I was recently raiding the Zek instance with my parser running, that I use to keep track of slack [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] WIzards and such on raids. I was surprised to see that I was consistently showing 220+ dps per encounter. I was pretty much spamming all my damage spells as well as AoE. The fights would end just about time my power ran out so the situation was ideal to show a high damage per second. But even taking all factors into account I was impressed with myself. PS. The majority of my spells are App4/Adept 1 so this number could be considerably higher if I would stop slacking and go get some upgraded spells.

its true, spells like decree take alot of mana but when upgraded can hit a large encounter like some of those zek fights really hard, doom judgement will hit for over 500 at adept 3

I have done some live parsing with my level 50 Paladin vs a 50 Necro and 50 Zerker. Consistently the necro will out dps both of us, but I will out dps the zerker but quite a margin. The testing was donr in Nek Castle 2 versus the 150k hp golems. With my setup I will get about 95dps and the zerker about 85dps. That was with the Screaming mace, not sure what the zerker had. I only gain a few dps by going with the Bone Bladed Claymore.

I have to say, I think zerkers should have a higher dps then us so I am not sure what the deal is. If the fight is short I can max out my dps in that zone around 150-170dps. That is just nuts, especially when I am used to EQ1! :smileyvery-happy:

Don't get me wrong, I love it. I throw my Grant of Armament and Unwavering faith as well as Crusade on the main tank. I pop on my proc and throw a Crusade on 3 other people in the group and away we go. Since I have such nice dps plus the ability to increase the capabilities of another tank in the group it only makes sense. I love how tanks can stack in a group.

We got all the way through Nek2 and wiped on Everling with a guardian, zerker, necro, inquisitor, fury and paladin, all level 50. Have to say, 3 tanks 2 healers and a single dps class, that is a fun group. Way abnormal, but hey, thats whats fun!

I find that when I parse I notice that there are a lot of lazy folks out there. Conjourers are most commonly the laziest players. More than half of them I play with don't cast ANY spells during a fight and try to let their pet do all the damage for them, which is pitiful. Needless to say I don't play with them more than once. Having two healers in a group is usually recipe for having one with their thumb up their .. well, usually you don't need both of them healing I'll just say that. I'm sorry, but if after a long fight I'm out of power and everyone else is at or very near full (other tanks, scouts, mages and healers, everyone) there are just a ton of lazy people out there making it more difficult for me (and them) to level quickly. Is anyone else noticing this or am I on the lathargic server? Its one thing to out DPS group members on a consistant basis, its another entirely to get 75%-100% more DPS than the 2nd most in the group. I am 30, by the way. I hope it gets better with time.

it doesnt ... i've seen scouts sit in raids WITHOUT autoattack on for minute-long intervals. some people are along for the ride to get free xp, some healers are saving mana for that red++ add that never comes, ...

And I keep grouping with more and more priest classes 45 and > that let the tank linger around in the orange for extended periods of time. Eventually, I can't take it anymore and I start healing to get them back to yellow. Even then I've watched their health stay in the yellow (where I put it with my heal or 2) for another 20 seconds.

I also keep finding myself in pickup groups where I have to heal myself while main tanking. Occasionally, I'll think to myself that I will die before I heal myself since it's not my job, but when I hit the red, I reconsider and start healing. I can understand a spot heal here and there on some white ^^ and above, but if a tank has to heal themself on blue ^^ at 50, the healer is failing to do their job. I see way to many priest classes nuking away on mobs instead of focusing on the tank. Likewise, I see WAY too few reactive heals on the tank. My personal observation is that many are just spot healing with a single one-time heal here and there and nothing more.

I have a funny feeling some of these players know we can heal (but are unaware we are not "real" healers) so they don't stay on top of the healing game. I've off tanked in groups where I've healed more total damage on the tank then the priest profession--which in effect makes us a worthless DPS addition if we have to spam heals constantly. I still love pickup groups for the opportunity to play with a lot of different people, but I can certainly understand reservations that others have regarding mixing outside their guild or local RL friends.

It's always refreshing to get in a group with a good healer where you never leave the green even in a small/half-sized party fighting harder mobs.

Thanks,
Kalen

I've started using Combat Stats for pasring because of the ease of copy/paste with the stats after each encounter. This tends to light a fire under people's [Removed for Content] and get them to work. The nice thing about Combat Stats is it shows the damage done and RANKS everyone's dps. That's the key. The ranking. It appeals to their ego. Human beings can't help it. We much do better than our neighbor. Must out dps him! I swear to you I never saw a conjourer do as much dps as I did this afternoon. Can't do anything about a bum healer, though, other than die. The ranking of dps tends to make healers even worse =/ . They start focusing solely on their dps and forget they aren't a wizard.

I've noticed the same thing about slackers often. It's one of the reasons I very seldom tank a pick up group these days. I see how the damage parser could make people pick up the pace, but personally I don't like it showing up after every fight. It almost seems like spam.

A few things I do to try to resolve any slacking in any group I'm tanking are;

Take on very challenging content for your group size & level, sometimes slacking seems to stem from players simply being bored with what they are doing. Give them a fight where they HAVE to do their part and they generally will. Unfortunately if they don't, you're taking a dirtnap while they run away, oh well happened before and will happen again. :smileytongue:

And honestly, I'll be plain out blunt with people and tell them to "Wake up!" or "Do something damnit!" or something along those lines. Been called a jerk or worse many times, and even in some cases had people leave the group. Oh well, the group is better for it in the long run.

As for the OP, yeah our AEs rock, but omg do they suck down the power. I only use them if the encounter has 5+ mobs, even with the high damage output, it doesn't seem feesable to me power wise to use it on fewer.

I play a Paladin, Templar and Illusionist all at a similar level, and have a few issues with parsers. From reading the logs I am at a loss (as a programmer), to understand how they are useful in assessing a group. The most glaring errors I can see are: 1) Cleric reactive heals come out as X healing themself. So the healer doesn't get credit 2) Buffs, like the Illusionist increasing everyone elses dps don't get credit 3) There is no fair way to assign damage from HOs - any formular will be unfair to someone. who gets credit - the person who starts? the scout who spins it? the moveralongers? the finisher? - check the logs and you will see the information to assign this is not there. 3) Tanks can go all out with damage, right from the start. Noone else can, especially healers or : a) They get aggroed and die b) The healer doesn't have enough power to actually heal, and the tank/group wipes. 4) People using parsers have in the groups I've been in (which are all pickup groups, as I'm not guilded) used them to encourage all out damage. I've managed as a templar to go from last to 2nd, but its at a large risk of a group wipe. Parsers have their place - in seeing how your own damage can be maxed / which spells work best, but please don't share your supposed results and claim they mean something. And back to the original thread topic - fine Paladin's do great dps NOW. I will be interested to see how much crowing there is after the combat changes :smileysad:
