How are you building yourself as a battlemage? Whats your current gear, and are you still trying to retain SOME defensive ability?Me, myself. I just dinged to 64. I'm building an armor set out of Xegonite. I've placed Xegonite Vanguard on my chest, legs and shoulders, and likely will do my gloves too. I'm going devout for my head & feet. I took the mitigation suckerpunch and picked up some chain bracers with 23int and 23wis. I recently aquired a legendary level 64 tablet that'll go into my ranged slot with 20int, 20wis, 12agi and +5 disruption. Keep in mind I made all of these changes _at once_ at noticed an extremely significant increase in my dps. I have devout vanguard chest, legs and shoulders which I equip when off-tanking in groups, but when solo i throw on my vanguard and take the stat punch. Soloing, I let my int settle at around 400. In groups, unbuffed, I'm pulling 450, buffed: 500. at 64 I mastered my taunt, for two reasons: I have SOME xegonite armor, and I have a xegonite kite shield, so, I figure I CAN tank. I have plans to attempt to aquire masters for my T7 stances, both offensive and defensive. Naturally, I've maxed out Legionnares intelligence, though I'm curious as to whether the spellcrit higher up is really worth it, and is it REALLY noticeable?

first our stances are still t6, they dont upgrade in T7, so we still use infernal circle and pox sword at 70.your probably going the right way though by having sets of armour depending on what your doing. generaly i go for a mixture, as i tried the battle mage approach, using a symbol, but if your going DPS a 2h sword is better, only use symbol for ranged fights to get an extra attack to use.the devout armour does offer us pretty good starts for what you want, but personaly i find the mitigation on any xegonite a bit low for tanking, so just keep an eye out as your leveling up for other gear and where it drops. for tanking you'll also probably want to get grizzlefazels shield from the bonemire quest, as its one of the best if not the best shield you can get without raiding.in raid groups when im in the "right" group my str and int often go well over 600 (cap is about 510-520, depending on base stats).'spell crit chance is definatly worth it. 68% chance to do 30% more damage from spells (thats about 70% of our overall damage).one warning though, we dont have hate reduction, DPS classes do. so its kinda dangerus to drop too much mitigation in favour of more damage, as in regular groups we can easily pull agro through DPS unless the tank has a hatebuff.hope my rambling has helped

The description of the spell crit here is wrong - in fact it's even better.

Critting a spell not only adds 30% to the damage it would have done - but if the damage is still lower than the maximum a normal roll could have gotten at that point, the damage is upped even more.

example:

Damage range 20-100.

Regular roll: 20 Adding 30%: 26 Actual Critted Damage: 100

Regular roll: 30 Adding 30%: 39 Actual Critted Damage: 100

Regular roll: 40 Adding 30%: 52 Actual Critted Damage: 100

Regular roll: 50 Adding 30%: 65 Actual Critted Damage: 100

Regular roll: 60 Adding 30%: 78 Actual Critted Damage: 100

Regular roll: 70 Adding 30%: 91 Actual Critted Damage: 100

Regular roll: 80 Adding 30%: 104 Actual Critted Damage: 104

Regular roll: 90 Adding 30%: 117 Actual Critted Damage: 117

Regular roll: 100 Adding 30%: 130 Actual Critted Damage: 130

Average Uncritted damage per hit: 60

Average Critted damage per hit: 105.9

Actual % increase: 76%

The wider the damage range on skill, the higher the actual % damage increase for critting will be on average - the example was a relatively extreme damage range. Critting will always add at LEAST 30%, and often more.

battlemage... [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn]. We're a plate class! [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] if you wanna play a wizzy play a wizzy. We're hybrids, we smash heads in and cast sickening disease spells. Prancing around in a dress and waving a wand indeed... I can't imagine rolling around that way on the pvp server, you'd get 1 hit by a ranger or wizard. But perhaps thats what we have to do to get off the bottom rung of the DPS ladder who knows. I know we need some fixing, but it'l lnever happen. All we have going for us is an easily interruptable evac, a very cool targettable FD, and HT (resisted at least partially more often than not)
