<DIV>Hey i may be behind the learning curve here but i finished the Crypt of Betrayal Quest for the Sharpscar axe.  I tried to weild it and realized i couldnt.  Its the first time ive ever tried to equip an axe so i never realized it.  Is it true or was it a mistake on my part?  If it is true and we cant use axes  is there something better out there for levels 20-30?  Im looking for a one handed weapon to last until i can weild ghoulbane,</DIV>

<DIV>If you can get it Berik Sword of Thunder is the best one hander swords I have seen from 20 to 30.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>There are a bunch of threads about it in the quest forum.</DIV>

<DIV>I'm wondering tho as it says in the manual that we can indeed use axes...is the manual wrong or will it be implimented at a later date? I'd sure love to wield a big 'ole axe!<img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

I'm a dwarf. I want to wield an axe! Pweeze? I don't see any good reason why paladins shouldn't be able to use axes, other than "not a guardian or berserker, so can't use all weapons".

<BR> <BLOCKQUOTE> <HR> Santsu wrote:<BR> <DIV>If you can get it Berik Sword of Thunder is the best one hander swords I have seen from 20 to 30.' <HR> </DIV></BLOCKQUOTE><BR> <DIV>Berik, Sword of Thunder is most definaltey worth getting if you get the drop, the problem is it is very rare. Another alternative, though equally as rare, is to get a steel cluster and have a weaponmith make you a pristien forged steel longsword or otehr weapon of your choice. The longsword is about 99% of the sword that Berik is, but without a proc.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If steel clusters are a sane prie on your server then this is a good option. By sane I mean 7-10 gold a cluster, juding by Antonia Bayle's economy. Which is currently not sane so your mileage may vary.</DIV>

<DIV>The manual is wrong about axes and Pallys.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Another good sword is the Dwarven Sword of Cleansing from the "Cleansing of the Firemyst Gulley" quest is good mid 20's sword.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>I'd hoped to find some like-minded ppl and here you are - unfortunately this thread has diverged to talking about swords <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>-----------------------------------------</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I started my Dwarf crusader with the expectation that I'd be able to use an axe someday.  It seems obvious that a Dwarf would be able to use an axe, unless he becomes a priest or something.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The manual lists axe as useable by crusaders and paladins.  So the expectation is valid.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The archetype system is a slightly new approach so a fresh review of what classes can use should include some flexibility.</DIV> <DIV>This flexibility gives contributed to my expectations as well.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If a class is designed to represent an old ideal, based on past games, historical accuracy, or some cultural bias that says "Paladins do this, look like this, act like this" then any anachronisic and NEW class/race combos should herald an era of certain barriers breaking down.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Consider that 500 years have passed since EQ1, cataclysmic events have crammed all of Norrath's "refugees" into two cities - these cities have become a melting pot (or tossed salad if you prefer).  Cultural crossover and assimilation across the board is part and parcel of the new social order, it is part of the new "way things are" and it can be seen by the fact there are new possiblities and freedom for the kind of character you can make to live, thrive and survive in Norrath.  If games, books, and historical references are the basis for the game, then it must be that the game has evolved beyond that foundation.  Old social barriers have fallen, new combinations of race/class are possible,  and while the archetypes have survived, perhaps the cliches and stereotypes have not.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>With this in mind I ask some simple questions:</DIV> <DIV>If an Ogre, Dark Elf or Troll can betray Freeport and make their way to the light by devotion to the Crusader/Paladin path - then why can a Dwarf Paladin NOT use an axe?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If thought of a Paladin conjurs up the image of some guy with a sword, then does not a Dwarf fighter conjure up a similar image with an axe?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>What does it matter if the tools of the trade are no longer "in the box"?  A Paladin is a holy warrior, an instrument of "good" used by a diety.  If the Paladin can be an evil race - why can't a Paladin use an axe?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If my Dwarf can use an axe for woodcutting when he's Foresting, why can't he use a traditional dwarven battle axe to vanquish his enemies?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If my Dwarf grew up around axes, hammers and the like, what happened when he decided to become a Crusader/Paladin;  did he simply forget how to use an axe?  Did he forsake the axe in some archaic ritual or a nice blow to the head?</DIV> <DIV>--------------------------------------------</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Even my banal questions speak to the inconsistencies in the system.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The flexibility and freedom given to us to make an evil race character into a holy warrior for good CONTRADICTS the comparitively minor anachronism forced upon dwarves (and barbarians even) who must forsake what very well may be an icon within thier disctinctive cultures:  the axe.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Minor cosmetic issue?  I think NOT.</DIV> <DIV>While I will not stop playing my dwarf paladin over this issue - this IS a big deal.  This is my character.</DIV> <DIV>A huge part of these online games is having an idealized character, and idealized means they can do cool stuff and look cool doing it.  Looking cool is half the fun, it takes faster better computers with more RAM and hella video cards - and the video game industry - regardless of platform - is driven by the eye candy factor.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>- Stuu, Crushbone srv</DIV>

<DIV>You have a valid gripe.  You started your dwarf with the expectation of using an axe and were told that you'd be able to use it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Except what you were told wasn't the truth.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Don't expect them to make any effort to help you out though.  Only things I suggest is to either start a new dwarf fighter (and NOT go pally) or get used to using other weapons.</DIV>

<DIV>Well my faith in the system has been rewarded.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Either a thoughtful post has made an impact, or at least they finally got to it on their back burner.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>It's been a while since this post, but fairly recently SoE has "fixed" this and now my Dwarf Pally can use an axe <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'm not posing this to gloat,</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>This is a big phat THANK YOU to SoE :smileyhappy:</DIV>

LOL.  I was sitting here for the longest time thinking [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] I have been using axes the whole game.  Was going to post that until I read this was a dead post.  I was even going to post a screen shot of me weilding an axe.  LOL<p>Message Edited by Jaddenstar on <span class=date_text>11-04-2005</span> <span class=time_text>09:11 AM</span>
