View Full Version : My one complaint about the Paladin class.

<DIV>Let me preface: I LOVE the EQ 2 Paladin. I love that we do respectable damage. I love that we are good tanks. I love that we are usefull in a group with our buffs and heals/runes, aggro steals and protection skills. We stack well with other tanks and work well as assist tanks and squishie guardians when not the main assist in a group. I think the class is, over all, very balanced and thoroughly enjoyable.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now for my complaint: We don't stack well with OTHER Paladins in a group at higher levels. I found this out last night. A level 35 Paladin and myself (level 32) were duoing in TS near the giant chief to finish up some quests and none of my combat arts that had a dot component would even FIRE on a target if he had used his already.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Oath Strike would not even execute. It simply said target was invalid. He had already used his on it and therefore I could not use my lower level one until his dot portion ended. This was the same with Implacable Wrath and Holy Sunder with it's dot effect as well.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>And these attacks are our more power efficient, heavy hitting attacks.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Additionally I could not even use Aegis of Hope on him. He used his on me and since he did the 'recourse' effect blocked it working on him. Later we grouped with a warden and he put it on her and I was unable to use mine on either of them.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now I will admit I seldom group with other tanks but have never had an issue like this until now. Does this occurs when grouping with Guardians or Berserkers?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Mind you I could work around the limitation by shifting to a more defense oriented play style with healing and warding, but it still put a crimp in the play.</DIV>

<P>Loads of pallies in my guild and this happens a lot, basically any skill with a dot or stat increase/decrease wont fire until the other one has expired. Shatter will is another art that springs to mind. Annoying but I dont know what happens when other classes choose to group with ppl from the same class, I`m assuming they run into the same problems?</P>

Other classes do run into same problems, one thing is if you group with another of the same class quite regularly,  preferably teh same person (s) then work something out so that you can switch hit basically,  i.e.  have it odwn so that you both can use oath strike when yours is up, as it will be completely opposite each other.    Faster attacks like the two handed DOT, you cant exactly do that with though, but one of you should be using a shield anyways....well  you said yall wehre killing giants at lvl 32 and 35, so neither of you would need one...but you get the point. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

<DIV> </DIV> <DIV> It is true. I had major difficulty at first grouping with the another higher level Paladin in my guild because of the limited stacking issues. Oath Strike obviously comes to mind. Our Wrath DoT as well. She and I can usually find a way to alternate, but to be brutally honest, a two tank group is going to be -far- more effective having  tanks of different classes. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> In some situations diversity simply pays off; and if it's a trade off for our flexibility as a class in general, I'm more than willing to pay the price. </DIV>

<div></div>Whats even worse is if you manage to cast it as the same time,  yours will not only not stick,  but the timer does not reset so you have to wait out the 30 seconds to recast.  Grouped with another paladin a level or two higher and I swear to god we had almost the exact same timing on our attacks,  it was kinda spooky.  He was probably getting annoyed like I was <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> It took forever for them to fix dot / debuff stacking in eqlive,  I imagine its going to take the same small eternity to get it fixed here <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> 17 <div></div>
