I have often wondered what the difference is? on those 2.

However the difference becomes significant for rare Jewlery. I guess the reason for the price differential often observed, is that when most people think of getting an Adept III, they think Ruby.</span><div></div>

The theory that I have heard regarding raw components for inks is that the metallic option has more durability than the inorganic/gem option.  As a result, the chances of creating a pristine reagent for the ink are greater with the metal cluster than with the gem. Speaking as a level 32 Alchemist I can only say from my experience that this theory <i>seems</i> to be true; however, I do not have any hard evidence to back that up.  So do as you must, but I would pick the rhodium over the ruby if I had a choice. <P>I'm not sure about the theory regarding metalic making pristine ink easier to craft.  However, it may be true.  I do know several alchemist that happily turn rubies into pristine ink, so I suppose I could ask a few in my guild if they notice a difference.</P> <P>From a jewelry perspective, it's hard to beat a pristine imbued ruby ring of <whatever>.  I haven't crafted (sans a few paladium torques for people hurting on heritage) in months.  I'm not even sure rhodium can be used in conjunction with luminous extract for a pristine imbued rhodium <whatever>.  I'm pretty sure it's not possible, but someone will correct me if I'm wrong <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P> <P>Both are priced almost identical on my server so as a potential buyer, I would always buy the rhodium to upgrade a spell and save the ruby for players that desire the high-end jewelry.  I do know both the ruby and the rhodium can be converted ultimately into adept 3 upgrades, but I'm not sure both can be converted into imbued jewelry.  Ok, now I'm curious, so I'll have to go look it up <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P> <P>Does anyone know of another potential use for rhodium and ruby outside of adept upgrades and jewelry upgrades?</P> <P>Thanks,<BR>Kalen</P>

<DIV>I checked my jewelry information to be certain.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The only jewelry item that can be imbued at the moment is a ring and more specifically a ruby ring.  Rhodium can be used as a rare jewelry craft, but it can not be imbued.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The following chart will identify the potential jewelry crafts you can make from ruby/rhodium harvests:</DIV> <DIV><A href="http://www.judojiujitsucee.org/Images/Jewels.htm" target=_blank>http://www.judojiujitsucee.org/Images/Jewels.htm</A></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I was in the mind set that rubies ALWAYS go to imbued rings because of the nice stats while I tend to think of rhodium ALWAYS going to adept 3 upgrades.  However, this philosophy could certainly be flawed.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Some rhodium rares could easily be converted into nice pieces of jewelry depending on your profession.  Even though they can not be imbued, they still make nice trinkets with nice stats.  All rubies do NOT have to go to rings.  If you already have two imbued rings, there's not much use for a third ruby harvest other then an adept 3 upgrade or sale for coin.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If I had the coin and was in the market for an adept 3 upgrade, I would check both rare prices and probably buy the cheapest.  However, all things equal I would select the rhodium cluster since many players are seeking rubies for rings.  Incidentally, you can NOT have two rings that are both imbued with the same stat modifier--i.e. two pristine ruby rings of STR.  You can however, mix and match one with STR and one with STA, AGI, WIS, etc.  Hex dolls are another story.  You can have two hex dolls both with the same modifier and they do stack.  I just recently converted my second t5 figwart into my second STA doll--wanted more overall HP and +24 isn't too shaby from both dolls.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thanks,<BR>Kalen</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<div></div>Rubies and rhodiums both make T5 rare ink. It is generally easier to get a pristine reagent using the metal instead of the gem, as they do have more durability built into them. Once you get the reagent though, there's no difference when making the dye, ink, or spell. In any case, it's not that big a deal, because the quality of the ink doesn't matter when making adept 3s. A pristine ink or a crude ink both give an adept 3. Edit: Also, it's not just rough rubies, but cracked, flawed, cloudy, whatever kinds of rubies there are will work just fine. <div></div><p>Message Edited by korpo53 on <span class=date_text>05-26-2005</span> <span class=time_text>01:15 PM</span>

I got a "fissured ruby" tonight. Does that work like a regular ruby?

I thought palladium could be used for AdeptIII too.

Here is the list as best as I can remember: -- Tier 2 - L10-19 - Silver Cluster and Rough Coral -- Tier 3 - L20-29 - Palladium Cluster and Rough Jasper -- Tier 4 - L30-39 - Ruthenium Cluster and Rough Opal -- Tier 5 - L40-49 - Rhodium Cluster and Rough Ruby You can also substitute any Items that share the rare's name in the combine. So Opal Geodes = Opal Clouded, Fisured Rubies = Ruby etc...</span><div></div>

It makes no difference whether you use the gem or the metal for rare ink - it is not 'easier' to get pristine from either, in any sense of the word, and irrespective of this you don't need pristine ink anyway since a crude finish will get you an adept 3 skill/spell, identical to a pristine.  The only advantage of making a pristine adept 3 is that the alchemist/sage/jeweler makign it gets the bonus for making his/her first pristine of that spell/skill at adept 3!  So use whichever is cheapest. For completeness' sake, the tier 1 rares for making adept 3s for levels 3-9 are copper and lapis lazuli. <div></div>

<DIV>Please excuse my ignorance folks, as I've never seeked out a craftsman to make an upgrade for one of my skills before.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I recently found my first Rhodium cluster, but I'm clueless as to what craftsman I need to find to create a skill upgrade.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Do I need to find an Alchemist "First" to create the Ink for me... then locate a Sage to create the skill upgrade from the ink the Alchemist creates?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Again, sorry for my cluelessness <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

For about 20 levels I was working with one Alchemist who would give me great deals on App IV Upgrades, and also very cheap combines on rares. In turn whenever I got stacks of minerals or roots, I would just send them his way.  This worked out very very good, since the brooker charges huge prices for upgrades, normally on my server. For the last 6-7 levels, an ex guildie of mine has been getting my business (50 Alchemist) for both my upgrades and Potions, since he gives me even better deals <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> My main point though is, to try to find an Alchemist friend early on in your Paladin life, and you will save yourself a lot of coin, and also a lot of time trying to find upgrades.</span><div></div>

<P>You're welcome.</P> <P>I did the same as Phov early in the game and built a few crafting relationships that have lasted long-term.  I met an alchemist friend through the crafting channel that made all my Paladin upgrades while I made glasses/vials/etc. in return.  Likewise, he made my liquids, tempers, oils, resins for jewelry and I created spell upgrades for his scout ALT and gathered alchy resources when harvesting.</P> <P>I also built a great partnership with an armorsmith on my server that worked out extremely well.  He would bring me coal, resources and liquids to craft combines for the armor profession and I used the goods to literally grind out at least four of my mid 30's levels all free of charge.  Likewise, he crafted my first suit of feyiron armor for mere pocket change.  The armorsmith was also a Paladin and helped me a lot with tips on where to hunt, latest gear fads, etc.</P> <P>I can honestly say that I would have never had the gear and goods I had in the tier 2 and tier 3 levels if I had not built such great crafting relationships to push me through the levels.  </P> <P>Thanks,<BR>Kalen</P>
