How and what do you use a "penintent essence" for? It popped up in my inventory and I am clueless.

Thanks,

Cas

Penitent Essences are a by product of having the buff Blessing of the Penitent - theres a small chance one will be created each time you are struck. There use will become apparent in a few levels - we get a self heal that consumes a pentitent essence, called Penitent Sacrament. So, start saving them up.

True, but the heal can be used on anyone in your group. Not just yourself.

Are you sure? The spell has a yellow backdrop which usually mean self only. Might have to go test this out.

Yup it's only self heal, what I dislike is the Self-Heals are crappy for saving your bacon. Penitent Sacrament is fairly good but I hate the long re-use timer (just how things are..not complaining too much but the Blessing of the Penitent HP buff creates them way too infrequently, I would like to see Sony increase the amount created to the same level as Devout Sacrament. Now Blessing of the Devout creates the stones like crazy and after a nights battle you end up with like 200. The only problem is, the long cast timer. This heal takes nearly twice as long as Penitent Sacrament and has a higher potential to be interrupted. Now I can understand a fast heal but a slow heal which you are praying to God that it will save you only to be interrupted at the end of the cast...it's almost ridiculous! For a spell that uses the same line, this is unfair. Is it bugged or meant to be like that?

A good strategy to follow, especially during solo encounters, is to use your sacrement (penitent or devout depending on your level) as your last heal prior to mana exhaustion. The sacrement will heal you for 2x - 3x more then the aid line of healing. It is true there is a 10 minute recast timer, but if you're in bad enough shape to use the spell, it's likely you'll have downtime to regen power and health further reducing the recast time.

I infrequently used this spell in the past. Prior to a few patches the penitent line was difficult to acquire essences. That's been fixed so it's not a big deal. These puppies stack 50 high so I usually try to keep one 1/2 stack on hand. When I dip below 25, I will face a difficult mob and cast my blessing to rebuild the stack. Unfortunately, it's a little hog wild now. I had 23 the other night from never casting my blessing so I used it several times in Cazic-Thule and later noted nearly two full stacks.. lol I see it's gone from difficult to obtain an essence to having so many you might want to give away a few or bank some for whatever reason. At level 47 my devout sacrement is healing for slightly over 1,100 points at adept 1.

Thanks,

Kalen

Also, if you have a manastone, using Penitent or Devout Sacrament helps to ensure efficiency when soloing. You still have the proper tier lay on hands for emergency heals (which is better since LoH has no cast timer). Another I have noticed is that you do not need the essences in your inventory. Simply having them in the bank is enough. However, I miss the days when these sold for 83c to the vendor. I have destroyed countless stacks of Devout Essences.

I remember on Najena having about 8 or 9 penitent essenses in my 20's when they were hard to come by in the past and checking the broker and seeing them from 50 silver to no less then 15 silver each... lol

I had no clue they used to sell to city merchants. I can see it now .. run around naked, cast a spell, take a beating, make coin. Reminds me of the South Park episode based on the underwear gnomes 1. steal underwear, 2. ?, 3. make profits

Thanks,
Kalen
