View Full Version : Epic Targets and the Combat Upgrade

<DIV>I have a suggestion for making the combat upgrade more appealing. From what I understand, the combat upgrade will primarily affect spells and combat arts. And, that we will have more incentive to upgrade our spells and combat arts. For high lvl characters and the end game (raids), the fact that those upgrades do not affect Epic targets is a huge disincentive to spend their hard-earned coin on them. For example, my Pious Belief Adept III boosts my Paladin strength and stamina by a whopping 23 each and my wisdom by 16 but then there is a note saying that it does not affect epic targets. Why not? Do epic targets automatically ignore all of my buffs? Is the skill description incorrect? Are my strength and stamina automatically reduced by 23 each when fighting an epic target? I dont think there should be any difference in how our spells and skills work vs epic targets, heroic or normal. If that means it is necessary to buff some mobs, I would not have a problem with that. That is better than spending a lot of coin on spells and combat arts that do not work when I really need them to.</DIV>

that's gotta be a misprint ... i haven't heard of mobs ignoring buffs. "doesn't work on epics" only makes sense for spells that target mobs. <div></div>

<P>Correct me if im wrong, but raid mobs are being changed so that you can no longer stun them. Spells that have an additional effect that would stun them will still execute, but just the stun effect wont work. That change seems fair enough. No way i should be able to stun Lord Nagalik with a little shield bash <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> I could see maybe a master spell being able to hit them, but nothing lower.</P> <P>The Pious Belief spell seems to have an incorrect description. The upgrade to it (Crusade) says that it cannot be despelled. I'm guessing that may be what they meant to put in there.</P>

Epics need to be immune to stuns, I agree. They are also immune to lowering their speed, and again I agree. I think they're also immune to having their DPS lowered, cuz epics are immune to my Doom Judgement, and I can agree with that too.......though I wish it would still do the dmg, it currently wont attack an epic cuz it says something like Cannot Target or something. Epics shouldn't be immune to buffs though.

<P>Blackweb,</P> <P>That kind of reminds me of the old description that would read "an undenyable taunt." Oh really? <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P> <P>Thanks,<BR>Kalen</P>

<DIV>most of my skills are master 1 now ( if i could pious aid and display i would be rockin ) and i have nothing that does not hit epic mobs besides the occasional judgement strike, courageous dash is like our best agro spell ever, it is worth having the master even if it doesnt increase the hate gain it still seems to hit more often.... pulls mobs off way better then rescue, and with the soon to come revamp of masters i would say dont pass on any.</DIV>

<DIV>Here is the SOE response from Blackgaurd:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><BR> <BLOCKQUOTE> <HR> Spells and Combat Arts that currently can't even be used against epic<BR>targets, such as stuns, will work to some degree against epic targets<BR>after the combat changes. Jared is separating out each individual effect<BR>of each spell. If you have a spell that does damage and stuns the<BR>target, you currently can't use it against an epic target. After the<BR>changes, if you have a spell that does damage and stuns the target, you<BR>can still use it, but it will only do the damage portion.<BR><BR>How that works with a spell/art like you are describing, I don't know.<BR>Jared may be able to answer that one. <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Jared's response:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>"Looks like a bug. This spell was flagged not to work against epic<BR>targets, even though it functions as a buff. This had no in game impact<BR>as buffs will always affect players, despite the labeling. I went ahead<BR>and removed the epic target flag on it.<BR><BR>-Jared" <BR></DIV> <DIV> <HR> </DIV></BLOCKQUOTE>Thanks for the quick response SOE! :smileyvery-happy:<BR></DIV>
