<DIV>I believe the manastone is very much worth the effort provided you solo on the occasion.  I use the manastone a lot out of combat to better balance a 90 percent health/10 percent mana that often occurs after green double up mobs.  If you are using tier appropriate drink at the same time, it will greatly reduce your down time.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Likewise, I've been known to use  the manastone in an OT situation where most of the party is out of mana, I DO NOT have aggro and someone needs (usually the MT) a heal or the mob is hanging on by a thread, everyone is out of mana and melee is taking a bit to complete.  With my low cost training upgrade heal (which I plan to respec @ 50) I use 90 mana for a 499 heal compared to over 130 mana for a mid 500ish heal on adept 1 Devout Aid.  Using the manastone allows me to 1. heal myself back to almost exactly where I was on health before I used the stone and 2. have enough mana remaining to throw off my two biggest attacks if desired.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>CAUTION:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>It's usually a bad idea to use the manastone when you MT in a group while you're taking damage.  We all know from observation through the levels that green health tanks are hard to hit, yellow not as hard but still tough, low yellow to a touch or orange easy to hit and red you're almost dead.  Using the manastone when your health is out of the green is a formula for disaster since it will further drop your health and most likely lead to a quick mob beating.  I haven't compared the exact stats in several levels but the manastone usually takes around 600ish health for close to 300ish mana.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The rule of thumb I try to use is as follows:</DIV> <DIV>- soloing - use at the end of a battle to reduce downtime</DIV> <DIV>- grouping/MT- avoid using when MT'ing and let the healers do their job</DIV> <DIV>- grouping/OT - use it when group mana is low, you don't have aggro and need some more juice to finish off a mob or heal the MT.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I usually follow the above outline with the manastone, but depending on the situation I'll make a judgement call from time to time outside the norm.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I also enjoy doing heritage quests which includes the manastone, so for me it was a definite yes!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thanks,<BR>Kalen</DIV>

I don't know how I got by without my Manastone, it rules. You can never have enough power. <img src="http://home.comcast.net/~axp696/forumimages/smiley/banana.gif">

<DIV>Personally I use my manastone a lot when I am solo'ing green ^^ mobs in RiverVale or CT, etc...with Benediction (Adept 1) up, I don't really take much damage except from casters (which even then is takeable), and I like to burn through them as quick as I can...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Like stated above, I only do it when I am in the green, since a 690 damage in the yellow or orange could turn ugly if I get stunned or stiffled and can't heal.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The heritage quest is a lot easier now also, since you only need to have 1 person in your group have CoI access to kill Varsoon, since getting the named to spawn for CoI access was a loooooong process...especially since tons of people in there mid 20s to 30's level and quest in RoV.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Not to mention Varsoon likes to drop Master chests sometimes, which is always nice...our mage back in the day got a nice Fabled Chest piece with some awesome stats on it, plus the token Opal geode that drops a lot from him (or Feysteel, but it seems Everling drops Feysteel a lot more then Varsoon)... </DIV>

If you are tanking for a raid, the manastone can help  keep mana up so you can keep taunting, especially against mobs with power drains. <div></div>

<P>manastone is great and well worth using but there is a better power regen item for us paladins once u get very high lvl.......</P> <P> </P> <P>Screaming mace! this thing rocks, every proc gives me 302 power back, the agro reduction on it doesnt stop u tanking as u have so much power I can easily out taunt the effect yet when im not tanking i can constantly use specials and not get agro!</P> <P> </P> <P>the quest for it was hell, took me 3 weeks in total due to bad luck getting the last rare update but still well worthit as its probably the bet weapon i have to date my ebbc no longer gets used, oh and the mace is a 1 hander with 40dmg ratio for those that dont know.</P> <P> </P> <P>Steelle</P> <P>lvl 50 paladin</P>

<DIV>Can anyone post up a link to the Manastone & Screaming Mace quests? I've looked for the manastone quest, but apparently my searching skills are off. </DIV>

<P>More on the manastone here, from a 45 Conjuror (who will soon be creating a Paladin/Mystic duo).</P> <P>If you're grouped with a Templar who has Master 1 Intercession, the reactive from using the manastone will counter most of the damage. I normally group with a 46 Guardian/46 Templar 2-boxer, and the Templar has Intercession at Master 1. Manastone deals 690 damage to me, Intercession (which is triggered by the manastone) heals for 444. If I time manastone use to when I know Intercession is up, I only take around 250 damage (out of around 3k health).</P> <P>Even with adept1 or adept3 Intercession, a significant portion of manastone damage is instantly healed by the reactive. If you're paying close attention to the buffs on you, just watch for the Intercession icon to pop up, and use the stone.</P> <p>Message Edited by Jgok on <span class=date_text>05-17-2005</span> <span class=time_text>03:59 PM</span>

I'm a big fan of the PGT + Manastone combo (assuming health isn't immediately an issue). Adding ~450 power with ~150 damage after the PGT ward catches most of it... that's a LOT of Refusal of Graces/Sworn Strikes.

<DIV>The manastone is well worth the effort and even more so since the rares used for it have been "down tiered" to sparkling and common pelt. My manastone is always in the slot and i use it frequently when soloing, </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>The Manastone is a great tool for groups and raids, although if you are actually raid tanking, it can be dangerous to use. Also, once you get a screaming mace, power is generally not much of an issue (mob weapon resists aside). In a group situation its value is much greater as most group mobs have few hp.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>To digress on raid tanking, sometimes it is better just to use a statistic doll over the mana stone, especially if your guild is not short on an enchanter and a wizard or two. The only time I  use it while tanking x4's is when the mob is out of power. However, mobs like Udalan are a pain and possibly justify the dps spike risk (he has a nasty power/hp drain).</DIV>

<DIV>I actually use my manastone every downtime (right after the mob falls), which reduces downtime.   I will even use it as MT during a fight if a ward or reactive is about to fall with some power left.  Since I use more power than everyone else generally, this makes everyone's power levels about equal, and thus overall there is less waiting.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>One thing not mentioned is that the manastone is incredibly useful for a crafter, as well.  </DIV>

I have to say, telling someone not to use the manastone when you are the MT is a bit um, too careful.  Case in point, a templar friend and I decided we were going to take on undertow as a duo.  Undertow has a nasty power drain so to even begin to use a taunt in the first place or my heals I had to use the manastone in conjunction with my friend.  Her mana was being drained along side and we worked out the mana usage and sat there a good 30 minutes beating on undertow but in the end we took him out to much dismay several folks running past saying things such as do you need help and so on and we would kindfully just say we have him right where we want him. The key to using the manastone in combat as a MT is TIMING.  The more you try to take on the more you find your limits.  But using a blanket statement of don't use it as MT is very short sighted.  As I use it regularly as a MT.  Granted I use player made food and drink unlike most folks out there that use only drink.  And yes lots of folks still don't even use food with the stat bonuses they give are very nice.  PLUS it helps speed up mana regen as food help you heal the damage the manastone does to you.  Grathus 47 Paladin

<P>My recommendation for using the manastone while MT'ing was not to burn the stone while being hit or damaged outside the green on health (probably unclear on my intial post)  If you use the manastone, especially when the healers aren't prepared to help you out on very hard hitting mobs, the initial 600+ damage when you are already out of the green, say yellow, could place you in a situation where death is knocking on your door especially if healers are out of mana.</P> <P>In the end, it's always a judgement call on when to use and when not to use.  I used the manastone last night MT'ing nearly as fast as it would recast simply because my healer was top notch and mobs were having a difficult time healing.  If there was a question on my health that would make the situation dangerous, I would notify (was in Vent) that the manastone was incoming for power so the healer was ready.  It was never an issue using as MT with my last group.  However, a good rule of thumb on a pick up group outside of coordinated chat is to avoid using when health is out of the norm (yellow/orange) and healers are low or out of mana, since the intial damage could open you up to more hits and fast.  Remember, it's a rule of thumb not a law, and the what's the old saying about rules? <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P> <P>Thanks,<BR>Kalen</P>
