View Full Version : Is Legionnaire's Smite any good in PvP?

When I had it trained at 4/8 a while back, it didn't seem to do any more damage than one of my direct damage spells (Condemning Spirit, I think). For those that put 8/8 in it, does it actually become good and useable in PvP? Having to switch out to a symbol and back would be very annoying.

I plan on going into it just to get the spell melee crit chance, so if any one can reply here that would be great.

Ive put 8 points in it and im quite impressed with it does good damage and on a quick timer. It also does magic damage if i remeber right so you can least do a bit of damage to the chars with maxed out disease resist. The only problem now is theyve changed the sheild bash line so you cant bash with a symbol.

Actually I think it is Divine damage. For an extra spell it does respectable damage and I think if you are going to play the role of off-tank it is well worth it. I have both my shield and symbol on my hotbars so I can easily toggle between the 2 if need be. As for the cris, both Melee and Spell crits are very worth the 8 points, but take Spell Crits over Melee first. The 68% chance to crit spells amounts to a 20-25% overall increase in DPS and is very much the most beneficial AA choice in my opinion.

The description specifically states magic damage, not divine. Either way, nice to have around those mobs that are disease resistant.

That said, yes, it is a nice little extra attack to have that can give your DPS a modest boost, especially since it is on a 20 second timer.

Message Edited by Lord Montague on 07-17-2006 03:14 PM

In PvP its actually a pretty good spell. When I am solo hunting, I come accross caster/healer classes solo far more often than plate tanks so a shield is not really important-that is why I keep the symbol equipped. The extra dps and the fact u can shield bash with a symbol makes for more success when fighting these classes. In group PvP, I dont use it and rely on my team mates for dps as everyone should be anyway.

You can't shield bash with a symbol anymore, the last update changed it. I used to have 8 points in the symbol nuke myself for raids mostly. Many times on raids there is range fights only and thats when it came in handy. Pvp I didn't think it was very useful since most of the classes doing the ganking was scouts. The added mitigation of a shield is more useful then a symbol IMO.
