I dont know, just seems like one trying to start a flame war. But I guess ill give you my perspective... /shrug At lvl 46 I have more hp than many guardians my level or a level or 2 above me. This goes the same for my mitigation and avoidance (which is usually significantly higher). Of course my gear is nice but it does still prove that I can effectively tank. As far as aggro is concerned I have less taunts, yes, but there is a wonderful spell called Redemption that allows us to maintain aggro very nicely =) When you try to start a flame war at least provide some situational information as your argument will hold up much better.
Actaully, you are incorrect in your assumptions as to the roles and designs of a military tank. they are given heavy armor for the fact that they can stay on or near the front lines, take plenty of damage, and continue to fight, similar to our 'tanks' in EQ2, we are designed so we can sit near or on the front line, and take plenty of damage, protect weaker (physically) classes and continue to stand and fight.

i.e. Watch the news, when tanks are rolling through enemy territory, namely urban areas where attacks can come from any time, where does the infantry stand? They follow behind the tank, so that the tank can take the majority of the damage and continue to fight, while the infantry provides back up roles for them. when a group is running through a high end zone, does the caster lead the group? not normally, normally the tank is in front and people are on /follow, why, so that in the event of an attack, he will be the main target, same thing in normal planned combat.

BTW, a military tank without armor is called artilary, they have excelent damage and range, but very little armor/protection and can be taken out fairly easily if attacked....kinda like a caster, reason we call them glass cannons

Some may have mis-read me, I did not mean that a Paladin could not "tank" as the term is used in this game but merely pointing out that a TANK is an offensive weapon & I feel that Pally's are more an offensive class like Brawler/ Monk rather than taking a defensive role. It does also depend on the situation as well & who you're grouped with. This was not meant to start any argument's at all please don't take it that way. :smileyhappy:

Paladins are the main battle tank to the wizard's helicopter gunship.

Certainly, a battleship could take a lot more damage, but not per scale. Other designations include Medics (referring to healers), Nukes (referring to mages, primarily wizards), and Ghosts (referring to scouts and stealthers) seem to fit with the primary mission objectives of military hardware and personnel. Yes tanks do a lot of damage on the battlefield. However artillery, planes, and ships do more damage. Hence it fits in line that paladins are tanks as opposed to say howitzers, battleships, stealth bombers, etc

Yes they sre given heavy armor to protect themselve's - for they make good tergets from RPG'S & such - if your knowledge of Armored warfare comes from watching the news in a zone that is now deemed relatively safe ( that's why you have a '[expletive ninja'd by Faarbot]' civilian cameraman there, if they were under fire or in heavy combat do you think he'd be there ? ) then you should stick to something you do know about ( watching T.V. , comic's etc ).

BTW a Tank without armor is called badly damaged , an artillery piece is called artillery - period ! A self-propelled gun/canon may look like a Tank to 'civvy's ' but is a self propelled gun it can motor along under it's own power to it's destination but then can only fire from a stationary position.

And the infantary behind the Tanks ? Well it's obvious they're not under threat ( as stated ) & if they were walking in front of Tanks they would probably get run over by them. Infantary are not big on brain power , that's why they're called grunt's the world over.

Over to you armchair General JarredDarque.

"Hamburger buckler- a shield made out of meat What does that have to do with anything, not a [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] thing. I'm not trying to start a flame war, but I think you guys suck at your job". Yeah we can't hold agro as well, we take a hit fine.

Zetnor welcome to the MMORPG hobby. Whil eI understand your reasoning, it is ususlly futile and counter productive to try to come in and redefine terms that, literally, hundreds of thousands of people have been using for almsot 12 years now.

Tanks is used as a conceptual descriptor. For any warrior who can keep a foes attention and is heavily armorer/tough to kill.

And ask any commander in any countery world wide what a tank is and they will reply: Heavy Armor.

Ha ha!

We started defining terminology and am now at it with the grammar! I love watching the insults fly.......

Settle the argument? -> Log into EQ2 combine a group of ANY player types and ONE Fighter type and then ask the question.....Who's Tank and watch the repsonse.

I think a proper way to settle the argument would be to take every single piece of military hardware and have it be shot at by every other piece of military hardware and see which one survives longest. That will be the new nomenclature for heavily armored fighter types. I don't mind being called a battleship honestly. Battleship Savik has a nice ring to it, does it not?

Message Edited by Savik on 05-17-2005 10:13 AM

To my mind if theres a Guardian about THEY can be main tank lol. Having said that I am level 29 and have grouped three times, twice I was the main tank given we had no Guardians - the other time we had a Guardian who INSISTED he was fine with a 2 hander (and he had no sword/board in inven anyway) - well he died because I sure couldn't taunt the nasty off him after he had taunted and smooshed it and was getting smacked bigtime himself. It would be nice to have taunts that are effective for just such an occasion
