<DIV>I'm nearly a Paladin, about a 5 bubs short at this point and have played tanks in just about every MMO out there at one point so I have a good idea how to manage aggro. So this morning I was playing with a Predator and a Cleric and we just had all kinds of trouble. It's my first bad mojo experience in EQ2 so I am trying to figure out what I did wrong. Several times the predator would sneak in and do a high damage attack before I could establish aggro. At that point I had a hell of a time trying to get it back. I tried shield slam, enflame, shout and cry of conviction with limited success. Up until this incident, I have never had trouble in EQ2. So I guess the question is (maybe this should be directed in the predator forum) do predators have DoTs or other times of really hate generating attacks that are hard to off-set?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Incidentally, up to this point I have had the best success duoing with either a guardian or a druid. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Cas</DIV>
preditors are just high dmg classes ask them to hold off on their high dmg attack untill u have created some hate, their high dmg attack does same dmg 10secs after fight starts as it does right at the begining. At lvl 44 predators have never given me a real problem keepin agro off, just taunt more than lower dmg classes, but zerkers are hell to keep agro off. you might have to ask people to hold off on doing major dmg untill u have fired u tuants and such <div></div>

<DIV>I'm sure i've mentioned this before but i feel its always 50/50 responsibility between the tank (assume you) and each individual player in the group.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Sure if you are a wizard or indeed a scout and blast away at the first sight of a mob then you will lose aggro to them, this you shouldn't worry about as it is there responsibility to appreciate your abilities and wait until you attain full aggro.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>There are countless threads on peoples choices on spell order when they initiate an encounter. Just try and make sure you dont run out of power and upgrade your weapons/armour and spells (especially taunts) as much as possible.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Good Luck...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>50 pally Ach</DIV>

A few thoughts from a 28 Paladin who also has run into aggro issues. 1. Don't forget that wards and buffs generate aggro. Consider casting them after the pull to generate aggro rather than before. I usually pull and then ward. 2. If you are tanking, make everyone wait for a few seconds before launching in on the mob after you pull. This gives you time to do some taunting/etc. before the big damage throwers grab all the aggro from you. If you find yourself fighting to keep the aggro at the beginning of the battle, you will likely lose it before the end. 3. If you are not tanking, ward the tank BEFORE the pull, otherwise you will likely grab the aggro from him. 4. If you are tanking, focus on aggro-generating abilities over damage-dealing ones. Your job is NOT to damage the mob, it is to take damage FROM the mob. This is one of the hardest lessons to learn. It is the job of the rest of your group to kill the mob while you keep the mob focused on you. <div></div>

If you loose the agro there is no better wa to gain it back than to thow out your ward. - when your target suddenly gets on implied (i.e. you've lost agro) hit your ward A.S.A.P. Not only will it guard against a single attack (perhaps 2) allwoign healers to... well stop healign themselves,m it also acts as a bit hate magent. Ward and taunt and the mob comes runnign back - sometimes without even a blow being landed on whoever got the agro. Its a shame really... this is the only time our ward is any useful. <div></div>

I duo with ranger we are in the upper 20's and have been together since about level 16. I generally nuke pull, ward run HO with inflame (adept 1) at that point she is set and firing away, from then on i cycle infame every few passes of of my specials. Occassionally she will get bow happy and get agro before i inflame, usually 1 inflame and I get it back. When we get larger groups I will cycle blinding light through the fight to make sure I retain agro on the adds. I just cant say enough of how good this duo works. We have done things that I got wiped while trying to do in a 4 group of healer and 3 tanks. But a point was made, anytime you loose agro and you are trying, check the habits of the group and make sure they are aware of your system and abide by it. A good group will consist of people who know their roles and how they relate to the roles of others.

You probably fall into a rhythm when you pull. Everyone does it different... Cast a long range attack, kick off and HO, cast another long range, finish HO w/ a powerful taunt, auto attack, buff, then.... (What ever your steps are, just an example), Click one more hot key.... Your GTG, or NUKE Away hot key.... Make a /g macro to let everyone in your group know that you have aggro. We all should have a pull macro by now, so this isn't such a hard ship. When in a pickup group with peeps you don't know, this is a must. Let them all know before hand to hold off until they see the Spam in /g to attack. You will only have to do it a few times, as everyone will then fall into a rhythm. As a tank, you are the leader, it's up to you to make the engine run smooth. <div></div>

<DIV>i, pull with spell, sometimes ward myself otw back, complete an HO with smite prayer for some nice divine debuffage. then clarion call once and use Taunt the rest of the time, cheap and seems to keep hate up enough once you are established. its also a lot harder to take agro (after the initial) than it is to keep it for some reason. like a warlock is nuking and you are being lazy, and after 5 or 6 you lose agro finally. then you taunt like 10 times and still cant get it back, after the warlock has stopped casting isnt gaining anymore hate. so make sure you land a taunt before they land a nuke/stealth attack.</DIV>
