View Full Version : Spending recommendations for Padadin at level 25 with a couple of rares

In light of Sony's continual tweaking, what would the current recommendation be for using a couple of rares? I've harvested a tier 2, and a tier 3 rare, and as an alchemist can make the spells myself. The character I'm looking to upgrade is a lvl 25 Paladin, currently wearing AQ armour, blue kiteshield, Berik's Sword of Thunder, mainly AppIV with a few Adept 1 spells. Retaining hate in a group seems to be the main problem for Paladins, so my guess is to make Redemption Adept 3, and sell the tier 2 rare ( suzuri ink goes for about 20g on my server currently, and I can't see a "must upgrade" spell in tier 2 ), saving the money towards a better shield and tier 4 armour. Is there a better plan? I level quite slowly, and are mainly concerned with how things work in a group.

Message Edited by Antryg Mistrose on 05-23-2005 07:47 AM

Smartly played Paladins at your level have 0 problems holding aggro, at least I never did. As for your tier 3 Rare, use it on Oath Strike. The damage increase and intial aggro this 'alpha stike' gives is just fabulous. I have NEVER regreted putting it adept 3. If you plan on not using the level 30 training for the heal specilization then adpet three your heal spell [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] well (NOT the LH, it does not get used enough to warrant a rare IMO, you will use your regular heal a LOT more).

As for tier 2 spells, put your tier 2 rare into yout stat buff. It will last you until level 33ish if memeory serves me.

I personally have gone with the DD specialization upgrades as I have leveled. My theory is that I should use specializations on powers I will use a LOT. The direct damage spell specializations I can use in any and all situations wether tanking or playing backup. They help in groups and while soloing and more DPS is always good. Lastly the one youget at 30 also has a rather sizable agility boost, which to me helps on defense as well as offense.

Well for spell its sorta the way you play: If you tank alot, invest in a better hate spells, if damage is your thing go dmg, in general its good to go with group buffs becouse more poeple benafite.

When it comes to other things (armor, jewlary, etc..) Go with a better wep, if your soloing, tanking , or grouping you always use it. armor and others not so. but spells are always best.

I have no regrets getting adept III's for Demonstration of Faith and Blessed Aid. DoF wards for 284 (vs 243 for Adept 1 and 190ish for App III) at a power cost of about 60. At level 32, I prefer it over App IV Faithful Zeal (which at the moment wards for a little bit more for quite a bit more power). It is still effective at warding most damage vs level 33-34 mobs. Very handy in groups for warding the MT as well. I found a Jasper the other day and am trying to choose between using it on Faithful Zeal or Oath Strike.

Well all I have are App I spells and I do fine tanking. No troubles with agro.

As for armor, I concentrate on any rares with stamina. I have 99 stamina at level 25. I have Bhorgese's Braclelets which give me 6 stamina each, and I have two imbued rings of stamina. I always have Vigor of trust on, and have a stamina potion on me at all times.

Maybe I group more with more gungho DPS types than normal :smileywink: Without Redemption up, it's like a one handed paper hanger, trying to keep aggro, without running out of power, in some pickup groups. I was lucky enough to find another tier 3 rare, so I've gone with Redemption, with Oathstrike to follow. ( I already had Adept 1 of Knights Stance, Blessed Aid & Demonstration of Faith ). So my tier 2 rare is on the broker as suzuri ink. Thanks for all the responses.

If any of those tier 3 rares are Pallidum cluster keep it don't use it. Unless you don't plan on doing that HQ. And even then you might want to think of selling that cluster rather then using it for future armor and weapons upgrades.

If both are the gem rares then think of blessed aid and your ward(s) all very nice to have. Taunts would be my next choice after the first two. Damage spells are usally my last upgrades to Adpets unless I get a book drop. As the MT our job is not to do damage but to maintain aggro.

But I also get all my spells upgraded to App 4 pretty much when I get them as I have an alchemist buddy. But I still recommend tring to make friends with any alchemist and get the upgrades as you level to atleast App 4. Shop around a bit and you should be able to find someone that will make them for a reasonable price.

Any DPS-er can get aggro from a tank if they feel like it, no matter what the tank does. If it were any other way, EQ2 would be very boring :smileywink: At my level 35 I wish I had Adept3 ward, and Adept3 holy strike (forgot the name, sorry). The ward is hugely important whatever we do (solo or group), both for staying alive and for aggro. The holy strike does so much damage that you'll fall in love with it every time you use it Last time I checked, spell quality increases for our taunts are nice, but not huge. I rather doubt you'll really notice the difference between an Adept1 and an Adept3 version of our taunts.

Healing is more efficient than warding, but warding prevents interrupts, gives you lots of aggro and leaves you at full health when you are done. Much better than going below half health, trying to heal and getting interrupted.
