<DIV>I've noticed in my server (Nektulos) that there are so many pallys, and when i ask them why they became one, they say becuz of the horse... this really annoys me seeing as i think the pallys in the server should be made up of people who really wanted to be a holy warrior, the Paladin. I did not even know about Pallys gettin horses when I became one, i was lvl 20 pally and i saw a guy same lvl with a horse so i asked him about it and he told me how to get one... now i am lvl 24 and it seems pallys are overflowin the server all becuz of a stupid horse that barely helps. it looks cool, but seriously guys go for what u are interested in. They are Uber Character of the Week players. Next week there will be a new uber character and a lot of those pallys will go away and become something new.

<DIV>I am a level 26 Paladin. I didn't even know about the horse until I was well into my teen levels. I figure they gave it to us because we don't get to use bows, axes and such. I would rather have the title sir and get a unique looking armor. I will save up and bye a horse.</DIV>

<DIV>I don't think its the Horses, if so I think you would see more SK's also.  I think it more to unwarrented Guardian bad press, and a perception that Monks are damage dealers.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'm starting to notice on my server a lack of Mages.  And it makes me wonder. I thought Mages were suppose to be the highest in DPS, but then scouts a close second, with needing them for HO's and opening chests.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Course most people see Scouts doing as much or more (I mean a assassin always has the highests Magical hit?) and most scouts hardly understand HO's ( a Pet peeve, its a class defining ability for bog's sake), and I think opening chests is Gimped.</DIV>

<DIV>I'll admit it the horse was one of the main reasons I decided to start a paladin.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> I have a 26th lvl Swashbuckler, a 21 lvl monk, and now my 20th lvl paladin.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Im having a blast, I have always liked the combat professions, Im not much of a caster. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Anyways I like all three of my characters and I am really liking my paladin.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I like controlling the mobs in combat I.E. Tanking; I like being able to cast while still being a combat prof; </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>and I like the horse.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Whats wrong with that.  :smileywink:</DIV><p>Message Edited by Santsu on <span class=date_text>01-04-2005</span> <span class=time_text>07:13 PM</span>

Wouldnt bother me if they removed the horses in the slightest. Never even knew paladins got one till I was L19 and someone asked hehe.I love the image the paladin presentsBesides if paladins only use the "fun" horse, there going to get left behind when others start using faster stable purchased ones.

I fail to see what the problem is with people playing a pally because of the horse. People play classes for all sorts of reasons, some of which you may consider stupid. I know people who play healers because they can always get a group, people who play guardians because they heard that guardians are in the most demand as main tanks. Heh, when EQ1 first released a LOT of people played monks so they wouldn't have to worry about equipment. As long as people aren't playing a class for the exploit value (such as all those who played druids in EQ1 so they could kite) then I fail to see what the problem is. You can pick a class for any reason whatsoever, although you'll get the entire package. If you want to play a class nobody else plays then don't pick a pally. Pallies have ALWAYS been popular. Some people really do like to play the good guy (although that's toned down a lot in EQ2 it seems). And yes, some people will play a pally because of the horse; although if they want to do well they'll embrace the entire package -- because they're stuck with the entire package like it or not. I doubt that horse is going to hold interest all the way to level 50. People who really have no interest in anything but the horse will get bored and find something else. But their reasons for picking a pally are their own and irrelevant for anyone else. If they decide to pick a class or race because it looks good or has a horse or has a cool looking spell or anything else, that's their business and no one else's.

when everyone gets a horse, hopefully this wont be the case. i was going to be a wiz or warlock at first, but i decided to become a paladin because i like the idea of being a Knight in shining armor

<DIV>why I became a paladin, I first started out as a scout, worked my way up to level 27 assassin, and totaly hated the fact that my choices in armour were limited, wasnt able to solo well, I was able to pump out gobs of damage but if you cant take it your toast. So I took a look at the other fighter type classes and decided on the pally, why? they wear heavy armour, they can heal (massive bonus in my book) and they can go it alone when they need to, about my Holy steed? I only use when i go solo or travaling alone, I dont like to pull with it, and I think its rude to ride when everyone else is on foot</DIV>

<DIV>My preference was towards being a tank, so Guardian and Pali was my choice.  personally I dont think the whole guardian is a better tank than a pali, its how you play the characters and the stats you have.  The steed was what swayed me, but then found out about quests like ghoulbane.  The steed is a benefit rather than the main factor.  Oh, and then theres the squire.</DIV>

<DIV>It's good that the Paladin image is attracting people.. but if someone basis their choice on horse alone, I am afraid they will be disapointed later on when everyone has one.</DIV>

I personally think it's rude if you *don't* ride your horse in a group. There have been a couple of times someone in grp has aggroed, way overmatched to us, and I was able to grab their hate and train them away. I've also been able to clear aggro without worry of wiping group when we get in tight spots. In short, it helps the group in several ways that being on foot doesn't.

I'm on Crushbone and I don't see too many paly's now that I'm level 25. Maybe two in a zone or so. However when I ask about why they became paly's it's almost always because of the horse. The bad thing I see about this is that many times I have noticed that people who are going Paladin simply because of the horse then has no clue how to play a Paly and then encounters become more difficult than they should be. Rather than being secondary tanks they end up trying to deal as much damage as possible rather than pulling aggro's off of mages and healers. Those who I have found who really don't care about the horse, thinking it's just a nice add-on, tend to play a bit better and understand the role they are supposed to play. It's probably just me, but this is just what I have encountered on Crushbone, I haven't seen all the Paladins out there, true, but it's just in my experiance. I've seen groups that have been laid to waste because a Paladin didn't do their job.Personally for me, the horse is a nice add-on and such, but I like the whole role of being an Iksar Paladin overall. I like being able to tank, secondary tank or do small helping heals on the side whenever possible.

Actually in regard to being "rude" not riding the horse, I almost never ride my horse when grouped. Mainly because the horse is slowed to default walking speed when you're in an encounter, so it makes no difference whether you are forced to train or not.But my reason is almost for the other players. I don't ride it because I go faster than everyone else so I tend to leave people behind on accident when moving about areas, and when fighting the horse blocks my view quite often when another creature attacks a group member and I need to see and realize that someone else is being attacked on the side. I think the horse is neat and all. But when grouping I Just find it more of a nuance.
