Posting this here to get some SK point of views =D

With LU 24 on deck I have my current Shadowknight that I was planning on turning into a Paladin. My big question was which one is better for tanking and PvE in end game stuff as my SK is still very young in the scheme of things. I dont care about PvP only about PvE grouping/soloing/raiding later down the road and how he would fare as a paladin vs a Shadowknight. Any reply's from paly's or Sk's that have been there would be great!

Thanks,

Janto

Just be sure to stock up on pink, lacy bikini bottoms before you make the switch ... else ye be shunned by your peers.

SKs do more damage while Paladin's do more utility in raids. I play a level 70 paladin as an alt. Amends makes us atractive group tanks, as does our ward. Also I think we get more AE attacks than SKs. SKs get cooler hats, though .Either one can work well. Once you get past T7 (50-59) I think you will enjoy your crusader very much.

I will be betraying to a Pally. The truth is I understand that SKs are better at DPS, but the truth is I like group play, and having played EQ 1 & 2 for over 7 yrs, I hate when I am unable to do my job, TANK. But I understand we aren't Guards or Zerkers. I don't have the time to play all day, and a lot of times i have "blurps" of time to play (1 hr) so I need something that has some solo viability. Pallies the way I see it do less DPS, have the same viability solo, but can tank MUCH better because of their amend line.

A tank that can't hold aggro is no tank, its a wasted tin can. And the debate that I can pull aggro in offense, of course! Do not that main tanks are in Defense with Shield so they can't do both rolls. I will keep you guys updated to my personal opinion as to what happens when i do the betrayer quest. Side note though, do I turn pally right away or do I still have to do all the steps like before (Seems now you just have to gain faction?) And can you switch back, assuming I make a mistake?

I don't need to hear about how your tucking of the p3nls while you put on your pink lace panties is going. It was thankful enough when I read you were betraying. Thanks for the advance warning.

Same goes for the rest of you betrayers. As much I believe things need to be resolved for this class, I will never leave it. If I ever decide I am done playing my SK it will be when I done playing this game.

Like others have stated if the question of whether to betray or not is on your mind than SK is not the class for you to begin with.

I don't get what the deal with aggro management is. I've been told time and time again that I'm one of the best SKs people have played with because, gasp, I can hold aggro.I don't even struggle with it usually... Half the time I can blast off my first two taunts and just stop taunting from there.

Don't know what level you are Syfer22 but the agro issue's are mostly from level 58 to level 68 , at 69 to 70 you have plenty of time to have Gotten your tuant's adpt3 or mastered and most if not all of your skill's adpt3 or mastered + most are near if not done getting ALL thier AA point's so they are playing at the Max Sk level Good to great gear, mostly mastered/adpt3 and most or all AA's = in this situation you would be a leg up on Mting vs a lvl 60 sk , agro in level's 15 thru 58 isn't much of a problem ( altho i think some complain around level's 38 to 48 ? )

SKs are one of the better solo classes. Paladins are painful to solo.

Same deal here, this dissolves down to player skill. Get some tips, read the boards that have some awesome advice for aggro and love your SK. I MT 24/7 and aggro is only a problem with over zealous mages/scouts that like doing thier biggest nuke before the mob is in range for a proper taunting. I have a Bruiser and a Zerker too, guess what, same deal there with aggro. SKs are awesome tanks with some truely great spells and abilities. (When used properly) However you must be willing to adapt to the Crusader play style. Truth be told if you go Paladin and have said issues with SK, why would anything change? You will just suffer from the things Paladins post about instead. Seems like your trading one problem for another instead of trying to play your class to the fullest. :smileyindifferent:

I'm also more the solo player.. maybe 90% solo .. however when i group i have nearly no aggro problems .. and that as a "tank noob" .. so i think the aggro problem really couldn't be that bad. Also i started a Bersi before LU#13 .. and it was really now fun .. also after LU#13 i was nearly OOM when i tried to beat a yellow turtle with 30 .. and after that i never played him again.

Btw.: when my Conji was 68/69 my scoutpet very often took the aggro from our Pala that was 65 at that time .. with my Sk i often play with our 70 Necro .. and also his Scoutpet never gets aggro .. however .. i never played with MY Conji Also our Swashi who as quiet a lot masters often pulls aggro from our Pala .. i didn't played that much with him till now... but when i also had now issues.

Hm.. at the end .. all i can say is .. if you want to raid and have your place there .. play a healer .. or brigand .. or bard .. if you want to play mainly in groups or solo .. SK is much more fun then any other Fighter Class (yeah i also have a 57 monk .. and i hate to tank with him ... especially against group encounters)

Message Edited by Beldin_ on 06-14-2006 08:14 PM

I must admit, the thought of becomming a pally never even crossed my mind... I come to the boards today to find that people are abuzz at this... Did you not think before you created your SK? How can you have anything but contempt for the pallys after grouping with that whiney lot? Why become a pally? I admit, I did betray a rat bruiser just to tell people I have a rat monk... but that's just my twisted sense of humor... Qeynos gives me the heebies... All nice an cute and cuddly... how can one feel like they've accomplished anything by killing dogs (gnolls)? If you are torn with your decision, then by all means... follow your heart... I would, but I don't have one... I'm a Shadow Knight.
