Er... We have two spells that produce these reagent The lowest of which is Blessing of the Penitent (which produces Penitent Essences), the higher verision produces Devout Essences. As Uzhiel pointed out, these are used in our self heal spells, so start saving them.

Basically, you get the first spell "Blessing of the Penitent" that provides a small HP buff. As you are struck in battle an item called a Penitent Essence is added to your inventory (what you're already seeing and asking about). They drop in inventory usually a few times when you are hit but are mostly random. You can not get them if you don't have the spell cast. They will stack 50 high and as previously recommend save them for now.

Later, you will get the counter-part to this spell "Penitent Sacrement". Think of the word sacrement=sacrifice. Basically, when you are hurt bad (in the orange) you may use the new spell the sacrement to sacrifice a stone in inventory to heal yourself much more then you can with Blessed Aid. The sacrement is on a 5 minute timer so it's not used frequently like Blessed Aid, but when you're in trouble, it's a lifesaver. It only works on you! I typically hold off on using this unless I'm soloing and hit the orange and can't keep up with the Blessed Aid line.

As you level up the tiers, replacement spells will heal even more then the Penitent line. The replacement line is called Devout instead of Penitent, but it works the same way and has the same spell names with devout substituted for penitent.

I still carrry a 50 stack of Penitent Essence with me for mentoring and I have a 50 stack of Devout Essence with me for higher end content and non-mentoring. You'll find, unless they've changed it a lot, Penitent Essence is harder to get then Devout. I had about 60 saved up when I finally got the spell to heal myself and I used it like mad because another Paladin gave me insight regarding the usage. Devout Essence can overflow your inventory fast

Thanks,
Kalen

Message Edited by SanJun on 06-03-2005 08:45 AM

Ok, so we need this item we get from a previous spell to cast a heal only every 5 min..... Mana or not 5 min sucks. :smileytongue:

They really need to change Blessing of the Devout to the same 1% chance that Penitent uses instead of 5%. At the current rate, they're practically generating faster than you can use them, given the 5 minute recast timer. I'm sure people would still complain about a nerf, though...

It is like having a 5 minute, self only lay hands that costs nearly no power and casts fast. Once you have about 10 or more essences, use this heal as much as you can. It is well worth it.

>>>Yes, yes they can. I normally have to delete stacks of 50 out of my inventory since they pop so fast<<< You can sell them on the broker as an alternative. Not sure how much demand there is for them, but when I first got the heal that uses them, I bought a few. At the moment I have more than I can use, though.

funny thing was u used to be able to sell them to NPC's for a decent amount of cash. At the lower lvls i could generate about 1 gold every day selling stacks of it. As it is, dont delete them! u can sell them on Broker. I buy stacks all the time because i raid so much i burn through 1 stack a day.
