All the other classes seem to have a thread just for this guy, so I figured why not. I've seen some random posts here and there on this board, but nothing solely devoted to it. Any ideas/strategies that seem to be working? I know the few times I've tried, everything has seemed to fail. I've had him down to 15 or 20% before I was OOP and dead. Any ideas, other than going full fabled? :smileymad:

I too would appreciate any strategy. 35 shadowknight here. This is what I've done.

Pulled with hex doll (slow)...then summoned pet, and cast our ward. Also added 10pnt damage shield potion. Harm touched once in range, then did limited combat, mainly using charge (to stun his casting)....and recasting my shielding. Tried once with a 2hs...and another time with a 1hs and shield combo.....both got em down to like 12%.

Any help you can provide woould be GREAT! I'm at a loss how to kill him...

Thanks all...

Message Edited by a orc pawn on 07-04-2005 01:33 AM

Message Edited by a orc pawn on 07-12-2005 12:49 PM

Heh 48 SK here, not sure what to tell you.

I fought him and was slowly winning, I had 3 bars of health when he hit two bars of health and BAM, he just stopped taking dmg. Had my pet on his back, had him debuffed and he just would not take any damage once he hit two bars of health. And on top of that his dmg on me picked up. It was like he was a Paladin and Zerker all rolled into one and went into high drive when he got low.

End result was Shard Recovery.

Looking foward to how other SKs are beating him and I hope the answer is not Fabled Gear.

It took three attempts, but I did it at level 49. When the champion came out I casted Adept III Cursed Sacrement on him and then hit him with +12 agi hex doll that slows. I then proceeded to kite him (wearing J-boots, if it makes a difference).

But it was tough! I warded while I ran around firing off dreadful wrath (using this most of all, since it slows also), baleful smite, sickening anger (all adept 1) and the agility hex doll again while the spells refreshed, and with my pet continually hitting him, but eventually our health bars were about equal and I knew I couldn't maintain the kite. So I decided to stand and fight him. I stunned and stifled with what remaining power I had using soulrend and destructive slam (adept 1), and again using dreadful, baleful, and anger while those stuns/stifles refreshed. Occasionally I slapped on a ward.

It was pretty much even, blow for blow, but he eventually got the edge on me. So I hit him with adept 1 ruinious touch to even our health and then guzzled a tier 5 health potion and power potion. Then I just went all out. Whenever I had power to cast, I used dreadful wrath or sickening anger.

It was extremely close, but he died. I had no power left and 6% health (about 252/4236 hps I think).

The only really special gear I had was a pristine imbued ebon cuirass with the healing proc and +12 str and agi hex dolls, I guess. I used lava forged falchion and shiny brass shield.

My partner who is also a level 49 SK did it on her second attempt going toe-to-toe somehow. I have no idea how she pulled that feat off, but soulrend and destructive slam were instrumental she said. She also had adept III ward, potions, imbued ebon chest and hex dolls, but only adept 1 pet.

It *can* be done! Stick with it! I hope this helps. ^_^

Lariara Lightblighter

49 Shadowknight

37 Provisioner

Lost Souls

Lucan DLere

First of all using a 1-hander + shield fares better than using a 2h wep. When The Champion came out I hit him with the effect on my +12 sta doll....takes away some of his mitigation. Next I hit him with Despoiling Mist to further take away his mitigation than threw up my pet. The rest was history. Just make sure you keep popping of HO's and stunning him every once in a while with a shield bash.

When I beat him I am left with around 1k hp's.....so I am in the red but nothing too much to worry about.

BTW, I am legendardy ebon geared with the SBS and using AGI + STA buffs from imbued rings. Hope this strategy helps....I know that I hate to have to kite around mobs....definitely prefer the toe to toe battles.

Deule 50 SK Befallen

Leader of The Underlords

50 SK here. My record is 3 (2 normal, 1 difficult) - 1 (very difficult). 3 Master Spells 7 Adept III Spells 1. I pull him with my tainted essence which reduces his punches a bit. 2. Summon my pet 3. Despoiling Mist 4. Dreadful Wrath -- If you notice, I get all my debuffs out of the way, yes I will take some dmg but it will help in the long run -- 5. Insidious Whisper Adept III, lowers DPS 6+ let the battle begin, everytime I see he is about to cast , I hit either Dreadful Wrath or Destructive Slam to stop him. I run out of mana with his life about 20 - 40% left. I usually have about 80 -95% but it drops quick because he cranks it up. I use SM and GEBS which yes does help ALOT. Along with Zalaks Shield. I usually finish the fight, without alot of SM procs with 20% life left. With alot of procs, around 50% life. The key is to moderately and consistently put out dmg as long as you can. If you just blast away with everything at first, he is going to come back and hang YOUR head in his inn room. Hope this helps. Opti

No matter which mob it is. If you're toe to toe with it, keep Cursed Caress on it at all times. It debuffs attack which can make all the difference.

And remember that you can have TWO pets on the mob. Cursed Sacrament and Tainted Sacrament.

I have done this 4 or 5 times and only beat it once. The one time I happen to beat it I was grouped with some lower lvl members of my guild and it was enough to drop the encounter a level or two. All the other times I have gotten this guy below 10% health and had around 25 to 30% health then will run out of power and he kicks my [Removed for Content]. He has some weird zerker ability that kicks in we he gets below 10%.

I'm like 6-0 with this guy, got borring after a while. Now I have some fabled and alll Adept III's and masters.

I do basicly what was said earlier, debuff him asap and put pet on him right away.

Also pull him as sooooooon as you can, dont let him sit there a sec and buff up. Use a 2 hander if you think he has a DS up, and dont forget to rune your self, if he gets a rune off I don't waist a lot of power getting thrue it I let my dot's and chicken do the work.

1 in 3 right now.

I beat him the first time and the 2nd two tries have failed all within both of us being a few % left. He really seems to get a lot tougher towards the end and starts healing and warding a lot. I have tried sword and board and 2hander and not really noticed much of a difference. Having both pets on him makes a world of difference. I think that getting him to burn up all of his power before you do is the trick. I have no fabled gear nor anything else too special. See my profile in the link below. As soon as I come up with a solid strat I will post it. There also seems to be a LOT of luck involved.

Anyone killed him around level 34? I have tried about 5 times now. I dont have the luxury of the higher level shadowknight powers. Best I did was get him down too 20% once with 1 hander and shield.

So, have ANY 35 or under SK's killed him? I'm seeing 45 + and all level 50 SK's stating they have. Although everyone says he scales to your level, but that apparenly makes NO difference in survival. You're level does. I'm a 30 SK, with all orange gear, 1H and shield. All spells and abilities Adept 1, with a few Adept III's. I picked the advanced harm touch at 30, have two hex dolls, one to decrease mob mit by 150-165 something, and the 6-10% attack debuff. 4 times I have tried the most popular strat, pull with dolls, cast pet, ward....then I spend the next 16 seconds burning all of my 1008 power TRYING to re-ward, while he pounds my 1880 hp's away in less then 20 seconds. One hit and his destroys my ward.

What gives? Is he only beat-able by us at 45+, since we have no heals? Also, although I have'nt tried it, would it be possible to, lets say, mentor someone who is 20-22, go in, drop group and have him lowered in level? Just curious. I want that [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] shard but it looks unobtainable solo. And there are NO groups playing when I get off work on my server.

does sound like we might have an issue here - it doesn't sound like the lvl 40-50s need advice on tactics (altho the helpful sugegstions are appreciated) as they can go toe-to-toe with him, and the under 40s don't need telling "but he scales with level!". that doesn't appear to be helping them win. how about some advice from someone at 30?

The rational that the mob isn't scaling and therefore only 40th+ SK can handle him is flawed simply because the bulk of abilities we're using are just upgrades to ones we got 10-15 levels back. Tactics haven't changed just the power of the spells but the mob is tougher too. To beat him, pull with pet, slow him and then just cycle ward, slam and kicks, mix with HOs +DD. You'll both be oom, the diff is you'll be on full health and he'll be on half, the rest is just brute force. I'm 45th level with nothing special, full fulginate and Adept 1/App 4.

Badmash

Runnyeye

First time I fought him was during testing - he was exceedingly easy - I believe he's gotten buffed up since then.

Killed him recently in his more powerful form. Hexed him to start, kept cursed touch and pet on him, and kept myself warded. Closed off with my HT (whichever version I have now), and outlasted him with perhaps 5% health left. It was very close, and I got lucky. I was in fulginate with imbued chest and legs, crafted T5 jewelry, and a SBH at the time (Was a level or two ago). Also had a rare T5 hex doll of ruin (The only rare bit of equipment on me, so it's definitely doable without required fabled and master loot.

Skills were a mix of Adept Is, App IVs, and App IIs (It's hard to get skill upgrades on Test) Most of my key ones were at least App IV.

It took me a couple of tries and then I realized I wasn't casting my ward. I killed him twice easily after that. First thing I did was pull with my pet hit him at range with Dreadful Wrath as he approaches, and then cast my ward. I was pumped up on potion both times (increases to STA, STR, and AGI + Magic Mit) and this guy went down with me still holding like 60-65% HP. Just make sure you keep Stunning and disrupting while your pet nips at him and he should go down pretty fast. Also, get Adept III for your ward as it Mitigates over 700HP damage and doesn't cost a whole lot of mana.

He is a Shaman, either a Defilier or a Mystic. That means he is going to ward himself and dot you. Stuns and interrupts are crucial. That's why its better to tank him with a 1hand, shield and defensive buff then to kite him.

The biggest issue is going out of power. So don't. Some of our spells are more power costly then others (ex. coil line). So don't use them. Chain HOs closing with level 3 taunt. You are getting a great HO attack for about 8 power. You can eat +max power food too. I didn't think to pull with the doll, but its a great idea since its power-free.

At the end I had more than 1/3 of mana.

Yesterday I beat him in difficult level. It was much harder but it is doable with little luck. I used potions on mellee mitigation, disease potion, boost for str and sta. I have started with Royal Great Flail and I have beat him to ornage life. Than I was OOM so I started to use Screaming+SBS.

Well I tried again and even waited to level mid event so at 24 with all adept 1s and pristine/etc gear with the champ only being +1 i still lost with the champ going out of power and having 15% life left.

Kind of sad since my necro can do the hard champ without any problems.

Using that is more or less exploiting and even so it would only work for people over level 40.

I beat the champ today and got my port shard! Whee!

Level 33 sk, I have Infernal Pact at Master 1, I have imbued Oak kite shield, the rest of my gear is feyiron vanguard/nothing special. Buffed up with the clicky agi buff from imbued ring and stacked every potion that I could make for this tier as a 33 alchemist. +sta/str, +agi, +int/wis, +hp, +ac and +to all saves. Brought along, and used, a power regen potion and medium heal potion.

I waited for champ at the bottom of the pit where he comes out and popped the pet on him right away and warded myself and began the beatings. Used heal and pwr regen potions (1 min reuse on them). I was in the orange and he was only half dead so I ran out and tried kiting him for a bit to let the pet get in some free hits, but that didn't work too well. He just ate the ward without me doing any damage to him (he wasn't snared though) so I just tanked him the rest of the way down.

Finished the fight with 40 hp and 44 pwr and probably used up all my luck for the year.

I did normal again (still 20th SK) over the weekend and it was a lot harder this time. The first time, he didn't really act like a caster and I wasn't getting hit with spells that often. This last time, though, he was hitting me with a lot of Shaman/Defiler spells and if it wasn't for my Harm Touch landing I would have went down.

Finally killed him tonight (granted it was on the easiest level). Went through the primlary rounds easy enough. Then made sure all my buffs where up and used a str/sta potion, a agi potion, and a hp potion. Put a damage shield potion in a slot and a mana regen. Then did the hail, sent pet at him and DIDn't cast anything on him.

Let him basicly take the pet down to 30pct (only damage I took was from AOE's) then cast DS potion quickily switched it out with heal potion ran in and started hiting him. Pet died at that time due to AOE's. Recast pet and used ward till his power was down to about 10 pct using heal potion when ever i could. Then hit mana regen potion and went pure dps at that point. when he was at around 10pct I cast HT on his butt and finished him. I actually had like 40 pct health still left.

Boars head looks cool, earring was really nothing special (got fishbone, so trying to sell) and got the sroom pet.

Tommorrow think I will try harder levels and see if same tactic works. Oh all my gear is TS armor except for orb of necklace and fishbone earring (both legendary). Weapon was Raolsion steel (nice sword, and was realitivly cheap) and shield was a Ebon kite shield (Shield factor 519 at my level)

V/R

Blackoath 41st Troll Shadow Knight

Message Edited by Margen on 07-26-2005 09:45 PM

as a 30/31 SK I have still to beat him, 0-2 so far.

However from readin this thread, sounds like Poison/Disease/Divine resists may be very usefull here if he's a Defiler/Mystic as people say.

He's not all that hard as a lvl 50, two stuns and one interrupt keeps him in check the whole fight. he didnt get one spell off on me (on very difficult)... screaming mace is nice too... Diease/cold/crush resistances help durring this battle but if you do it right he wont get many if any spells off.

Just beat him for the first time, was my fourth try. The first time I just went toe to toe with him, got him down to about 10% before he killed me. The second time I used tainted sacrament got him with ht, and cycled spiked boot, dreadful wrath, and ho ending it with zarns plague cloud. Was close but he used his last bit of power to dot me and finished me off, he had about 5% left. Third time I bought some power and health potions, didn't kick, or use pet, just dw and ho's, he stomped me. On try number 4 I got new pet halfway through trials, made a big difference. Opened up with cursed sacrament, malefic touch, dreadful wrath, spiked boot, used my two potions, tainted sacrament then just cycled spiked boot, dreadful wrath, and ho's.

I had about 20% health and 40% power left when he went down.

I got cursed sacrament halfway through my last trial it helped, but dont think it affected the outcome. Think the keys are, using pets, harm touch, and stunning/interrupting him as much as you can.

oh yeah, lvl 40 sk here by the way.

Sorry for double post, thought I accidentally deleted the first one, didn't realise it posted

Message Edited by Soupnuts on 08-13-2005 06:58 AM

Message Edited by Soupnuts on 08-13-2005 07:00 AM
