Is there anything planned to have squires join the fight? As you probably already know, squires were knights in training, and therefore should be able to lend a hand, sword, etc during battle. Only makes sense.....

When I get my squire I will make him hold my Drink while I fight.

I have spilled many a good Ale while trying to juggle a sword and shield.

/sigh

Till then I guess a sippy cup is in order.

On another note though. I can here the yell's from the other classes that our squire is helping and no longer a fluff spell.

I have heard and read that the squire has taken some aggro in fights, though I have not seen this first hand.

Does the squire you summon appear as the same race as the caster?

Majorminor, the squire does not take aggro, ever. However if the squire is hit by an aoe attack, he/she will draw their weapon but do nothing.

The best use for your squire is to cast "Ageis of hope" on him, saying that though... it is a fluff spell. but less fluffy and more leathery.

I have read several good threads on a wish list for the squire.

I would highly support the concept of having the squire serve as a battlefield "mender."

Even if the cost was 2x or 3x the norm or possibly free when used in a group environment with the ability for the whole party to take advantage of the services.

Thanks,

Kalen

Thanks for the bit of backing Miracole.

I wasn't trying to imply that the squire DID tank, just that I had read, that on a few occasion's, it had.

I don't ever plan on it to happen, nor will I pull multiple mobs and try to get my squire to tank.

Was just saying what several others had posted about happeing to them.

Aye, I have had several times in which my squire drew his or her sword and glared menacingly at the mob, but that is about it. That is in fact what propmted me to start this thread. I appreciate all the feedback and who knows, maybe SOE will see this thread and make changes allowing our squires to join the fight. Think of the options you might have - 1. No problems getting a duo group (you and your squire) 2. You could dress him/her up... In my case ... her..... man is there a lingerie shop in Qeynos somewhere? 3. Not to mention you would then be buying for 2 making the game more interesting... All that light/medium stuff you might win would now have more of a use than the merchants. Other races/classes have "pets" and they seem to fight well. How hard would it really be to allow our squires to fight? Come on SOE...

I have seen my squire take aggro (briefly) a bunch of times. It is no doubt a bug and unintended, but that doesn't mean it can't possibly happen.

SanJun, did you say you called the squire to cast Aegis of Hope on yourself? I am in my mid 30s and cast this on myself while soloing or out of combat all of the time.
Message Edited by Hawgeous on 04-26-2005 09:43 AM

On more than one occassion my squire has taken agro off me while I was soloing multiple mobs at a time. He has decent HP too ...allowing it to be rather useful at times.

Hey, Jgok here... not a paladin yet... but I will be once I get a frog.

I have seen squires actually attack mobs before. They appear to be the same type of non-controllable pet that a wizard has, and there are also many documented cases of wizard pets attacking mobs, and in some cases, even taking aggro. It usually only happens when mob AEs are involved (but not every time the pet is hit by an AE), and seems more likely to happen when you're facing a broken encounter.

Hawgeous,

You read my post correctly. I can not cast Aegis of Hope unless I select a group member or my squire. I get the notorious message "You are not in a group." To overcome, I call my squire and then cast. I have tried an array of solutions to work this out solo to no avail.

Are you doing anything special with targeting, etc. to cast the spell on yourself solo? I'll try it again tonight as they could have made a change that I didn't realize.

Thanks,

Kalen

Nope, nothing special, just hit F1 to target myself and then cast away.

I am a Lv.42 Paladin and i say that a Squire should not be allowed to attack and should only be cosmetic. Id be dumb to have something like that.

Valian - 42 Paladin - Unrest

Message Edited by Valian164 on 04-28-2005 03:51 PM

I've tried finding a pic of a squire but had no luck, can anyone post a screenshot of one? I'm looking forward to have a young human female chase me around. :smileyvery-happy:

I use my squire mostly when I feel lonely during the nights I spend in trader mode. It gives me somebody to talk to while I stare at the door of my room hoping to see a customer walking in.

I dunno if anyone played eq1 or remembers from eq1, but enchanters got pets that all they could do was follow them around, and look stupid(it was a floating shield and sword) but if the pet itself got attacked it would attack back, not too sure why I just thought that SoE made enchanters pets have a handicap to make Mage's pets better so naturally I just assumed that it was the same with our squires, I have seen my squire get hit by a mob AoE and draw his sword and stare at a mob, but I have never seen damage appear from the squire or it get agro however...........

Heres a picture of my squire at the time. Each time you cast the spell the gender changes, but the armor is the same. SK's ones have different armor. They dont join in the fight with any damage. Truthfully ive told

it too attack on many occasions, but cant get it to, dont know why. But it looks kinda cool i guess.

Message Edited by Valian164 on 05-02-2005 10:43 PM

I always felt all spells should have a use, however small. (Like the now 8% faster Paladin horse.) Totally useless have
the tendency to be used a few days for fancy and then vanish. I think if all "fancy" spells where granted a small use, there
would be no harm.

Most important for me is, that the Squire is random and I have no influence on him. I would like to see:

a) A fixed name like for the house pets.

b) I can chose gender, race & facial appearance at least one time (like on character creation). Or
at least a big group of selectable faces to chose from.

Those generic always changing names and persona are crap.

Oh, and can someone tell me, why a totally (or nearly totally) useless spell has a 20 minutes timer??? Either make
the Squire like summoners pets or drop timer!
