View Full Version : a new use for our squires

Just the other day, someone asked a question in a world chat channel about our squires. I don't recall what the initial question was, but it got me thinking about a skill that would be great to have as an SK... Squire Shield This could be a triggered skill / CA, or even better yet make the squire a permabuff to use that last concentration slot, and have a proc on Summon Squire called Squire Shield, which would proc when we are attacked. I can just imagine a great animation for the proc - me grabbing my squire with a freehand and pulling him/her in front of me and then the squire dropping like a bag of potatos after taking the blow from the mob LOL. How perfect would this be as an SK? Wouldn't you giggle every time it happened? The effect wouldn't have to be anything major or balance-changing - just a minor effect in battle and a huge effect on the feel of the class. The proc could maybe MIT a % of the melee damage intended for you, or something like that. Or maybe block melee damage from one attack by 100%, but have the proc be 1% of the time or something. Obviously the details of the proc are moot - the idea being a reason to keep our squires up, and one that would actually add to the feel of the SK (something I think we're lacking now aesthetically). Hey our photo positives the Pallys could get the same proc with a different animation & description - have it be their squire throwing themself WILLINGLY in front of the Pally, sacrificing themselves for their heroes LOL.

lol i laughed when i read this pretty creative. If it was just the animation of it i think it'd be cool but for real. Any effect where we gain something will no longer make it a fun spell. We already get a 10% run speed horse and while it sucks cause it then prevents us from using the 40% sprint to get away from things its still more than the other classes.

In case some of you didn't know.. Good use of squire is to cast evasion on it to enjoy parry boost to yourself if you solo.. I kept it up all the time cuz I can zone with it now.. I STILL see SK's soloing mobs without their squires up. Obviously they didn't know about nice parry boost. I had caculated evasion adept 1 and it gave me nice 3% boost to avoidance as long as squire with me to solo..
Message Edited by Nocifer Deathblade on 12-30-2005 08:10 AM

Squires are fluffs. Fluffs do nothing, hence the name. If Squires started to do something, people would whine and moan until all fluffs did something, and that would make them skills, defeating the purpose.

I really did have no idea about this. I just used him as comedy relief in a group or in case an rp sitch came up. Thanks for that tidbit of info ND.

I use my squire for the buff and immediately dismiss him. I see no reason to clutter my screen even further when the buff stays active even when they're gone. And hey, I'd be happy if ALL the fluff spells did something, for every class. Kick SoE in the [Removed for Content] and get them to do something interesting with the classes FFS LOL. At this point very few characters in the game have any... well... character.
