<DIV>Hello everyone. My little brother just got EQ2 and we want to duo. He's going to be a Cleric/Templar. </DIV> <DIV>So that leaves me as the tank. I've been trying to decide between a Bezerker or a Paladin. I just have </DIV> <DIV>a couple questions about the Paladin class. I know tanking is different for all the fighter archetypes</DIV> <DIV>from what I've read Paladins get heals and a ward, but do they tank good enough to be the main tank?</DIV> <DIV>And do they put out enough damage and aggro to kill single mobs or 2-4 grouped mobs? I'd like to be</DIV> <DIV>a Paladin, I've played them in other games and always had a blast. But I don't know if a Paladin and</DIV> <DIV>Templar would make an efficent enough combo to duo when theres not enough time to get a full group</DIV> <DIV>or when we just want to play together. Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can give me <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>I feel qualified to answer this question since my husband is a Mystic and I myself am a Paladin.  We duo, not often as of late as AQ20 requires groups most of the time.  However, when we did duo, we were effective, slower, but effective.  There are a whole lot of threads already regarding Paladin being a good and proper tank, so you might want to peruse and see what has been said.  Paladin does not have a whole heck of a lot of dmg output, but between our own wards and eventually heals we can indeed last through a fight and with a healer, the fight might last longer than having a high dps, but it can be accomplished.  Now we have a good friend we've played with who is a Bezerker and while he has incredible damage, gains a lot of agro, he is much harder to heal.  I think in the long run, slow and steady wins the race, but there's also something to be said about bringing down a mob fast, so I think it's all up to you and what you'd like to play.  I for one believe from experience with our Bezerker friend that Paladin hands down is a much better tank than a Bezerker, but if you're into spamming damage, duel wield Bezerker will fill the chat screen with dmg.  A note to think about, I have a friend who went evil and started SK, got to lvl 22 or so I think and rerolled a Bezerker, and he's now addicted to the agro and dmg, and I don't think he's going back to SK.  So, all up to you and what you wanna play.  I however, am really happy with Paladin, I think in a duo situation it's the most versatile choice, but that's just my opinion.</DIV>

<DIV>Well put.  It really depends on your playstyle.  I tend to be a little more risk-averse, but I like to tank so Paladin suits my style.  I'm fine not being as good a tank as a guardian or even a monk.  I like having spells in addition to combat arts.  Being rather conservative (still gunshy from the exp debt in EQLive), my favorite part is having the panic button 'lay-on-hands' when it starts to hit the fan.  I make lifelong friends when the main healer is out of commission and I drop this on a groupmate.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I enjoy pairing up with a warrior type.   We can taunt off each other, and I can take a step back if need be to heal and buff during battle, then jump right back in to do considerable damage.</DIV>

<DIV>If you want to remain in Freeport, you will need to be a ShadowKnight. If you wish, you can start your betrayal quest at level 17, and once complete you will be a citizen of Qeynos. You can then progress to Paladin at level 20.</DIV>

This gives me the choice of picking Paladin or ShadowKnight - I'm leaning towards Palading right now...but who knows <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

<DIV>I have a 37 Paladin and I am almost 100% of the time the main tank.  I easily keep aggro from the casters and other DPS classes.  I pull with a ranged nuke.  I then do an area taunt and follow it with a group stun.  They remain on me the entire fight.  The Paladin comes into his/her own around level 28 when you get a massibe nuke/dot spell.  Add to that your buffs, heals, and tanking abilities and you have one of the best, if not the best tanking classes in the game.</DIV>
