Do we ever get a decent invisibility spell? At Level 28 I just have Shadow Shroud which is useless as it roots the caster. We had an invis in EQ1 - did we lose it in this game?

I'm assuming you just came from EQ1 over to EQ2 so the short answer is yes, we lost it. You'll find a lot of posts which debate it and why we should/shouldn't have it if you search around. Shadow Shroud as well is a Dark Elf trait so it's a racial ability which isn't linked to the Shadowknight class.

They obviously understood very little about what they were doing right versus what they were doing wrong. They really wrecked the classes from their EQ1 versions. I would have preferred if they had left the EQ1 versions of the classes and their spells intact!!
There are totems you can buy to invis, totem of the chameleon i think. Works at lvl 30.

Yeah you can but totems for numerous effects to include invisibility. But I think what the real problem is the changed aspects in the series. Basically as with any other series, when you create something movie/game/sport/whatever and then in teh next installment "take away" from something, people who became fans of what you made will always be offended. Now I remember explicitly not being able to tank squat without raidgear and a healer in EQ1. To counter, I became one badass kiter before I ended up quitting, soloing crap in HoH and the like. Now I also remember what happened if I screwed up and one of those [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] things got ahold of me (dead), then oh yeah, it took an entire day of grinding to get back my death xp. It took 15 minutes to kill one mob solo like that while my skele and dot's chipped away at it's life. Then, 15 minutes sitting down recovering. Half a [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] hour for one kill, a good kill, and the only real visible movement I ever saw on the XP bar without a constant good group. What they "added" in EQ2 was the ability to never have to freaking kite again, I mean how can you brag about wearing plate armor when a mob quads you once or twice and your done right? Yeah, my armor sure helped out lol. There is a lot more that was "added" to EQ2 to help us get over the things that we eventually stopped complaining about in EQ1 because we accepted it as the norm.

Now to be honest when I think back, I really feel like my SK in EQ1 was more of an SK but I believe that that is because it's the image I adopted when I started playing, as with everyone else. When EQ2 comes along, all we see is what was "taken away", not what was added sometimes. Do I want invis back? Hate generation abilities? Leech Touch? A FD like we used to have? A constant walking DoT err pet again? [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] right I do, but in the same respect I alos greatly appreciate never having to kite....ever again, and not spending half of my total playtime recovering from fights.

I think most people are aware of the ways around things, they just want to feel like a Shadowknight again...which is something everyone remembers a slightly different version of judging by other AA discussion posts like Jousting versus a SK being a sword user. What was important to some like the good ole DMF, or Invis, or Spear line nukes, etc may not even be considered to others.

Once again I will restate, this is not EQ1.5.....I signed up to play EQ2....a sequel which I was well aware would have many differences fron EQ1. We don't need Invis, and frankly Im GLAD we dont have Invis because it would be a waste of a spell for us. It has been stated many times that there are these things called Totems of the Chameleon that cost about 1g for 5 charges of 15 min invisibility. Personally I'd rather pay a few gold a week for invis than give up one of my other spells for a permenant one. Also, pre combat revamp I used to kite all the time, and it was the most boring thing ever. Having to kite green heroic nameds was pathetic, but it was the only way because we had no real way to heal ourselves besides a few attacks that gave us 37 HP. Post-revamp is a different ballgame. I don't understand how people can say they don't feel like an SK. In my opinion, the very definition of SK is the ability to take a huge heroic Named group, say, the ones in Nest, Pestilence one of the adds, AOE like mad, and right when you are in the orange, Tap Veins, killing all the adds, filling your HP bar, and poisoning the named with Pestilence, and then kicking its [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] for metal chests. I don't think I can name one thing that DOESNT make me feel like an SK everytime I play.

What did you think was better in EQ1 for Shadowknights than EQ2? The only thing I miss is the pet, which was good solid auxillary DPS and could occasionally save your tail from a bad situation turned worse.

Maybe at lower lvls this would be pretty handy but in higher lvls too much stuff sees thru it.Id rather have the devs put the attention to another spot where its needed(AGRO!!).BTW racial invis was kinda nice till it got put back into its normal state.. glad we got a respec hehe

I agree with the pro invisibility advocates 100%.

Hell monks never got invisibility in eq1 yet they do now, its like the dev's distributed our cool abilities from eq1 and gave it to other classes, while making us a generic tank.

I feel the class has lost a great deal of its personality. I know the old tired argument that this is not EQ1, but I for one prefer some continuity in my games. The Shadowknight from EQ1 was one of the most unique and class concepts in any game i have ever played, and there was nothing else like it.

The EQ2 version is a mere shadow of its former self, and the problems with the old version of the class werent even addresed to compensate. (im not even ashamed of that pun)

(levitate, invisibility, SHADOWSTEP, a real pet, a real FEIGN DEATH, the list goes on)

Message Edited by Diernes on 05-24-2006 01:29 PM

fact of the matter is we really dont need invis anymore. we are now pure plate tanks with a FD, heals, and decent dps, there really isnt any place we cant train to or FD to

besides if I had invis in PVP I'd be more uber then I already am, and im one of the 5 or 6 dreadnaught sk's on the nagafen

would invis be nice , yes. necissity? no. besides this is EQ2 not EQ1, they made that very clear in the beggining, and im having a blast.

I still dont see it over powering for two reasons:

A. Gather Shadows was a random timer, not a set time

B. You can get a set of 15mins either for free or 2g (on my server)
