<DIV> <DIV>well i've been planning on a pally but i've heard some bad things about them. I usually pick a fighter of some type and i've had a few healers because i like healing and buffing but i always deleted them because i wanted to get more involved in the up close action and i heard that pallys can heal and tank(and do some good damage too) but i've heard that their a pretty bad class to play. So i was wondering if someone could tell me what pallys are all about and if their a good class for what i want to play from people who have played them and other fighter classes(oh and they can heal other people too right?)</DIV></DIV>

actually, i have a 40 mage and id like to see what the "other side" meaning tanks, is like. my personal choice is between a SK or paladin...im leaning towards paladin because of the heals, but i saw a 42 SK soloing blue/white (some were yellow to me) blightrats in RV...can paladins do this?

<P>Its true, we can solo red crap. It takes me all I got in power and health but it can be done using heals and wards effectively and the fact that some of our attacks also provide a slight heal. For the record this is not something we or at least I do on a regular basis but yes it can be done. I'd say I am victorious vs a red con 75% of the time.</P> <P>Pally rocks, who ever said it was a bad class to play doesn't know what they are talking about.</P>

<DIV>I just posted the server stats on my server msg boards(neriak). it is a newer server, but paladins had like 580 players, while brigands had less than 100, so there is obviously some appeal there.  The thing is, only 3 of the paladins were lvl 50, while berserkers and guardians had 8 each with less players.  I don't play a paladin, so you can take that stat as you will.  Maybe the horse gets boring after a while, maybe they aren't as effective at high lvls, who knows, just something to consider when you are making your character.</DIV>

<DIV>As a level 41 paladin I can solo some of the blightrat group mobs in RV, the ones that con green to me. I can solo the blue ones also but it usually is a close fight and not worth the effort and downtime. When soloing in RV I stick to the group bandit and brigand mobs. I can easily solo two single up arrow mobs and two solo mobs at the same time (I tend to aggro some of the rabid hounds while pulling the group mobs). As for soloing solo mobs, paladins can solo red con ones but it's probably not worth the trouble, yellow con mobs are easier and you get the same xp. As with all mobs how easily they can soloed depends on the mob itself. Melee mobs are the easiest while spellcasters are tougher. Take the faerie mobs in EL for example, a level 37 spellcaster mob can do some serious damage when it hits with Nill Distortion twice in 30 seconds for 1k damage a hit while the melee mob in the same group is barely scratching.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>While grouping I don't see a difference between paladins and guardians but for raiding it sounds like guardians are the way to go for MT, but not having been on a high end raid yet I can't speak from personal experience.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As for the horse spell, it's a fluff spell and provides no real benefit, just a 10% speed boost. Save up for a real horse.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Personally I love playing my pally character while my fighter hasn't made it past level 17 after 4 months and druid past level 15. I just started a mage toon and that's looking like fun but not enough fun to detract from level my paladin.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Paladins have some heals, nothing too strong but a nice supplement if your healer is OOP, if you do not have a healer in the group, or you are soloing. Paladins get a few ranged nuke spells and a couple of spells that do DOTs. Paladins don't get a high damage attack until level 28 and that attack is used until level 42 so it's a good canidate for for upgrading to Adept 3. Paladins also get a ward spell. After level 30 I pretty much thought of it as a one hit wonder, as in it's good for one hit then it's gone but it does help build some aggro.</DIV> <DIV>So a paladin gets a mix of abilities. They can buff themselves and group members, heal when needed to, act as main tank or main assist, and can dish out some decent damage when not worrying about maintaining aggro.</DIV>

<DIV>Palis do well but magic users can eat you up at times. You have to know your enemies.  I personally like the variety that a pali brings to the game. (including the cow we ride)</DIV>

<P>started a paly a few weeks ago and i LOVE him,due to not much time to play though hes only lvl 24 or so but i have more fun with him than any other class i've played, they have a great balance for soloing and there great in groups, since i dont have much time to play each time i get on sometimes its nice to just run around w/o a group and since you can heal yourself it does reduce the downtime a bit if you have good drinks, all in all though i think there a great class to play decent heals the ward spell is nice for a while the healing atks are great, i chose the class skill one and it helps keep your hp up and its power cost isnt to high so its effiecent which helps keep the healer in your group happy, you can do some nice emergency heals in case of the odd chance you loose agro which doesnt happen to often for me (only to some wizzys with adept1-3 spells). paladins can adept well to groups either being the MT or dishing out some good dmg and can support the healers if there not doing to well.</P> <P>and whoever told you a pally is a bad class to play is probly just mad that we get a horse that sucks anyway (although it is funny to make your horse disapear while on the griffon and look like your floating <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P>
