View Full Version : Relatively safe t5 foraging spots?

Mostly posting this because I'm tired of seeing that locked thread as the newest thread on the forum from the fighter's page. However, there is a legitimate question to be posed here. I have access to two t5 zones, Rivervale and Feerot. Anyone got any suggestions for harvesting spots without too many agrro/heroic mobs? Rivervale seems toughest...that bridge by the treant-like mobs to the right of the entrance is guarded by bandits, but there are a few nodes just across the bridge. Tons of nodes run the ridgeline down from that ridge, but they are all in close proximity to various types of Dryads...all aggro and heroic. Feerot seems to be safer, and least nibbling at the yard trach mobs from the path just off the beach, anyway....

I found it safer to harvest in Rivervale when I was a little lower in level (but at that time most mobs in Feerrott were aggressive). When in Rivervale I went right and moved towards the bees (near the loom). On top of the hill were some vale maidens and other dryads (non corrupted). Those are not aggro and harvestign nodes spawn on the hill where they stand. Be carefull that you don't go to far because on the other side of that hill are corrupted dryads which are agggressive casters. Nowadays I find it easier to harvest in Feerrott, more nodes and most mobs will not attack (because they con gray now)

I have always enjoyed harvesting and have always been in the very dangerous spots well before my combat level was ready to deal with the aggro nightmare. The key to harvesting nodes when your combat is sub par for the zone is PATIENCE!

I'm currently 47 Paladin/38 Jeweler, but during my heavy crafting days as 21 Paladin/38 Jeweler (yes I haven't crafted in months now, but plan too when I make 50 combat), I had to be very cautious when I harvested. I was in the Thundering Steppes skelly pits when everything was red, I was in the back of EL and Zek when everything was red and I was in Rivervale the day my skills broke 140.

I feel there are two nice ways to work nodes with my LEFT hand on the TAB key and my right hand on the mouse. If you use the left mouse button to pan around the screen, you may likewise use the right mouse button to move (hold both left and right mouse buttons down together). With a little practice, complete navigation in the game can be accomplished by holding down the left and right mouse buttons simultaneously. If you have a three button mouse (far left side button on my MS-Wheel Mouse), you may likewise jump without ever touching the keyboard. The trick is to constantly mash the tab key with your left hand to cycle through aggro mobs. This way you don't accidentally run up on a MOB. Take your time and move slowly and pay close attention panning continuously--even in the middle of a harvest.

The beauty of the latest changes regarding an aggro mob is that as long as you don't engage, the mob will NOT pursue you very far into the zone. I remember jogging half way across the zone at rollout to get away from a mob in East Antonica that the guards would have to kill in West Antonica! Now you run 100 yards/meters and aggro is over if you don't engage.

The other concept to keep in mind if you are harvesting something worth dying for like ore for ebon (crack rock), is that Paladins take the best beating when stationary--NOT running. If I'm hit, I try to heal or prepare for my getaway before I actually dart away from the mob. However, the first thing I do as I move from the mob is to place our DOF line on myself to absorb partial damage as I run. As soon as I cast, I click the icon again so it auto casts as soon as available so no downtime on the ward during the retreat. Our DOF line works on the move!

As I edged into my low 40's in Rivervale, I started noticing that I could stand in the middle of thief, brigands, rats, etc. with honestly 5-9 mobs aggroing me and as long as I didn't move too much they struggled to hit me (were green cons to me), just be careful when you move not to train mobs on someone else even though that's been addressed pretty well now with the mob reset after aggro.

If you are a die-hard harvester and are low level, you ARE going to die sometimes harvesting. Some mobs will lock you down and some casters will eat you alive with one or two hits. The trick as I stated before is caution, quality navigation, patience and moving around to avoid aggro. I have worked between the Nymphs and Dryads in Rivervale for up to an hour back when they were yellow con mobs and never drawn aggro. I'm not claiming uberness. I'm claiming patience. It's also a good idea to keep in mind the arrow keys will back you up if something is approaching from the front. I have completely circled a mob that was moving and stolen their resource out from under their feet and left without calling attention to myself. Personally, I get satisfaction when I know the mob could hand it to me and I successfully stand just inches from aggro range and harvest all their nodes

With all that said, a mid 40's pally is going to be able to harvest almost all the way to Cazic-Thule with gray mobs, so wander as you will to harvest. At 46, everything in Rivervale prior to the bridges is gray. The scarecrow field contains 1-2 green con dogs and a few puppet casters, but if you travel to the back stick to the roads, keep going and circle back later if you draw aggro and you'll do just fine. The person that mentioned crossing the bridge in Rivervale but running into the brigands ... you are capable of jumping in the water by moving around the Dryads and coming up on the other side, watch the fish, but they are low con usually and solo mobs.

Good luck with your rares!
Kalen

Rivervale seems to have more "safe" spots to harvest. There are not always nodes in these areas, but they will pop.

Ferrott becomes easier around level 44 to 46 as everything starts to con gray. I do not enjoy harvesting in Ferrott though... All the trees / roots makes it hard to see the nodes.

I haven't harvested a rare in either Ferrott or Rivervale, but I have harvested 3 rares from Everfrost

I find it easier to harvest in Feerot...less aggro/heroic mobs to dodge. But the zone is majorly borked with unharvestable nodes popping in trees. Worse, it is not consistent. Sometimes you can harvest a node partiially "inside" a tree, other times you can't harvest a node completely outside of, but very close to, a palm tree. Agree that nodes are hard to see in Feerot...well, the ore/stone nodes anyway. No problem spotting animal dens. Those things are huge. Harvested my first T5 rare there last night...a superb quality manticore pelt. Sssshh. Nobody tell Blackweb. He doesn't think that's possible. Also gained about 40% exp in 4 hours, and dinged 39.
