<DIV>Its very plausible. Read the Dark Elf Triology by R.A. Salvatore..</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I kinda regret not trying the role of DE paladin, mostly for the versatil roleplaying reasons it yields.</DIV>

<DIV>I was one of the rare Dark Elf Paladins in EQ1. I got the last guise of the deciever on my server minuted before they downed the server to make the mask thief/bard only. Zone in, click the guise, and I was a full dark elf with Ultravision. Heck the novelty alone got me groups through level 50. <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

<DIV>DE Paladins are as common as fat halflings. Of the last 20 Dark Elves I have seen in Qeynos 19 were Paladins. One was a cleric (of Erolissi of course). I mean come on the rare dark elf Paladin would be interesting but when fully 80% of all the betrayer dark elves I have seen are Paladins it is cliche'.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>No offense but not all dark elves who betray Freeport have an epiphany of celestial cleansing in their souls and rededicate their lives to championing justice, protecting the weak and upholding the poor. Some think Lucan sucks and just want out. Heck theoretically MOST would NOT become Paladins if you really think about it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Where are the good Dark Elf bersekers, guardians, furys, shamans, mages, swashbuckler, etc? Why don't I ever see any of THOSE?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I mean come on people be a little original.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>And yes this is a pet peave of mine. Drizzt was original and unique, until every fanboy in existance had to be exactly like him and this is my biggest fear come true in EQ II when they announced the betrayer quest. It is simply too easy. (and yes I have helped 6 guildmates do it so I DO know how hard it is).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As a matter of fact I find it hilarious that I have seen more Dark Elf Paladins in Qeynos than I have seen High Elf Paladins (of which I am one). It seems he light elf Paladins are the realy rare ones. Which is odd in itself.</DIV><p>Message Edited by GilfalasElaandrin on <span class=date_text>12-23-2004</span> <span class=time_text>11:42 AM</span>

I play a dark elf swashbuckler. So there are some of them. There are lots of good darkelves though. I did figure as much though with the popularity of the Salvatore books.

lol gilfalas.. "Where are the good Dark Elf bersekers, guardians, furys, shamans, mages, swashbuckler, etc? Why don't I ever see any of THOSE?"Berserkers and Guardians are neutral classes.. who would want to betray and go thru the most annoying quest when they don't even have to.. just making that dumb remark has made me not even read the rest of what you have to say. Thank you for trying to be smart.

<DIV>Drizzt was nothing to do with EQ lore either, EQ lore and other fantasy lore very different. Personally i hate Drizzt, mainly because thanks to him i had to put up with almost every dark elf in EQ1 being 'good' even necros and SKs FFS. So now you can betray and that proves you are good..apparently.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As for someone asking why anyone would do betray quest to be a class that can be good or evil...well, RP of course, would be quite unique as very few would bother being a dark elf berserker who betrayed freeport when they could just be zerker in freeport or a different race nd start in qeynos.</DIV>

<DIV>I think its due to the disparity between the 2 classes. 1/2 the people I know can't tell between a fury, Templar, or Mystic. Being a paladin is the almost 100% foolproof way to "show" you've done the betrayal.</DIV>

I've done it three times now (twice in beta) and it's not exactly the most enjoyable quest to undertake.

<DIV>I have a Dark Elf Ranger, myself, and that didn't have anything to do with Drizzt either. In recent days, however, I have noticed a pretty drastic exodus of players from Freeport to Qeynos...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>It seems like most people start in Qeynos, and if they want to play a race that has to start in Freeport, then they betray as soon as they can. I spent my time in the Commonlands, and I don't think it has ever had so many people as Antonica.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I seriously think that for every 1 player who betrays Qeynos and goes to Freeport, easily 10+ players betray Freeport and come to Qeynos. That may simply imply player trends, but it also may imply an imbalance between the cities. Is the Qeynos area really that much better to play in? People certainly aren't doing it for the "novelty" of playing an evil race as a good class, because so many people are doing it now that it's not special at all. I am no longer surprised to see a Troll, Ogre, Iksar, or *especially* Dark Elf or Ratonga running around in Qeynos; it's a common, daily occurance, and it does actually make me feel a tiny bit disgusted.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Log in to a server during prime time playing hours and do a simple "survey" to see just how lopsided betrayal is:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>/who all good ogre/iksar/darkelf/ratonga/troll</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>/who all evil woodelf/highelf/dwarf/halfling/froglok (when/IF frogloks become available)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I can almost guarantee you right here and now that you will find good "evils" will outnumber evil "goods" by a staggering amount.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Maybe if every single breathing NPC in Freeport didn't put you down and threaten to kill you in EVERY SINGLE CONVERSATION, this wouldn't be so drastic... or maybe it's just me. :smileywink:</DIV>

<DIV>I made a troll Pally mainly because I have always wanted one. It wasnt an option in EQ, but EQ2 lets me do it <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />. On my server I have seen a ton of DE's in qeynos, but very few troll, ogres, or ratonga. Before I did the betrayal there was only 1 other troll in qeynos.</DIV>

<DIV>On Antonia Bayle, most of the pallys I see are Barbarian. I made an Ogre Fighter with the idea to betray Freeport (well, my wife wanted an inky to betray, so I made a companion). I figure if I am going to betray, I am going to pick a goody class or why bother. I think this applies to most people that betray. I have not met any betrayers that picked a neutral class. I am sure they exist, but I would speculate they are the minority of the betrayers. So, I did not want an Ogre monk, I chose the life of the pally. I imagine most dark elves feel the same way. They want to see their dark elf donned in plate armor and they want to pick a Qeynos-only class, so they choose pally.</DIV>
