View Full Version : Open beta
Has beta been opened to the public yet? I don't see much SK stuff in the changes and it is making me nervous.

Don't be nervous, I'm actually pretty pleased with the changes I've seen

Well i am seeing an awful lot of brawler vs. guardian and paladin vs. guardian on MT stuff (which is personaly what i care about at this stage) but i don't see squat on SK. Are we in the ballpark with mitigation and avoidance?

Guardians will still be #1, but it won't be the overwhelming difference it is now. Where I see us shining is with mobs that have a stun. We have a taunt over time that will continue to tick, generating hate, while we're stunned. Our lifetaps now serve a purpose and actually give us a reasonable amount of health, we have a nice AoE taunt, and we also have a buff that is a DPS boost to our group. Soulrend actually throws mobs away from us, once successfully connected This is just a small taste. PERSONALLY, I like the changes and it looks promising. I rather ignore the fighting on the boards. Unfortunately the boards tend to pit Whine vs. Whine.

/agree I'll agree with the nice ratonga. What I've seen, and experienced, how been positive in most respects. Only down side I see is lack of HPs, however, our lifetaps are working nicely. Soulrend is sweet and the cursed caress line is wonderful for keeping agro. On a lighter note...I love watching the new pet run in and kick butt. This things comes out swinging. I liked the bird...but the bird never threw a punch like Mike Tyson on a target.

The massive disparity between Guardians and "The Rest Of Us" has been reduced remarkably. What used to amount to a couple of thousand, is now just a couple of hundred. It seems it was an overall "balance" as opposed to a nerf. Despite what some people are saying. Sure it was nifty for them to be #1, far and away, pretty much ONLY choice as far as most people were concerned... but it was pretty lame that other plate tanks were barely considered to be viable at all. Now it seems all tanks will have their place as MT at some point. Finally. I never had a problem with Guardians being number 1, and they still are.. really. However I was bothered by the idea that they were so overpowered it made them the only choice as far as most people/guilds were concerned. As an SK I had to work so much harder to prove myself worthy. All a guardian had to do was show up. It's a very nice change. If a Guardian isn't there, it's not a "raid ender" like it was for many guilds. Now.. we all have a chance

Message Edited by vTenebrae on 09-02-2005 09:38 AM

I am very happy with all the changes to our class as well. I feel we have alot more to offer in a fight and stand out even more than pallys now. It's going to take some getting used to but I love adapting with changes as long as they are good for the class as a whole.

agreed, and with that said, the only problem I ever had, much like you, is that every time I got in a group I had to PROVE myself as a MT. otherwise the whole server thinks sk's suck, and whats worse its not only because a few sk's who were in it for the horse suck and make good sk's like me look bad, but that sk's make themselves out as horrible maintanks on the forums, and if you are a horrible MT then you simply dont know how to play an Sk

also, im a minority in real life, which one is not important, the fact is that every where I go I have to PROVE myself to other ppl to show them that I actually have intellect, and I hate that I have to jump onto EQ2 and PROVE to them that I know what im doing. I come on the game to get away from real life, not to but up with more of its sterotypes

all In all though I love my race/class, it goes together perfectly. I dont know whether I play the game for the mechanics of it or the feel I get when im roleplaying my character (probably both) but anyways I make a great MT and groups that have played with me always send me a tell the day after to be there MT agian. sk's are good MT, but it sounds like after the revamp we will be great MT's so even the idiots who have no idea what they are doing wont make us look bad.

thanks for the update, I'm looking forward to the new changes to the sk

Rylight wrote:
even the idiots who have no idea what they are doing wont make us look bad.

Well, not quite. The idiots who don't know how to play, will still not know how to play and complain the revamp didn't change a thing and SK are still gimped. (I give it a week after release before we see the first "NOTHING HAS CHANGED" whine from bad SKs, then I will bump this post and giggle) The difference, this time, will be it'll actually be seen that PEBKAC* as opposed to a bad class The excuses will be gone, at that point. Taps are fixed, we have a power drain spell, our cast times are faster, and our taunts are better. The complaint that we "go through too much power" will still exist, but that's because OUR STUFF CASTS SO FAST NOW we can spam it til we're dry. If you're smart, use the power drain, and play the class well.. you won't really have power concerns any more than you do now. (It's the nature of the class, get over it. A decent SK barely even notices any more. A great SK isn't having a problem with it now.) *PEBKAC - Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chair, ie: They're doing something wrong, as opposed to game mechanics.

vTenebrae I 100% agree with you (no big surprise there though :smileywink .I would say both on live and beta I have no real issues with power consumption, even when I solo. I try not to burn through my power, cause there really is no need for me. SKs have alot going for them now more than ever. I am sure I don't know everything there is to know about the class. So far I am having alot of fun and looking to the future with bigger things in store!

Dam ok getting to cheery here, better lay of the dam coffee......

Awesome. I love it when the SK's come out with a positive shine. Too many whiners for my taste in the forums sometimes. I've played my SK and my sk only since release and have loved every bit of it. Some bumps along the way but life works the same way. The revamp is a very positive step for us. Adds much more variety and a ton of new variables that will make the game an even more challenging/fun place to be. I have to agree with previous poster/s about having to prove yourself at every turn. People I play with on a regular basis thought that SK's were by far the best most versatile class. However, when grouping with others that have 'heard' or played with so-so SK's they shunt the idea of an SK ever being anything but gimped. I don't think I have to prove myself to anyone. We're strong now and always will be. If you don't like your class...roll something else up and let the rest of us have fun.

From what I have seen in beta a lot of mobs to special damage for auto attacks (ie poison, disease etc.), what I mean by this if you are confused is where it normally says Mob hits you for 100 crushing damage, it will say Mob its you for 100 disease damgae. Since our defensive buff is +disease resist we should be best off to tank the ones that do Disease damage.

ahhh a ray of darkness in this ever brightening world, my shadow imbued blood is seething with anticipation of finally bending the dark art of lifetapping to my will. Ahhh to watch the twisting faces of my enemy as i suck there life essence out and listen to the gasps from behind me as the group of adventures i am using to further my quest lay witness to the extent of my mastery of an art so Vile even the bravest knight wimpers and looks away when i am still 50 paces off.
