My impression is they hold agro better and we last longer because of wards/self heals etc. I dont know how effective their life taps are though. Agro is pretty broken atm so I would think they technically edge a pally out as mt right now, at the same time it sounds like they will be less defensive with the coming patches which could mean anything.

You should really hold off deciding till the combat changes go live.

Till then it wouldn't hurt to make one of each class and just test em out abit.

As it stands now, SK's are slightly more offensive and better at soloing whereas Paly's are slightly more defensive. Aggro sucks for everyone in that Crusaders simply have to work much harder than Guardians to keep a similar level of aggro (but yes it can be done).

The upcoming changes will *allegedly* follow the same path, but will advance the differentiation a little farther.

p.s. Our lifetaps work quite nicely over time (since they are procs AND do dmg to the target as well as self healing)

It might prove difficult to adaquately test both Paladins and Shadow Knights starting from scrath prior to the combat revamp. Both professions are virtually identical through the first 20 levels which might require time to achieve as you'll have to build 40 levels of two characters before you notice much difference.

I would recommend visiting http://eq2.ogaming.com and comparing skills/abilities/spells of each profession to determine which fits your play style best. Both professions have pros and an equal number of cons, but both are good tanks and have a lot to offer.

Thanks,
Kalen

In the end it really comes down to: Do you want to be "eeeeevil" or "goody-two-shoes" - one side gets more suupporting spells (such as heals) and the other gets more evil and slimy spells (disease).
