<DIV>I am an old school D&D/AD&D/D&D 3E player who loved the paladin class, but haven't really found one in an MMORPG that had a paladin feel to it. I am currently testing WoW and I like the paladin class in it, but I also want to check out how the paladin is in EQ2. However, getting to 20 just to find out is kind of a pain.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have looked at the skill list and the paladin seems to be a fighter with a different damage type and a few token healing spells thrown in. At least that is the way it looks on paper.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So I ask you. Do you feel like your are a paladin? Are there quests that make you feel like you are a paladin? I know that in EQ Live, it seemed that a lot of the paladin quests involved murdering someone.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Don't include the horse, since in a few months everybody and his brother will have their own horse.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thanks</DIV>

<DIV>I haven't a heck of a lot of experience as a paladin. Only 20th level, made it in a grind because I'm trying to catch up with some friends *grin*. To answer your question, no I don't feel that the content definately makes me feel like a paladin.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> The storyteller can't play your character for you though; in the end, the game is just a system, and you make or break the character (: I think the system does a good job of making our subclass viable in game at higher levels, and it provides some niftay abilities like the taunts, instant heals, protective wards, and aoe blasts. </DIV> <DIV> I feel that skills don't make the character though, it's about how you play the personality of the charater, and the system doesn't dictate that much (with the unfortunate exception of some of the scripted conversations with NPCs <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> If you want to play a paladin, then play one wherever you find a community you enjoy roleplaying it as. Enjoy )</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>-Slissik, sebilisian paladin of veeshan</DIV> <DIV>unrest.</DIV>

<DIV>I feel pretty paladinsh. Spells give white and gold glowing auras. We can use plate mail and a shield. We get a magic horse to summon. only thing we are missing is turn undead :smileyvery-happy:</DIV>
<DIV>So far, there hasnt been very many quests that are paladin-specific and I'm level 21. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The only one I've ran into is the quest that's required of us to become paladins at level 20. In this quest, we had to go to a hostile territory where gnolls were holding some Qeynos citizens prisoner, and the city of Qeynos is requesting that we go and save those people before the gnolls move out with the prisoners. That in itself felt very paladin-ish, since we were to go out and prove our valor and dedication to serving a cause (in this case, protecting and rescuing the people of Qeynos).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Other than that, I haven't found any paladin-specific quests yet, or any quests for that matter, that help to add to me feeling like an old-school paladin.</DIV>

<DIV>So other than the heals and maybe the wards, there is nothing in the skills that seperates you from any other warrior type? Well, except for the spell graphics.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I guess what I am looking for is did SOE design a paladin or did they give a tank a couple of healing abilities and call it a day?</DIV>
<DIV>Hey! I'm an old school AD&D (old school rules) paladin also. I have found with MOGs that you will not get that exact paladin feel like we are used to in D&D. TSR got it right the first time. Everyone else just can't live up to that standard. Especially when it comes to the holy swords. Ghoulbane (an EQ-EQ2 sword) being the only holy sword that meets the standards. Yeah I know, this is not D&D. But they did set the standard. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>After that said. I feel that EQ2's crusader/paladin seems to be more thought out than EQ1's was. Maybe their line of holy swords will be better also. In MOGs there is not a strict paladin code in place. It is all up to the person playing the paladin. A MOG paladin does not lose paladin status for doing things unpaladin like in the game. Half the people who play paladins are just as much a jerk as anyone else can be with any other class. So that kind of ruins it sometimes. They have no sense of honor and never will. They just play the class because it is some character with armor, weapons, and spells. You have to get used to all of this. Ignore the ones who disgrace the class. To them it is just a game of polygons and nothing more. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So basically half of feeling paladin-like is up to you. I feel like a paladin because I try to behave like one in the game. If I am in a group you can bet I will be the last one to run. I'll hold my ground and let the casters escape. To me that is a part of being a paladin. If I wanted to run first I would of picked another class to play. Even though I will say that sometimes the game or game quest force you to have to do something against your own self placed code of honor. But not much you can do about that.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So anyway...feeling like a paladin in a MOG is all up to you. That is what I have learned.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>:smileyhappy: </DIV>

Later on we get a rez. We have divine nukes and AOE nukes. A few a believe are divine damage spells that heal the rest of the party. </P> <P>But when it comes down to it we are tanks with heals and wards. In a MMORP I am not sure what else a paladin would be able to do apart from flavor quests.</P>

<DIV>I would like some undead proc/nukes added to clearly define my unique abilties-- and there seem to be a lot of undead mobs in the game so they would actually be useful. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

<DIV>Exactly what is it you are looking for? Aside from more pally based quests exactly what do you expect other than heals and other abilities to save the group? Obviously undead specific abilities would be nice...but only to an extent else they'll mess it up like in EQ1.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>At the end of the day what really makes a pally different to a warrior is their personality and their undying determination to do what is right and just-its their personality that seperates them from others, the game cant hand you your personality, thats up to you</DIV>
