Wondering what do you use as far as soloing when it comes to 1 hander vs. 2 hander.... shields... stances... Sks seem to work differently then any other plate class due to damage shields and wards.

i think a lot like any other class it depends on waht your fighting.

most of the time when i solo i go two handed sword and offencive stance (even though my AAs are INT and STA), i'd rather kill things faster an rely on my heals than go slower and safer, but thats probably personal preferance.

but its a sliding scale really, 1h+shield and defencive stance if your fighting something tough, 2h and offencive stance if your fighting something weak. not sure which works better for a mid stance, 1h+sheild and offence, or 2h + defence... can't say i've looked into it.

How much of our damage is actually done though our weapon though? Is it enough to warent the loss of a good tower shield?

Depends on what i fight .. against blue/yellow single mobs with no upgrades i use two-hander .. against mobs with upgrade normally shield .. also if i go harvesting stones on Gazer Isle where i always pull 8 gazer at once i go with shield because the most damage there comes from my AoEs

Main reason for two-hander is also that i have some swords with nice procs, and only have a onehand mace without proc .. on the other hand the mace is better against multiple targets because i skilled sta-aa and the stun helps to cast tap veines without beeing interruptet

When I solo I use a 1 hander and a symbol. I tend to use the enspelled vultak eye because it has a chance to proc a ward when I cast spells. Quite nice. I go one-hander/symbol because then I can use Legionnaire's Smite AA, which doing about 900 damage every 20 seconds is more DPS than upping to any two hander I have. Plus, it allows me to use the slam line to stun. I also go offensive stance. For named, I switch to a shield and defensive stance, since they usually eat me alive unless I can protect myself better.I go for as much INT as I can, followed by STR. My thought is to kill them before they kill me.EDIT: Oh, and when in offensive stance, proccing weapons area always my weapon of choice. Imbued Xegonite is nice.

Message Edited by Milaga on 06-25-2006 10:48 PM

Put your 2hander and your symbol on a hotkey bar and just switch when you want to use legionaires smite. That will give you better overall dps.

But I suggest that you upgrade to something better than xegonite. Something like the Awakened Skycrest Doomblade. Good DR and a really nice proc.

my favourite weapon for the proc at the moment is still the sword of legend (i always forget its name Vul'something... mebies.. who cares its a red and white two handed katana

although the proc is heat, which doesn't really fit with a SK it procs quite high, and procs crit at an improved chance thanks to the int line, so the more procs you can get the better

Overall, the scale easy = 2H + offstance -> hard = 1H + shield + defstance is good. What i enjoy the much is fighting several mobs at once to make max use of my aes, death march and pestilence and our damage shield. Relying on tap veins to heal me efficiently on several targets. I'll go as defensive as needed to stabilize the fight, minimze the interrupts and diminish the global damage your receive, to increase the relative power of our taps. Now, you can make adjustements according to what you fight. If it's something reasonable (depending on your gear =)) and you can easily compensate the damage, then you don't need high health pool. Then you can increase your int by switching your gear to make the fights go faster.About our "mid stance" i'd rather go for 1h + shield + offstance, cause you keep the block check for avoidance. Being in midstance means you fight something not too hard i e probably undercon (white and below). In those cases, avoidance is very efficient.

I have to agree with most of those here. I use 2 hand in offensive stance when I solo, but I then don't go after anything greater than ^ when I solo. When I group or if I am going after a more power MOB, I use 1 hander and shield in defense stance. Right now I am using swords, b/c I went the WIS AA line. I still have my respect, so I wanted to give the WIS a chance. So far, it seems to be working fine, but I wish the recast on combat leadership was quicker. I do like the resists though. My crushing skill is suffering though. I will have to get a crushing weapon soon and start using. I am looking for a good 2 hander, then will use the sword while grouping.

Message Edited by Soefje on 06-26-2006 09:05 AM

Solo? Whats solo?

Well I mainly duo with my wife's Fury or we make groups. However when I do solo, good ol 2 handed and offensive or sword and board with offensive. Unless it's heroic mobs or a really hard hitting caster I don't use defensive stance. Why lose all that Int for what I see as a minor upgrade in defense? Kill em fast, kill em hard, tis the SK way!
