<DIV>I am looking for a tanking, yet soloing class and have come down to Paladin or Guardian. Now I ask nobody get offensive as I am not seeing one is better than the other its just what I or other people prefer. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>A few questions....</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1) We both can equip exactly the same type of armors right?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>2) From some of you guys experiences, which class can solo better? I understand Paladins get heals but Guardians have a lot of nice abilities as well...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>3) Some comments on the key differences between these two classes please?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>4) Some comments on the specific advantages of each class would be nice...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have already compared both of the forums and abilities and I still cannot decide so any opinions from you guys would be appreciated. I have been a level 50 Paladin in World of Warcraft just to add that bit in here.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG>I basically want a tanking focused class with the best soloing experience possible, I usually am on at awkward hours so I will be soloing except when its a necessity to group</STRONG></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thanks</DIV>

<P>1) Yes</P> <P>2) From my experience I can solo</P> <P>3) Erm... Holy knight vs footsoldier ?</P> <P>4) The advantages are not real advantages mostly sequels form EQ1, but i won't go deep in the details,</P> <P>Guardian: people will see you as the MT in the group (nothing else. they think you are good old warrior from EQ1)</P> <P>Paladin: you still can find a group even if the MT spot is already filled</P>

<P>Pally is awfull good in solo - because of the healing capacity and the hvy armor you can wear and the upper weaponry (except the piercing weapons - but that is another discussion).</P> <P>I solo'd my old pally to lvl 43 - the only quests where grouping is necessary are the quests which gives you entrance to certain parts of the world (eg ZEK, EL etc.).</P> <P>But - to be honest - I started a new pally just to do a lot more quests (also new ones); and for some quests - to get the best xp - you need to group.</P> <P> </P> <P>It's up to you.</P> <P> </P>

<P>1) yes except guardians get Tower shields, paladins get Kite shields.</P> <P> </P> <P>2) Paladins are awesome at solo we have so many nice little tricks that makes it a lot easier for us than guardians.</P> <P> </P> <P>3) Key diffences....well we get a lower selection of of weapons, cant dual wield, cant use piercers or staffs. we have more "support skills than guardians" our taunt is not as powerful as guardians but works fine all the same. </P> <P> </P> <P>4) Guardians advantage is that they lose a little less life every hit from mob than we do, Paladin advantage we lose a little more life but can heal a whole lot more to beat the difference, basically Guardians are probably best big mob group tank, Paladins are more versatile, better soloers and better in mixed non standard set up groups, I regularly trio with illusionist, ranger and me, notice no healer, and we can do stuff that ive watched same lvl groups die too, and we have all we need, i can heal myself and my team which in turn helps me hold agro off em all.</P> <P> </P> <P>Steelle</P> <P>Kithicor</P>

<DIV>Thanks guys, it seems the Everquest 2 Paladin is nearly the same as the World of Warcraft Paladin. Of course its not exactly the same but I really loved my Paladin in WoW and I think it will be another good spot for me in EQ 2.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Much Appreciated!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Regards</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<div></div>I've some questions as well. I'm getting a little bored of monk. (Too much Kung Fu stuff for me hehe) (I played a Paladin in EQoA, I know it's alot different here but the roleplay is fun) -How are Paladins offensively? -As a paladin do you find your self in groups all of the time, or sitting around LFG? -And do you constantly have to buff your self? (I'm kind of looking for an off-tank class, a class that can hold their own in battle and not have to get heals spammed on him) Thanks <span>:smileyhappy:</span> <div></div><p>Message Edited by Trojake on <span class=date_text>04-08-2005</span> <span class=time_text>09:36 PM</span>

<DIV> I've some questions as well. I'm getting a little bored of monk. At lvl 25 or so, you have 2 or 3 good nukes and at lvl 28 you get our uber-damage spell, Oath Strike. I'm lvl 32 now, and with Oath Strike App III I do 260-310 divine damage and 25-35 physical damage. A paladin can fool you. Blink at the wrong time and you might miss some heavy damage, but in the end, we are still damage soakers.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>2) I group fairly regularly and don't really have a problem. People in the game have different opinions on Pallies and their abilities, but I've never had much trouble. Usually it's 10 or 15 min. before I find a decent group.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>3) I rarely use my combat buffs on myself (by this I mean wards, 2 min armor increases, etc) unless I'm up against a real chalange. To be honest, the combat buffs we have are great but use a considerable amount of power. Not worth it to constantly buff yourself. Also, with decent armor, healing yourself when soloing is usually kept to a minimum (with obvious exceptions). Our permanent and 15 min buffs are nice when you reach the higher levels (Divine Inspiration, Prayer of Devotion, etc.)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>-On a side note, I love the versatility of my paladin. So far, I've filled the role of MT, off-tank, back-up tank, DPS, and once I've been THE healer (this was tough, wouldn't recommend it, will never do it again....).</DIV><p>Message Edited by ChuMann on <span class=date_text>04-09-2005</span> <span class=time_text>10:51 AM</span>

Oath Strike is awesome. With it I am soloing level 30-31 Orcs in Zek and I'm 29 right now. AWESOME ability. <div></div>

Couple things: -- In a Raid, a Guardian will always be the MT if there is a same level Paladin in the raid. Personally I can solo fine, and just this last level I hit more then 50% of it (L41) pure solo, but it takes much longer then in a group at this level. Since you are looking at the Heavy armor tank class, here is my rundown of them: Most Offense Minded: 1) Berzerker 2) Paladin 3) Guardian Most Defensive Minded: 1) Guardian 2) Paladin 3) Berzerker As you can tell, the Paladin is pretty much the middle group for both, and it works well for them. Granted Oath strike is a good ability, and our next massive damage spell Refusal of Grace does even more DPS wise (since its a 20 sec recast, instead of 30), but as you get up higher, mobs are going to take much more time to solo then other classes can as a tank. BTW - Mana, try your luck with some higher mobs also....at L30 I was soloing red single mobs in EL <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />.....now into my 40's I can still solo yellow and orange solo mobs, but my belief is L40-42 are 'hell' levels... Since the higher end Tier 5 zones (Lavastorm, Everfrost) are where you will be from 42-50. <div></div>
