Guard Captain Hess - how do you get him to spawn?

Just camp that room and wipe out anything moving, including his PHs and hell eventually spawn. I believe he's a random spawn and not timed as I've seen him spawn anywhere between 30 minutes of last pop and 4 hours.

He's not the same as Dyana, and I have no idea where that one spawns. Lord A in the chessboard room has the very nice palladium jewelry though, he's worth killing.<BR>

Lord Dyana is in upper Stormhold, he's like level 18ish and has a defiled lancer ph.When pass the door Hess's room, hop over the break in the floor, pass the door to the room that is connect to Hess's room, you want take a right down the next hallway and follow that till you get to a door. Go into the room and there should be a hole in the wall on the right that leads up to another room, this is where Lord Dyana and his ph will pop.<p>Message Edited by Darkith on <span class=date_text>12-03-2004</span> <span class=time_text>02:18 AM</span>

You just have to keep killing the two non aggro phs that pop at the end of the room next to that little alcove and he'll spawn eventually. You could also hop on right after a patch and he should be up, that's how I got my shield. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

<DIV>We've been down in Hess's room the past couple of nights. The first night he would not spawn at all. The second night he spawned rather quickly and while we took him down, his minions got us. There was a difference I noticed between the two nights.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>On the first night, there were no knight placeholders at the end of the room even though we cleared the spawns in that room like 3 or 4 times. The second night, there were 2 knights at the end of the room and no Hess. We cleared the room including the 2 knights. We then pulled 2 more zombies from the next room over just for xp. Right after we finished with those 2 zombies, Hess and his 2 side-kicks spawned.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I suspect that when the 2 placeholders are not there, something is bugged and you won't get Hess to pop no matter how long you wait. I've had it happen once, I left the instance I was in and went into another one and the named I was looking for was up.

I've seen some nice legs drop (don't recall the name). They were not as good as the level 20 armor quest legs but they were close. He also drops the Ancient Kite Shield which is pretty nice. At level 25 it gives me another 224 AC.

<DIV>Ahh - ok.  I knew the shield dropped in SH, but I did not know it was off Captain Hess.  Very nice.  I am using a pristine condition ash kite shield that I bought from a friend of a friend at a slight discount.  I use it for tanking and it adds about 117 AC.  I would love to have the Ancient and will try to destroy his undead butt while I am down there camping armor quest 3 mobs.  Thanks for the info!</DIV>
