Hi All.... I spent a good chunk of time playing an SK in EQ1. I'm wondering what the EQ2 SK is like.... I'm not entirely sure if I want an SK this time around, or not. In EQ1, where we didn't have an alignment system at all, my SK was played as the "anti-hero" type - not "evil", but a knight that would use whatever it took to win, preferrably using the enemies own strengths (ie, all the "taps"). I like playing puller or main tank (both is not that great). I typically would split up spawn (no FD in EQ2, though), and would hold aggro better than anyone else in the group(s). DPS was pretty weak, though, for the EQ1 SK - unless you had a high level clarity type spell on you and could afford to burn manna helping out with DOTs. EQ1 shadowknights had a fair bit of utility in their spell lists - does the EQ2 SK get that also ? (looked through the lists - doesn't look like they do). I enjoyed the utility immensely - doesn't look like any of the casting melees get any utility, though. For EQ2, I'm not sure if I want a Shadowknight, or a Berserker. Monk/Bruiser type doesn't suit me. Neither does the "pure plate meat sheild". The SK looks interesting, but the berserker looks like they could play either a tank or DPS role. Also, the EQ2 shadowknight looks much more... evil.... than the EQ1 shadowknight (which could pass off as a knight with a code of armour that plays hardball). Anyone have any insights ? Thanks in advance !

Having played a Shadow Knight in EverQuest for almost five years I'm sorely disappointed by the lack of utility spells this time around.

We no longer have the ability to cast invisibility, or invisibility versus undead, nor can we cast levitate (i.e., Bobbibg Corpse, which gave us levitate, enduring breath and poison resist), nor do we have an adequate feign death spell (it wears off and you stand up after a minute, or so, and it doesn't always work), nor do we have any substantial lifetaps or a pet that lasts beyond one fight or three minutes. We can neither snare or fear mobs, negating the old fear and aggro kiting methods of killing.

If you like evil-sounding names, such as Decrepit Slam and Even More Decript Slam, then you'll find that we are very evil indeed, but beyond that, it's purely aesthetic.

You're going to have to come to this game with ZERO expectations of this Shadowknight resembling the Shadow Knight of old. If you do that, as I did, then you might find yourself enjoying the class.

By comparison, we're just another shade of grey.

I really dont think its fair to compare the 2 to be honest. The SK now is a mere shadow, et al a distant memory to what they once were. Realistically, besides having a lifetap and harmtouch, theres not a whole lot linking EQ1 and EQ2 SKs...sadly.

Bah, I have to agree with all of the above, even our life taps are watered down hard and HT is resisted ton.

Haruchai

Admit I didn't play a SK in eq1, played a pally there. But from what I saw from my SK friends in EQ1, we don't have nearly the utility now. And totally agree on HT, a 30min gimped damgage spell that can be resisted .... that is just not right, also for pete's sake, change the timer on Rescue ... 30mins is stupid and it doesn't regrab aggro half the time.

V/R

Blackoath 29th Troll Shadow Knight
