Well, you can use pristine Feyiron before you can use the Orc marauder. Myself I bought a full set of pristine feyiron and will replace them with pieces of Orc as I get them and get up to the point where I can use them.

I would say the feyiron. All the pieces of orc marauder armor I have seen have had only + braod spectrum resists (unless I am thinking of the wrong armor), no bonus health or power or any stats. Plus the armor class was comparable but still lower than the feyiron.

So it would seem to me that they feyiron would be a better choice. If you can at all afford it get the imbued chest and legs. Well, well worth the bonus cost.

I should ding 30 real soon so this is of interest to me also. I would say that Pristine Feyiron with the new imbues for the chest and pants slot.

I don't think orc Marauder comes with +attribute stats... only resists. .On that point alone I woudl go with pristine forged feyiron, I believe orc marauder trades +atribute stats for increased resists.

Some of the orc gear does indeed have stats. Its comparable to pristine feyiron when it comes to stats and hps and ac, but is generally lower on power. I see alot of tanks being pretty effective while wearing it, so if its all you can afford or find, it will serve you just fine until you can get a replacement.

17

The main differences between Pristine Forged Feyiron Vanguard pieces, and Orc Marauder plate pieces, are the maximum growth range for the mitigation, and the amount of health you receive from a suit of the armor.

Orc Marauder plate armor will max out at level 35, it has slightly higher maximum mitigation than your level 20+ quest armor pieces, and every piece I've seen has a good amount of direct health, as well as a good amount of stamina (which results in even more health). However, it also tends to have very low direct power values, though this can be offset by the added strength on some pieces of the armor.

Pristine Forged Feyiron Vanguard armor has more general stat increases, that are typical on most generic or forged armor pieces. That is, you get a well rounded range of stat increases, from STR to INT to WIS, many of which you would deem entirely unimportant to a Fighter. More importantly, however, the mitigation on the Feyiron armor will continue to grow to level 40, and will be consistantly higher on all pieces after level 35, while the total health gained from a suit of the armor (direct health + stamina increase) will generally be lower.

So, it all comes down to a few decisions to see which is best for you. Orc Marauder armor is generally cheaper and more common, by a large margin. Orc Marauder armor has a very limited growth range; required level 31, maximum level 35. Orc Marauder armor has consistantly lower mitigation on all pieces, comperable to that of the level 20+ quest armors; do you really want to be wearing the equivalent of your quest armor at level 35? Orc Marauder armor has consistantly higher direct health values, and instead of the well-rounded stat increases, you mainly get strength and a *lot* of stamina, which results in even more health. Forged Feyiron armor will give you substantially more mitigation in the high 30s, and it will max out at level 40, when you will be able to start wearing tier 5 armor.

Which do you value more: mitigation, or health? Forged Feyiron has higher mitigation, Orc Marauder armor has higher health. How much can you afford to spend on your armor?: Forged Feyiron typically has a set minimum cost due to fuel and components required, while Orc Marauder armor merely costs the life of an Orc and not fuel, so it's cost is generally dictated by how much it will sell to NPC vendors (50-70 silver). How often do you plan on upgrading your armor?: Orc Marauder armor probably wins out from 31 to 35 due to the substantially larger health increases, while Forged Feyiron probably wins out from 35 to 39 due to the substantially higher mitigation values.

If you simply need something reasonably cheap that's not grey, to last you for a few levels after 30, while you try to make some money for further upgrades, then Orc Marauder armor is probably the way to go. If you have the money available, and you want something that's going to last from 30 to 39 at least, then Forged Feyiron is probably the way to go. If you do choose to buy the Orc Marauder armor and use it during the early 30's, don't forget that you can still sell it to an NPC vendor for a decent chunk of change, to help you upgrade to something better later on. Or, you can stash your Orc Marauder armor away, and just wear it on your level 35-40ish raids where you're not going to be the main tank; this way, you spend less at the mender because the armor is of lower quality, and if you're not the one taking hits on the raid, you need health way more than you need mitigation anyway.
