<font size="4"><font face="Arial"><font size="3">I know this question has been asked before, but which is a better solo class: a paladin or a shadow knight?  I know paladins have heals, wards, and stuns; and shadow knights have lifetaps(sorta heals) and dots; but, from what i have read by most people posted on the paladin boards is that the pally dps is MUCH lower than an sk's and it becomes very lengthy process to solo a  mob.  I may be wrong at the big drifference in dps, but i dont really want to end up at lvl 50 saying " oh god why didnt i choose the other class. "  If andyone has any constructive answers please help a new member out.  And i also know that mages/rangers solo the best, but i am interested in a melee character.  And the paladin/shadow knight is the one ive limited it down to. Thanks for any help.  And yes this is the almost the same post as on pally board.  wanted to get both sides of the fence's ideas on this. </font></font></font><div></div>

<DIV>this link might help a bit <A href="http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=9&message.id=16163" target=_blank>http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=9&message.id=16163</A></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>and yes your right, its been asked so much I dont feel like typing it all, so i summary, sk's=great solo ablity , good grouping ablity, pallies= great grouping ablitly, good solo ablity. both solo well, but sk's imo solo better. (heck we just take more time into killing, not healing)</DIV>

<div>There is a saying in EQ when people ask SK vs Paladin.</div><div> </div><div>"if you have to ask, play a Paladin"</div><div> </div><div>Sk is a quirky class and if you are not set on it from the beginning you will likely not enjoy it. there are things we are good at and things wel lack. If you dont have a love for the class though it will aggrivate you. my recommendation is try a Paladin they are solid and wanted in groups nothing wrong with them.</div>

<div></div><p>I have always wanted to play a Shadow Knight since first coming to this game last march but I rolled a Paladin because everyone went Qeynos that I knew.  Only played the game for a month or so before quitting (couldn't run the game very well at all on old system set up).</p><p>Came back last month and STILL wanted to play a Shadow Knight, but once again our friends were in Qeynos and to group with them and starting fresh on another server I wound up with a Paladin again.  Although I liked the Paladin the first time we played the game I think it was more from liking it better than the WoW Paladin.  I really liked how EQ2 did the Paladin compared to my WoW Paladin where it was pretty much auto attack and watch TV.</p><p>I couldn't stand the Paladin this time around however and I got him to 30 before making a Ranger and playing that as my main and all the while I STILL wanted to play a Shadow Knight.  So, finally I said screw it and made myself the Shadow Knight I've always wanted to play to see if I would like it.  I have no regrets that I did as I have now found my true class in this game.  It's just so much fun.</p><p>I love all of the various abilities I have gotten so far at level 30, they are just simply a lot of fun and the effects on them are pretty nifty too.  The problem I had with the Paladin was that most of the abilities I had were buffs or something like that used to protect group members.  As a SK I am noticing that I have a ton of abilities too but they are spells like life taps, buffs, AE DoTs, DoTs, DDs, and even a nifty little pet.  So many things to play with that I am always having fun playing this character.  A lot more fun than the Paladin for sure.</p><p>What it's going to come down to is which one are you truly going to want to play, not which one is better, etc.  You are not going to enjoy any class in this game or any game if that's all you play for.  IMO, both classes need to have a player that truly wants to play the class. </p><p>I don't think I ever really liked the Paladin because I wanted to be a Shadow Knight so badly.</p>

<div></div>Amusing since your in effect only a level 2 shadowknight and have barely any Shadowknight spells as yet your pretty much the same as a paladin at that level but oh well if your having fun more power to you

<div></div>SK for sure, Pally might be a little better group tank at the moment but being a Shadowknight is just awesome.  We have some of the best solo ability of any plate tank, our dmg is fairly nice, we can support tank well with our wards and grant of armor line, and well SK are cool while Paladins are pansies lol.

<span><blockquote><hr>Diernes wrote:<div></div>Amusing since your in effect only a level 2 shadowknight and have barely any Shadowknight spells as yet your pretty much the same as a paladin at that level but oh well if your having fun more power to you<hr></blockquote>I would wager 99% of what he's feeling right now is simply the excitement and anticipation of one day being an SK.  Chances are this time around he's playing even the Crusader line of spells and abilities with a completely different attitude and mindset.  I'm with you Diernes, it's very amusing considering technically nothing's different from what he has played before (save for the last two levels and, probably, what he is choosing for specialization and gear) <span>:smileywink:</span> , but it just goes to show you the power of the SK class as an idea - the same idea we were all drawn to when we first rolled our SKs.  Glad you're enjoying yourself and your 2 levels of dark knighthood.  Keep us updated on your progress  <span>:smileyhappy:</span></span><div></div>
