View Full Version : How do you have your hotkeys laid out?

I have a hard time deciding on how to arrange my hotkeys so that I group similar spells/abilities together, but make my most commonly used buttons most easily accessible. I use the keyboard almost exclusively to trigger my hotkeys (and I have an MS Natural keyboard [ergonomic]), so I like my most commonly used buttons to be where I can press them with my left hand in normal typing position --> on [1 - 6], Ctrl + [2 - 5], and Alt + [1 - 5] (with Ctrl and Alt those are just the easiest keys to hit, doing it with one hand). I'm wondering if you others have your hotkey banks divided up into "regions" where you put similar spells, if you find it unwieldy to try to use hotkey bars that aren't showing (switch your bars depending on what you're doing), etc. Thanks. <div></div>

<DIV>This layout has worked really well for me.  Heals on the left side near people's names for easy mouse movement.  Buffs on top for the same reason.  High damage attacks on 1st bottom row.  Stuns on left side, HO, damage skills/spells, then taunts.  Bottom row has the lowest power consuming spells to flip HOs quickly when drained.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><IMG src="http://eq2images.station.sony.com/000/000/560/185.jpg"></DIV>

<div></div>I lean towards the "grid" philsophy myself, as I tend to use my mouse to "click" the actions rsather than hotkey everything.so 4 hotbars (I used to have 3 but had to expand to 4) stacked on the bottom right of the screen.<font face="Courier New"><font color="#666666">x x x x x x</font><font color="#666666"> </font><font color="#666666">x x x x x x</font> <font color="#ff00ff">B B B B B B</font> <font color="#ff00ff">B</font> <font color="#666666">x x</font> <font color="#cc0000">H H H</font> <font color="#ffffff">I</font> <font color="#6666ff">N N N N</font> <font color="#ccff00">K</font> <font color="#ffff00">O</font> <font color="#666666">x x</font> <font color="#cc6600">W</font> <font color="#666666">x</font> <font color="#ccff00">K</font> <font color="#ffccff">A</font> <font color="#cc9900">T T</font> <font color="#666666">x x</font> T <font color="#ccffff">M M M M M M</font></font><font color="#ccffff"> </font><font face="Courier New"><font color="#ccffff">M</font> <font color="#666666">=</font> </font>Melee attacks<font face="Courier New"><font color="#ffccff">A</font> <font color="#666666">= </font></font>"melee attack toggle button"<font face="Courier New"><font color="#cc9900">T</font> <font color="#666666">=</font> </font>Taunts<font face="Courier New"><font color="#6666ff">N</font> <font color="#666666">=</font> </font>Nuke<font face="Courier New"><font color="#ffff00">O</font> <font color="#666666">=</font> </font>HO starter<font face="Courier New"><font color="#cc6600">W</font> <font color="#666666">=</font> </font>Ward<font face="Courier New"><font color="#ccff00">K</font> <font color="#666666">=</font> </font>Offering of arament and similar offtanking skills"<font face="Courier New"><font color="#ff00ff">B</font> <font color="#666666">=</font> </font>Buff<font face="Courier New"><font color="#ff0000">H</font> <font color="#666666">=</font> </font>Heal<font face="Courier New">I <font color="#666666">=</font> </font>Incoming %t (assigned to key "1")The top bars is for my "misc" spells and abilities... and mainly stuff I don't want setting off if I mash the keyboard none are asigned any hotkeys so Sprint, Call for help and other lovelies are up there - and the rest of my abilies are arranged as shown.I have spent a LOT of time rearrangin my hotkeys around and I think I have hit on the optimum as for the last 3 months I haven't changed anything. each "role" I use is centred on a grid of about 3x3.Tanking:<font face="Courier New">I<font color="#666666"> - - - - -</font> <font color="#ffff00">O</font> <font color="#666666">- - - - -</font> <font color="#ffccff">A</font> <font color="#cc9900">T T</font> <font color="#666666">- - -</font> <font color="#ccffff">M M M</font> <font color="#666666">- - -</font></font>Off-Tanking:<font color="#666666"> </font><font face="Courier New"><font color="#666666">- - - - - -</font> <font color="#666666">- - -</font> <font color="#ff0000">H H H</font> <font color="#666666">- - </font><font color="#6666ff">N N N</font> <font color="#ccff00">K</font> <font color="#666666">- - - </font><font color="#cc9900"><font color="#cc6600">W</font> </font><font color="#666666">-</font> <font color="#ccff00">K</font></font><p>Message Edited by boli on <span class="date_text">03-25-2005</span> <span class="time_text">06:10 AM</span></p><p>Message Edited by boli on <span class=date_text>03-25-2005</span> <span class=time_text>06:19 AM</span>

<P>Here is what I use (28 pally)</P> <P><IMG src="http://www.stormreaver.dsl.pipex.com/EQ2_000007.jpg"></P> <P>Basically ya got attacks on the left, buffs on the right, utility at the top right, and spells that you never replace on the middle right (rescue, rage, and taunt for HOs). For attacks, it goes HO, oath strike, then a variety of other attacks, stuns, then taunt, AEs an AE taunt. Then ya got heals/wards, self bufs, target buffs then group buff.</P> <p>Message Edited by Stormreaver on <span class=date_text>03-27-2005</span> <span class=time_text>03:12 AM</span>

<DIV>In that screen shot I am using the top screen resolution.  I am using a GeForce Ultra and 1.5 gig of RAM.  I have found if I turn up the texture resolutions to full, and lower a bunch of other stuff, I can get pretty nice game play without the lag.  A little tweaking here and there makes all the difference.  Its almost unbelievable how amazing the details truly are.  Amazing artists and lots of time.</DIV>
