Just trying to get another view on this from pallies )

When frogs come out, i have two friends making paladins. Since I currently already have a 47 paladin it is somewhat pointless to create a new one. (even though 3 pallies would be fun :smileyhappy So, I've been trying to decide what would work best in a trio with 2 paladins. i really don't think I want to play a priest. So, I think i've decided on either a Troubador or a warlock. I've thought Troub purely for the buffs since buffs can increase combat effectiveness greatly. But i've also thought about the pure dps of a warlock. Not sure which will make up for having less healing power more.

You guys think it may work out with either? or will it be junk? lol

P.S. Has anyone had a group of 6 paladins before? Been wanting to do it for a very long time, but never got around to it. Wondering if it would work out as good as I think it would. :smileywink:

i cant help feeling you'll miss a healer to keep your 2 mates alive. if not go for something with big damage or you'll have some long battles ahead

but what would i know im a lowly lvl 26 pally.

pallys rule

I can certainly vouch that a troub-pally duo works rather well. My friend and I duo all the time, its amazing to see how much troub buffs help a pally tank. Both troubs and pallies provide a large variety of abilities, all the two of us really miss is not haveing group invis.

Warden would be a great addition to two Pallies. Kind of a hibrid priest... But if that's no good, then Troub.

If you really plan on trioing a new set of toons from beginning to end, I would highly suggest that you explain the downfall of trioing two Paladins together in tier 5 on hard mobs.

Let's assume one of them will be a Paladin--great! They'll be a wonderful tank in a trio situation that will handle your needs. In the first three tiers, you guys will rock!

For a lot of tier 4 and most tier 5 content and best XP, you'll be chasing blue, white and the occasional yellow ^^ mob. It's not practical to deal with these mobs unless you have a healer. You simply will not be as effective or efficient without a healer. Someone needs to be healer in your trio for high end tier 5 content unless you want to stick with green and blue ^^. I have a level 17 Cleric I'm working towards Templar that is already a LOT of fun to play! Perhaps you might want to play a similar or hybrid healing class? Perhaps you can encourage one of the Pally-wanna-be's to walk down this road?

Next, espeically if we get hit hard on dps during the combat revamp, you'll need a damage class. I would suggest either a scout class elite or mage-class elite. I have a 27 Ratonga Assassin that is so much fun to play I couldn't imagine a better selection for me personally. The primary reason I went scout class is because I'm an HO freak and what better way to handle them and be effective if you undertand how they work and more importantly control and "flip" them to what the party needs the most.

It's certainly hard to argue against your choice of Warlock for damage. This profession will layeth down the smack and do it as well as anyone and usually better then most!

I'm assuming your trio is probably RL or long time gaming friends that enjoy playing together. It's very easy with just three players to coordinate events really well, especially if you're in VOIP chat (Vent/Teamspeak). Imagine the HO opportunities with either:

Scout->Fighter->Mage or Scout->Fighter->Priest

You are guarenteed a three man HO event every encounter! This will NOT be possible with two tank class and one heal or dps class. You will be restricted in a trio situation to two player HO opportunities. If you can't convice them, have them visit http://eq2.ogaming.com and read about the three man HO events and what all they can offer your group should you diversify.

After playing together for probably as short as one afternoon, you'll be rifling these off like a well tuned engine.

Myself and two RL friends started evil alts in Freeport to experience the other side of the game's content as well as mix up roles. I switched from Paladin to Assassin. Our Wizard switched to an Inquisitor. Our Swashbuckler switched to a ShadowKnight. We were able to kill giants in Thundering Steppes in a trio situation that conned orange ^^ to our party. How? We spam three man HOs with me flipping to buffs to get things going and then working hard to get bonus damage. When it's too much for our healer to participate because he needs to keep the tank alive with chain heals we revert back to two man HOs between the tank and myself going for the boot-cape combination. Is it worth it? You tell me when you're earning 2% xp per kill and loot x5 compared to tier 5 drops I rarely see these days.

It's clear you'll have a tank. It's clear you'll need a healer. It's clear you'll need dps. It's clear you'll need three different base professions to start and complete three player HO events.

Thanks,
Kalen

Message Edited by SanJun on 05-25-2005 11:11 AM
