View Full Version : It is very difficult to be good at PVP as a SK....Let us cast on run!!!!!!!

<DIV>I am a SK Dreadnaught on Nagafen.  There are only 5 SK Dreadnaughts in all of PVP (all servers combined).  I state this to let you know that I have frustrations with the PVP system for the SK, not my SK.  I firmly believe that we are a compliment class.  What I mean by that is the only reason I have my title is that I run with a bunch of Great and I mean great PVPers "The Kelly Gang".  That is the only reason that I am a Dread.  Although I have a fancy title I believe that there can be one simple improvement to make our class one of the top in the game.   I love the SK.  If I had to roll a new toon I would be an SK again.  This is not a complaint thread.  I just wanted to state some opinions on how they could make our class much better without giving us anything new.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#ff0000>How I wish they would let us <FONT size=7>cast spells on the run</FONT>.  The fighter class / melee class needs to be able to move and cast to be effective.  </FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>It is very difficult to fight people one on one as an SK.  Roughly I have 1200 kills and 110 deaths so my kill to death ratio is at 9.5 or so.  The only reason it is high is that I group with a Brig.  The Brig is the best class in the game for stopping runners.....period.....  We choose our classes very carefully.  We actually researched both classes and thought it would be a great duo in both PVP and PVE.  The brig has 2 or 3 snares and 2 or 3 knockdowns.  We have one snare that we have to be in bed to cast..........its not fair.  The Sk is good one on one in a fight but the higher in level I get the harder it becomes.  Here are the two reasons on why we should be able to cast spells on the run.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>RUNNING:</DIV> <DIV>If the scout class is able to shoot range on the run then we should be able to cast spells on the run.  We can't stop anyone from running on us!!!!!!  We have no range items such as the bow / axe / hammer!!!!!  By the time you stop...set your feet.....fire your snare.....they are another county away and there is nothing you can do about it.  By the time you sprint after them and stop..............set your feet............fire another spell............yawn............they are gone.  Think if you could run and cast spells............We would be so much more effective.  SK's can fire at least 6 damage or DOT Spells from long distance (not including our pet and HT).  If scouts are able to shoot arrows we should be able to cast spells.  Take a look at the amount of dreadnaughts from the Scout classes..............There is your answer on why they have so many............They can stop runners...............They can kill runners............We can't!!!!!!!!!!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>MELEE at higher levels:</DIV> <DIV>The higher levels you get the more people move in fights.  It is very difficult to fight someone PVP one on one.  As an SK I feel that it is twice as hard as other classes since we are a melee class that needs to be standing still.......That doesn't even make sense.  We are a melee class that cant run at an opponent as they back up.  To fight someone here is what happens.....You have to look at the buttons your mashing..........Make sure you are targeting the right opponent..............look at your health and power...............make sure you are close to them...................wait.......don't move when casting that spell (you will get interupted).  My point is this.  If a scout or caster class is smart  just back up and let us have it.  I have to be looking at the toon I am fighting...chasing them....trying to hit my buttons....making sure I am not moving.....making sure I have them targeted and have not been taunted off.......making sure I am close.......making sure my spells are not getting interupted............It is very difficult.  My brig partner just runs right at them smashing buttons.  He does not get interupted.  The minute I quiver moving forward my spells get interupted.  I would love to be able to fight a scout and close distance while casting spells both ranged and melee and not having to auto attack while catching them.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Anyways it is difficult to be an SK..............although it is an easy fix!!!!!!!!!</DIV> <P>Message Edited by Ramglobal on <SPAN class=date_text>05-20-2006</SPAN> <SPAN class=time_text>07:43 PM</SPAN></P><p>Message Edited by Ramglobal on <span class=date_text>05-20-2006</span> <span class=time_text>09:48 PM</span>

I am one of those 5 dreads..and I hear ya bro..its very hard pvping with an sk...you just have to know the class very well..you should post your ideas in the top five SK thread below this one...IF enough of us yell we will be heard

that what makes a scout a scout to cast on the run, choose your class live with it,  other wise why not let conjer/necro cast on the run as well,  or even a wizzard? i made a SK , i know i couldnt solo by myself  i would be on crack if thougth that ( pvp higher level i meant) so my friend rolled a inquisitor, we are almost a very good dual, our best dual is a necro/mystic ( the evil type sorry)  she wardes me  just incase they try to kill me first if they go after her  my pet is killign them while i am doting them to the deth of the earth.

The difference is we are a melee class and the others are traditional casters.  We need to close distance in order to be effective for the most part.  Our heal procs when classes melee with us.  In order for them to hit us we need to be on top of them.  They (conj & wiz) do their damage from the outside.  Conj and Necro's pets are 2 times faster than we are, Wizards have Mez.  That AGAIN is why we should be able to cast on the run!!!!  Did I not start this off by saying I would reroll the same class again.  Stop advising people to leave the class if they have ideas that can make the class better in PVP.   I simply think we would be so much more effective if we could cast or have ranged weapons while running toward an opponent. <div></div>

we use to cast almost all our spells on the run , Soe nerfed it when PVP came to town , i dont play PVP and suffer for it in non pvp server , and soe has handed us more nerfs since ul13 and more are on the way , if our stuns and knock downs only last Half the time they use to i will never get my Lifetaps off and Shield up : (  unless they remove the casting times from them or make them UN-interuptable<p>Message Edited by Giralus on <span class=date_text>05-22-2006</span> <span class=time_text>10:40 PM</span>

Probably won’t find much sympathy on these boards. We used to have the ability to use about 4-5 spells on the run (depended on your level really) however when soe decided to go ahead and make plans for a PvP server, BAM there went our ability to cast on the run. It was deemed too overpowering in a PvP world to allow us the ability to cast on the run; yet in PvE servers it wasn’t overpowering at all. PvE SK’s are about to take a few more nerfs, because of changes relating to PvP SK’s (so much for PvP wouldn’t be affecting PvE).

      There halfing the stun times for sheild bash line and the kick line.  Its not just us though there nerfing all fighter stuns. <div></div>

Doesnt the wrath line help with runners? or resisted too much? Also isnt there a joust aa that gives a snare... would think using both of those would help with runners.Then again i dont pvp

The problem with the Wrath line is that 1.  It gets resisted a lot!!!!  Especially at higher levels. 2.  It  has a slow cast time which means that since we have to stop / set our feet to cast it.....by the time we get it off the distance gap has increased so considerably that we can't catch up again.  Plus it pulls us into combat obviously so all the speed buffs that we once had with the carpet / boots / group etc is nullified. What I will say is it is a nice spell to lead off with if you are hitting someone that does not know they are getting hit.  It does good damage & makes a loud noise <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> <div></div>

Rylight, With the name Squiggy don't you think I would be mature?  Come on, I am like your SK brother....LOL. Thanks for the response to the post.  I don't mean to sound ignorant but I don't see where you really disagree with my post though.  The major point to my post was 1.  Casting on the run...........Allowing us to be able to do damage to a fleeing opponent  2.  When closing distance in a fight allow us to not be interupted so we don't just have to auto attack.  3.  Its more difficult to be effective as an SK for (numbers sake) in PVP.  Doesn't mean you can't..........Just more difficult I feel that we are a complimentary class (yes).  I do not feel that we are a bad solo class (not in the least). It is much more difficult though.   I just feel that we are not as good as the various scout classes in terms of soloing and that we compliment the group better than we solo.   If you look at the leader boards the classes that can kill fast / stop runners / evac have the most masters and dreads.  We don't kill all that fast (HT except), we don't stop runners all that well, and our evac can be interupted by auto attack. By god the Brig / Swash / Rang / Assass boards looks like a buffett of dreads / champs. Now I am sure people will say just roll a scout.  I don't want to be a scout.  I want to be a tank / fighter.  I don't care if we have less DPS then the Brig / Ranger / Swashy have.  I just want to be able to chase someone down.  They have ranged knockdowns / stuns / leg shot etc......  Give our class some love as well. Now I duo 100% of the time.  If you see me Lenny is usually within 25 yards and vice versa. If you see one of us but not the other..........that usally is a ploy.  We do not leave each others side.  We stay alive a heck of a lot better that way.   All of my experience comes from fights that both of us are involved in.  I just feel that If I did not duo with him I would not be a dread..........and he still might be.  This is not by me losing 1 on 1 fights although it does happen.  This is by me winning one on one fights and then watching the other Q toon skip away once they reach -50% health. I am not saying we are a bad class, I love the SK very much.  Lenny and I researched hard and long for what 2 classes would be a very good compliment.  I would just like to see the SK have the ability to make someone pay for making the mistake of  fighting us.  I know if I attack a monk or a conj that I better get the jump....if not it might be a mistake.  If we could cast on the run it would defintelty be a mistake for the Q side of the house.   IT would be wonderful to either have a ranged weapon or the ability to hurt someone badly while they run.  My snare gets resisted a lot at higher levels + once I do get it off I have a considerable amount of distance to close while in combat mode.  Those are pretty high mountains to cover and overcome.  I watched Lenny kill a pally the other day while it ran from him and it was downright impressive.....because he was casting spells (his melee attacks) the entire time he was running after him.  Now can we beat the majority of classes one on one in a fight (yes).  Is it hard to stop them from running when we get them down low in health (yes).  Very hard!!!!! I will go and say that I do believe we are one of the poorer classes if not the poorest class in stopping or catching runners.   I can't think of one worse.  Some healers have mez so at least they can catch up and start the fight over again.   If they added casting on the run would that help the SK and make us better (yes)  Would it make us overpowered......I don't know.  We are a pretty darn good class now.  Would it make us one of the top 3 in the game (Probably).  Does that mean it is overpowered....I don't know about that....it may just mean that a fighter class is good and can hang with the scout classes in overall effectiveness.  Rylight.....If you are a dread and solo the majority of the time then I give you all the credit in the world.  I have seen your numbers and I am personally amazed at the number of kills.  That is an awesome accomplishment.  I personally don't think I could do that solo. Plus, I don't think I will ever try.   I love running with my new guild "The Kelly Gang".  They are unbelievable in PVP.  When I say unbelievable you really should see them tear up groups 5-6 levels above them.  Consistently!!!!!  Over and over!!!!!!  I would have to think they are one of the best PVP guilds in the game.  That is why Lenny and I left our old guild and asked to be part of them.  Lenny and I have more laughs / fun playing with them so I don't solo much at all.  I would not give that up for the world.  <div></div>

I dont PVP at all but I will be starting soon, I do think we should be able to cast on the run. Or at least do something on the run. Give us a ranged weapon or something, better yet make us be able to cast on the run only with a symbol equipped. Give some that allows us to be effective on the move. Make the last skill on the INT AA line to be able to cast on the run. Give us a spell line where we can cast on the run. There are a lot of things that can be done to make up for our lack of mobility, besides just flat out making us cast on the run. Throw us a bone or something, (if your an SK throwing the bone make sure you do not move an inch).<div></div>
