I am thinking about roleplaying an erudite SK or Pally. Can they function good enough as a second tank in end game? Can their power pool be useful? I have always played erudites and want to make a magic/melee hybrid. Don't mind working hard at the beginning if stats become less of an issue in end game.

Unlike EQ1 Power for sk is 75% from STR and 25% from wis, so erudite = no.

Dont listen to that guy...

This game is incredibly balanced, any race can play any class effectively well. Only two things contribute to whether you can do what you want to do in this game, your gear and your talent to play the class. Gear generally becomes the great equalizer for all races as starting stats pretty much become pbsolete after so long. The main reason you would choose a particular race would be for their traditions learned at levels 18, 26, 34, 42 etc... these are where most of your tailoring comes in and yet still have little bearing on what you end up as in the end.

In short: A gnome, halfling, erudite, or wood elf shadowknight is just as good as a barbarian, ogre, troll, or froglok shadowknight.

I would say that you should check what types of racial traits erudites have. If you are planning to do some serious tanking at lvl 50+ you should really pick a race that has the +5 passive defense buff, for example Ogres, Humans and Barbarians (there are others as well). I don't think that erudites get that racial trait, so i would not recommend erudites. If you plan to only tank lesser mobs, or just help with offtanking/buffing MT, then erudite will probably be as good as any other race for the SK.

Can't believe yall didn't give Iksar Shadowknight's cred as examples There are way more Iksar SK than Froglok ones.... But I think an Erudite Shadowknight would be cool.... you could pull it off.... I mean I wouldn't really worry bout how the stats are at first or what traditions you get... Play him for fun.

As it has been stated many times before, any race can play any class with the same level of success.

It also depends on the situation. We fought Agelidaes the other day. We used a 3 group setup (two main tanks in one group, two off tanks in another group, and all the healers in the third). Well, me and the Paladin that were in the main tank group (he was 50, mentored down to me at 4 were the only ones to get hit with the spider's AoE. Considering my 2300 poison resist was over double what the Paladin had, the three defilers and a mystic had a hell of a time keeping the Paladin alive when the AoE hit while I resisted all but once in a 10 minute fight.

I've been MA and off tank for many raids. I've out and out tanked other epic mobs. I held my own just fine, thanks. I'm a *RAT*. If I can do it, being smaller and weaker than even an Erudite.. I think you'll be fine. Don't listen to the naysayers.

Funny thing is a Eurdite is considered "weird" for Shadow Knight, but how many Dark Elf Shadow Knights do you see running around, and their stats are basicly the same. Play what you want, and have fun. I always get a kick when people play the off race/class combos (ratonga warriors, dwarf mages etc.). It show that they have some orginality (granted I am Troll Shadow Knight, but didnt pick him for his stats, just wanted to be REALLY REALLY UGLY LOL).

You might have a bit of a hard time at first, but once you start getting better gear and learning your class you should do ok and have some fun.

Good Luck with you Shadow Knight

Blackoath 37th Troll Shadow Knight
