<DIV>I haven't actually used one yet, but as far as I can tell, the horses and other mountable creatures/objects are simply "buff" type spells. You cast the spell, and when it's finished, the horse appears and your paladin goes through the animation of mounting it, and then you're forever stuck on the horse until you click off the buff. No horses tied up outside the bar, no horses hanging around while you're on foot smacking around some gnolls, etc..</DIV>

<DIV>1. you can fight while mounted</DIV> <DIV>2. horses go into building, can climb stair, ladders etc</DIV> <DIV>3. no they disappear, also each time you zone. They can not be used in dungeons, caves, etc.ie instanced zones. (though I have not been everywhere)</DIV> <DIV>4. " " "</DIV> <DIV>5. nope</DIV> <DIV>6. some classes can morph in bears, wolves, birds etc. some others get a pet, cat etc.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Lots of jealousy anyway.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Note: don't take them anywhere near water, they don't like water.</DIV>

<DIV>I'm a LVL 25 Dwarf Pally and I usually fight on my horse. I find it comes in handy for long pulls, so I can outrun my enemy back to the grp. I have heard some complaints that bigger players - humans, barbarians - while mounted will block the view in grps. Technically this is not an issue other than you can't see the target. You are still going to have access to that target to do damage or you can simply run behind the enemy. As a dwarf, my horse is slightly larger than an Irish Setter, so together we are still shorter than the average player, so it really hasn't been an issue. </DIV>

When I'm grouped I usually get off my horse. When in a locked encounter horses don't go any faster then anything else and, as near as I can tell, you can't sprint while on a horse. So they can actually be a disadvantage (since you can sprint while in a locked encounter). I haven't done a detailed analysis but that's the way it appears to me. Besides, I like to minimize paladin envy by other classes. If you don't go any faster while an encounter is locked they're no good for pulling unless you use agro pulling.

<DIV>Hmmm - you may be right about that though it seems as though I take less hits when mounted than I do on foot after a pull. I'll have to look into it. Either way, it still cuts down on the time it takes to get to the enemy, regardless of what happens afterward. I guess it comes down to preference. </DIV>

<DIV>What is the command to mount/dismount the horse? Said another way, how do you send the horse away to enter combat and then restore it once you're ready to move on?</DIV>

<DIV>It's a spell, with a rather long cast time. To get off, you cancel the buff icon. It doesn't take any concentration (which may be a way to balance it as a fun spell rather than a combat/travel enchancement, and...oops, I've said too much).</DIV>

<DIV>The "fluff" horses for Paladins and Shadow Knights don't really bother me too much. The Devs have already said that these horses move *far* more quickly than they were ever intended to, so don't be surprised if their travel speed gets toned down. One of my biggest pet peeves, though, is Crusaders that ride their horse ALL THE TIME, even while fighting, or especially while going into buildings in town. If you're in a group and you're in combat, GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE DAMMIT! :smileytongue:</DIV>

<DIV>Oh I agree entirely, I always dismount when I reach my group or when I'm about to enter a building. It's proper etiquette, even for a lizard. Of course, which would you rather deal with; (a) knights riding on their horses in combat, or (b) the people who inexplicably <EM>jump everywhere all the time</EM>. Don't get me started on the people who jump everywhere while on horseback.</DIV>

I'm not going to cancel it and "recast" it for each pull, it takes like 10 seconds to cast... What would you say if someone told you to cancel your pathfinding? Why should we get of our horse to go into a building when the game will let us ride right in?

<DIV>I wouldn't pick the paladin class just because of the horse. Unfortunately, I hear about people who pick paladin because of this ability. I anticipate a nerf soon and you should too. Please pick the class that you find fun to play. I didn't know about the "speed" of the horse until after I had already picked the class. This is just my opinion, but I see a nerf in the future so it's unwise to pick this class just for this one ability.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Tegra, 27 paladin, Lavastorm</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

Oh, definitely, that was just a little jibe. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />I love my Paladin and not because of the horse.

<DIV>It really has nothing to do with you getting a horse that only cost 14 silver to buy. Many people think the steeds are way too fast for a "fluff" skill, but that's another debate entirely. I have a 19 Crusader, and I can't wait to get his horse and trot around on it for fun. :smileytongue:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>It has everything to do with your [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] horse taking up valuable screen real estate when I'm standing 5 meters away from you trying to be observant of my surroundings. Fluffy bears and wolves and lions and tigers and elementals and etc. cause the same problem: player characters taking up *much* more horizontal space on the screen, obscuring important things from view. I can't tell you how many times I've had trouble trying to click on a chest to disarm it, because a fluffy bear or wolf was standing somewhere near it. Animal forms and mounts in combat are one of my biggest pet peeves right now.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Besides that, fighting on horseback looks *really* simplistic and uninteresting. Players weren't meant to be fighting while riding mounts, otherwise they would have dedicated some artist time to making the animations more interesting, right? They would have spent more money on that, right? :smileywink:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>/shout Company! DISMOUNT!</DIV>
