunts are not the reason they can tank better however, that is due to Mit differences.( pally/sk mit is much more dependent on gear than guards, and they have a higher cap than we do not to mention the + from a towershield)</DIV> <DIV>As far as spell level, I use masters and ad3 of all the taunts and I have been using them for sometime,, groups have never really been an issue with the exception of a cowboy warlock here and there.. or sometimes a dirge buffing/singing in battle. What I talking about is the big boys... the X4 statics and such.. In the past I could not even hope to steal aggro.. but in the past 3 days things are deff different.. I have noticed an incredible increase in hate.. Has anyone else noticed that our aggro from creatures initially is also higher then others? Ive been in fights where i wasnt the main tank, lower lvl then the 38 guy(i was 28, and no i wasnt getting exp) and the mobs made a bee line for me when the encounter started. i didnt touch a thing or cast a spell, and they go right after me. It seems SOE has given us initial aggro higher then those around us. i thought that was wierd, not that i mind. anyone else noptice this? ive had quite a few instances where this has happened. <div></div>

It was not because you are a paladin, but beacause you seemed like a weak/easy target.</span><div></div>
